Cyclophane‐Type Chlorin Dimers from Dynamic Covalent Chemistry of 2,18‐Porphyrinyl Dicyanomethyl Diradicals

2,18‐Bis(dicyanomethyl)‐substituted Ni^II porphyrin 8 and Zn^II porphyrin 11 were prepared and subjected to oxidation with PbO₂ in CH₂Cl₂ at 298 K to give cyclophane‐type chlorin dimers ( 9 )₂ and ( 12 )₂ as a consequence of double recombination of biradicals 9 and 12 , respectively. Dimer ( 9 )₂ takes a syn‐conformation of two distorted Ni^II chlorins but ( 12 )₂ takes an anti‐conformation of relatively planar Zn^II chlorins. At 298 K, dimer ( 9 )₂ is stable and its ¹H NMR spectrum is sharp but becomes broad at high temperature, while the ¹H NMR spectrum of ( 12 )₂ is considerably broad even at 298 K but becomes sharper at low temperature. These results indicate that the chlorin dimers dissociate to radical species, but the activation barrier of the dissociation of ( 12 )₂ is much less than that of ( 9 )₂. The involvement of diradicals in dynamic covalent chemistry has been suggested by thermal scrambling of hetero dimer ( 16 )₂ to give homo dimers ( 9 )₂ and ( 15 )₂.     

Rhodium-Catalyzed ortho-Olefination of Sterically Demanding Benzamides: Application to the Asymmetric Synthesis of Axially Chiral Benzamides

It has been established that an unsubstituted cyclopentadienyl rhodium(III) (CpRh^III) complex is a highly active catalyst for the aerobic oxidative ortho C−H bond olefination of sterically demanding ortho-substituted benzamides with alkenes. This catalysis was successfully applied to the diastereoselective synthesis of axially chiral N,N-dialkylbenzamides. The combination of the ruthenium(II)-catalyzed enantioselective hydrogenation and the CpRh^III-catalyzed diastereoselective ortho C−H bond olefination enabled the asymmetric synthesis of axially chiral N,N-dialkylbenzamide derivatives with high ee values.     

Colorimetric Determination Of Hydrogen Peroxide Based on Localized Surface Plasmon Resonance of Silver Nanoprisms Using a Microchannel Chip

Silver nanoprisms (AgNPrs) have unique optical phenomena due to their localized surface plasmon resonance that results in the extinction of light from the visible to the near-infrared spectral region. In this study, we propose the colorimetric determination of silver nanoprisms in microchannels using a smartphone camera. Image acquisition was performed by capturing an image of the colloidal solution of the silver nanoprisms in the microchannel using the transmitted light. Red, green, and blue chromaticity levels were extracted from the recorded images for further quantification of the silver nanoprisms. This technique was employed for the detection and colorimetric determination of hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂). Good linearity between the change in the green chromaticity level and concentration of hydrogen peroxide was observed for values from 10 to 300?μM with an R² value of 0.9670. We anticipate that the developed methodology for the quantification of silver nanoprisms and hydrogen peroxide by monitoring the change in color in the images of transmitted light will enhance the development of simple, rapid, and reliable detection systems for quality control in the production of silver nanoprisms as well as in chemical sensor applications.

Regioselectivity in intramolecular addition of allylsilanes to conjugated dienones

The intramolecular addition of allylsilanes to conjugated dienones shows a divergence of regioselectivity as a function of reagent and substrate structure. The creation of 5-5, 6-5, 5-7, and 6-7 bicyclic ring systems is reported.

Coefficients of half-integral weight modular forms

In this paper, we study the distribution of the coefficients a(n) of half-integral weight modular forms modulo odd integers M. As a consequence, we obtain improvements of indivisibility results for the central critical values of quadratic twists of L-functions associated with integral weight newforms established in Ono and Skinner (Fourier coefficients of half-integral weight modular forms modulo ?, Ann. of Math. 147 (1998) 453-470). Moreover, we find a simple criterion for proving cases of Newman's conjecture for the partition function.
