Time-resolved electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), fluorescence, and phosphorescence spectra have been observed for the excited states oftrans-p-methylcinnamic acid (p-MeCA) andtrans-p-methylcinnamate anion (p-MeCA?) in rigid organic glasses at 77 K. With a stretched-polymer-film technique, we assigned the resonance fields in the time-resolved EPR spectra of the lowest excited triplet (T1) states ofp-MeCA andp-MeCA?. From the analysis of these spectra we concluded that the deviation from planar structure in the T1 state is small inp-MeCA andp-MeCA? and the direction of C=O iss-cis to the ethylenic C=C bond inp-MeCA. The deprotonation appears to have little effect on the zero-field splitting (ZFS) parameters. The ZFS parameters were calculated theoretically using semiempirical molecular orbitals. The sublevel preferentially populated by intersystem crossing (ISC) is T y in bothp-MeCA andp-MeCA?. However, following the deprotonation ofp-MeCA, (P y?P z)/(P x?P z) changes from 5.7 inp-MeCA to 2.1 inp-MeCA? (P i are relative populating rates; thex andy axes are close to the long and short in-plane molecular axes, respectively, andz-axis is perpendicular to the molecular plane). The fluorescence lifetimes indicate that the deprotonation has little effect on the sum of the three ISC rate constants for the three T1 sublevels. We present the results of electron generation experiments conducted at the Advanced Photon Research Center, Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute, using 23-fs relativistically intense 20-TW tightly focused laser pulses with underdense plasma. We observed electron energies up to 40 MeV characterized by a two-temperature Maxwell distribution. With the help of particle-in-cell simulations, we found that these are due to different plasma wave-breaking processes. A charge of 5 nC/shot was obtained at a small solid angle, which corresponds to high peak current generation. 相似文献

The experimental apparatus for investigating the gas-surface interaction has
been newly developed. The coherent length of the helium, the energy
resolution and the angular spread of the beam in the apparatus were
established as ω= 16 nm,
DE/E = 2.4%\Delta E/E = 2.4{\%}
and Δθ= 0.5○, respectively, through the
measurements of the time-of-flight of He beam and of the angular intensity
distributions of He scattered from LiF(001). The angular intensity
distributions of Ar, N2 and CO scattered from the LiF(001) surface
along the [100] azimuthal direction were then measured as a function of
incident translational energy. The effects of the molecular structural
anisotropy and center-of-mass position on the gas-surface inelastic
collision at the corrugated surface are discussed with predictions based on
a recently developed simple classical theory of the ellipsoid-washboard

Flow of a spontaneously formed optical pattern in a nonlinear optical feedback system consisting of a liquid crystal optically addressable spatial light modulator with feedback is induced by a lateral wave-front shift of the feedback light. We demonstrate the dependency of the flow speed on the wave-front shift by tilting an optical flat inserted in the feedback loop. In recent studies of inclusiveB decays, it has been suggested that eitherB mesons decay much more copiously to final states with no open charm than currently assumed, orB(D 0 → K?π+) has to be reduced significantly. This note takes the experimentalB(D 0 → K?π+) at its face value and estimatesB(b → no open charm) using complementary methods: one accounts for thec quark inb → c transitions, the other accounts for the c quark inb → ccs transitions. Through cancellation of errors, the average gives our best estimate ofB(b → no open charm), and the difference measures the consistency. The results of the methods are consistent with each other, strongly suggesting a much enhancedB(b → no open charm). This observation indicates that non-perturbative QCD effects are probably causing a sizable fraction of theb → ccs transitions to be seen as charmlessb → s processes, contrary to smaller traditional expectations. This mechanism has generally been overlooked and may explain the existing experimental data within the framework of the standard model. We then briefly discuss implications on baryon production governed byb → ccs processes, rare hadronicB decays and CP violation studies. 相似文献

1H-NMR and 2H-NMR spectra of water (H2O and D2O) absorbed in Visking cellulose tubing have been observed as a function of the angle Θ between the film surface and the magnetic field. 1H-NMR spectra show broad lines, and the chemical shift and the linewidth depend on Θ. From the angular dependence of the chemical shift, the anisotropic volume diamagnetic susceptibilities of the film are determined, i.e., χ∥ in the direction longitudinal to the tubing (stretched direction) is 0.43 ppm, and χ⊥ in the transverse direction is 0.57 ppm. The different values of χ∥ and χ⊥ afford an evidence of the anisotropy of the film. 2H-NMR spectra of D2O absorbed in the film show quadrupole splitting which also depends on Θ. The angular dependences of the linewidth (1H-NMR) and the quadrupole splitting (2H-NMR) indicate that the H? H axes of the water molecules have a tendency to orient in the direction longitudinal to the film surface. 相似文献

A sensitive and variable-wavelength optical rotatory (OR) detector for high-performance liquid chromatography is presented. This design is entirely different from that of conventional OR detectors consisting of a crossed polarizer pair. By placing a polarizing prism and a retardation plate into a commercial circular dichroism (CD) detector, the OR signal was obtained. The Mueller matrix approach was used to prove the principle of the OR signal appearance. Sugars and 4-androstene-3,17-dione were chosen as test compounds. The limit of detection was below 0.5 microg of injected sucrose at 260 nm, which was superior to that obtained with a conventional OR detector. For 4-androstene-3,17-dione, which is CD active, and shows a large anomalous OR dispersion curve, our detector gave a large OR signal with approximately half the intensity of the CD signal at 340 nm. 相似文献
