A multigrid method for predicting periodically fully developed flow

The use of multigrid methods in complex fluid flow problems is still under development. In this paper a full multigrid procedure has been incorporated in a finite volume solution for predicting fully developed fluid flow in a streamwise periodic geometry. Steady computations in two-dimensional body fitted co-ordinates have shown considerable savings in computation time by this multigrid method.     

X-ray fluorescent and EXAFS studies of the electronic and spatial structure of dialkyl sulfides and their PdCl2 complexes in extraction systems

SK_α, SK_β, ClK_β, ClK_β, and PdL_β2 X-ray fluorescent and PdK EXAFS spectra were obtained for some organic solutions of dialkyl sulfide complexes with palladium chloride. Solvent effects on the electronic and spatial structure of complexes in solution are discussed. In the benzene solution of [PdCl₂2(C₆H₁₃)₂S], complex molecules interact with solvent molecules along a coordinate that is perpendicular to the plane of the complex molecule. Raman spectroscopy of carbon fibres

Investigations of coated carbon fibres are reported using Raman spectroscopy. Relationships between different process parameters (for example precursor concentration, reactor temperature and various precursors) and the resulting types of carbon fibres are discussed.     

Photoinduced electron transfer variables: rigidity or orientation?

The relatives photoreactives of bridged-ring systems 1, 3, 5-X and 6-X (X ≡ Cl or Br) have been studied at 254 nm in acetic acid. The formation of photosolvolysis product was rationalized in terms of photoinduced intramolecular electron transfer (ET) processes. The relative ease of ET in these donor—bridge—acceptor model system was analyzed in terms of known ET variables including free-energy changes, orientation effects and ridigity effects. The observed relative photoreactivities agreed better with the calculated free-energy changes when relative rigidities of the electron acceptor termini were evaluated. In general, the more rigid system were more photoreactive.     

Synthesis of perfluoroheptanal by ozonolysis of perfluoro-1-octene

Reaction of pentafluorobenzoylpyruvic acid with amines

Reactions of pentafluorobenzoylpyruvic acid with amines afford the respective enamines. The intramolecular cyclization of the latter results inN-substituted 4-quinolone-2-carboxylic acids. Reactions ofO-methyl tetramethyldiamidophosphite with halo- and thiocyanoalcohols

The reaction of O-methyl tetramethyldiamidophosphite with 3-bromopropanol or 3-bromo-2-butanol occurs with the liberation of dimethylamine and results in mixed phosphites. The reaction of O-methyl tetramethyldiamidophosphite with 3-thiocyano-2-butanol proceeds with the participation of the sulfur atom of the thiocyano group and formation ofS-(3-hydroxybutyl) tetramethyldiamidothiophosphate.Translated fromIzvestiya Akademii Nauk. Reactions of mercury salts with benzo- and tetrafluorobenzobarrelenes

Regiochemistry and stereochemistry of the addition of mercury salts to benzobarrelene and tetrafluorobenzobarrelene have been studied in acetic acid and methanol.
