Real-time surface shape measurement by an active interferometer

We have succeeded in video rate analysis of fringes stabilized by an active interferometer placed outside optical benches. The interferometer uses the closed loop control of injection current of a laser diode to compensate for fringe movement that is detected by a spatial filtering detector. A video image of the locked fringes with tilt is supplied to the real-time fringe analyzer that delivers unwrapped phase distribution from the three phase shifted fringes generated by the electronic moiré method. For a concave mirror of 130 mm diameter placed on a wooden desk we observed the repeatability of λ/60 for P-V surface error of λ/5.     

Helicity induction on a poly(phenylacetylene) bearing a phosphonate residue by chiral dendrons

A series of optically active dendrons with a primary amino group at the terminal were prepared from L - or D -glutamic acid, and their helicity induction abilities for a poly(phenylacetylene) bearing a phosphonate pendant were characterized with ultraviolet–visible and circular dichroism spectroscopy. The magnitude of the Cotton effects of the polymer induced by the dendrons significantly increased upon complexation with a higher generation dendron. A method for prediction of listening score and psychological impression in an actual noise environment

The authors discuss a method for estimating and/or predicting the listening score and two psychological impressions of speech audibility and annoyance, when listening to audio signals, in an actual noise environment. The method introduced the instantaneous spectral distance that reflects the relationship between the spectral level of the speech peaks and that of noise within a short time scale. The validity and the applicability of the proposed method were confirmed experimentally, and reasonable results were obtained. Specifically, it is necessary to predict a psychological impression of the noise as a whole over a long period of time, after a certain amount of exposure to noise, taking the period of higher sound pressure level of the noise into consideration.     

Functors of log Artin rings

This paper gives a generalization of the theory of functors of Artin rings in the framework of log geometry. In the final section we apply it to the log smooth deformation theory. Received: 4 August 1997 / Revised version: 13 January 1998
