Phosphorus-Nitrogen Compounds as Complex Ligands

Abstract

Amino(imino)phosphanes(σ²-phosphazenes) of the type N[sbnd]P[dbnd]N- are useful complex ligands.     

Branching fractions and CP asymmetries in B0-->K+ K- K0 S and B+-->K+ K0 S K0 S

We measure the branching fractions and CP asymmetries in the decays B0-->K(+)K(-)K(0)(S) and B+-->K(+)K(0)(S)K(0)(S) using a sample of approximately 122x10(6) BB pairs collected by the BABAR detector. From a time-dependent analysis of the K(+)K(-)K(0)(S) sample that excludes phiK(0)(S), the values of the CP-violation parameters are S=-0.56+/-0.25+/-0.04 and C=-0.10+/-0.19+/-0.10, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. We confirm that the final state is nearly purely CP even and extract the standard model parameter sin(2beta=0.57+/-0.26+/-0.04(+0.17)(-0) where the last error is due to uncertainty on the CP content. We present the first measurement of the CP-violating charge asymmetry A(CP)(B+-->K(+)K(0)(S)K(0)(S))=-0.04+/-0.11+/-0.02. The branching fractions are B(B0-->K+K-K0)=(23.8+/-2.0+/-1.6)x10(-6) and B(B+-->K(+)K(0)(S)K(0)(S))=(10.7+/-1.2+/-1.0)x10(-6).     

Measurements of CP-violating asymmetries in the decay B0-->K+K-K0

We analyze the decay B0-->K+K-K0 using 383 x 10(6) BB events collected by the BABAR detector at SLAC to extract CP violation parameter values over the Dalitz plot. Combining all K+K-K0 events, we find ACP=-0.015+/-0.077+/-0.053 and beta eff = 0.352+/-0.076+/-0.026 rad, corresponding to a CP violation significance of 4.8 sigma. A second solution near pi/2-beta eff is disfavored with a significance of 4.5 sigma. We also report ACP and beta eff separately for decays to phi(1020)K0, f0(980)K0, and K+K-K0 with mK+K- > 1.1 GeV/c2.     

Evidence for a reverse U-shaped conformation of single-chain bolaamphiphiles at the air-water interface

Infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy and X-ray reflectivity have been used to elucidate the molecular orientation and hydrocarbon chain conformation and packing of the symmetric long-chain bolaamphiphiles dotriacontane-1,1'-diyl-bis-[2-(trimethylammonio)ethylphosphate] (PC-C32-PC) and dotriacontane-1,1'-diyl-bis-[2-(dimethylammonio)ethylphosphate] (Me2PE-C32-Me2PE) at the air-water interface. At low surface pressures, these bipolar amphiphiles are found to lie flat on the water surface with a disordered chain. With increasing surface pressure, the alkyl chain becomes more ordered. Concomitantly, the chain is bent pointing into the air, whereas both polar headgroups keep contact with the water subphase. At an area of 0.9-1.1 nm2 per molecule, a surface pressure plateau is reached for both bolaamphiphiles, where the molecules adopt a reverse U-shaped conformation with a strongly tilted alkyl chain. Further compression leads to the formation of 3-D aggregates.     

Search for lepton flavor violating decays tau(+/-) --> l(+/-)pi0, l(+/-)eta, l(+/-)eta'

A search for lepton flavor violating decays of the tau lepton to a lighter mass lepton and a pseudoscalar meson has been performed using 339 fb;{-1} of e;{+}e;{-} annihilation data collected at a center-of-mass energy near 10.58 GeV by the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II storage ring. No evidence of a signal has been found, and upper limits on the branching fractions are set at the 10;{-7} level.
