The pomeron-particle total cross section and diffractive production of showers at very high energies
The experimental data of ISR and NAL for the process pp → pX are used for the determination of the pomeron-particle total cross section and the triple-pomeron vertex. Estimates of the cross sections of the diffractive production of one and several showers of particles are given. It is shown that at s ~ 103 GeV2 the cross section of all inelastic diffractive processes is ~ 6 mb and grows with energy. Nuclear effects in J/ψ hadro-and electroproduction on nuclei are considered in the framework of the reggeon approach. A generalization of the quark-gluon string model to the case of bosonic resonances production in hadron-hadron collisions is proposed. In the framework of our approach, the properties of the fragmentation functions of quarks and diquarks are determined on the basis of the reggeon-photon analogy. As a result, we obtain a simple relation which determines the dependence of the production cross sections on the spinJ of observed resonances. It is shown that the theoretical predictions are confirmed experimentally with a good accuracy in both inclusive and binary processes.
