Measurements have been taken on a glass trennschaukel of eight tubes for the Ar-He system as a function of composition and with its hot and cold bulbs at 100°c and 0°c. For each mixture, several speeds for the mechanical push-pull motion of the gas which cover a wide enough range were tried. The results have been interpreted to determine the thermal diffusion factor α T, in conventional fashion as well as on the basis of a theory characterizing the low speed operation, developed here. Four such different possibilities of α t evaluation are discussed and values compared with the traditional ones obtained from the convection-free two-bulb apparatus. Lastly we discuss also in brief the prospect of estimating the diffusion coefficient as an important byproduct from measurements on trennschaukel runs.  相似文献

Finite-temperature behaviour of a hollow golden cage (HGC) plays a crucialrole in its potential applications as a catalyst, drug delivery agent, contrasting agent and so on. This physico-chemical property of HGCs is not well understood so far. In that context, Born–Oppenheimer molecular dynamics (BOMD) simulations are performed on a well-known ‘free-standing’ HGC. The cluster considered in this study is the ground state Au18 cluster (a cage with a diameter of about >5.5 Å). The results thus obtained are compared with the BOMD simulation results reported earlier on Au32 icosahedron cage, a conformation with a diameter of nearly. The sphericity of both the clusters is studied using a shape deformation parameter as a function of time and temperature. These results are supplemented by radial distribution function at various temperatures. The observations and analysis of results indicate that, both the clusters retain an HGC conformation from 300 to 400 K, admitting structural fluxionality by the Au18 cluster. Remarkably, the Au18 cluster is able to maintain its hollowness and sphericity up to a high temperature of 1000 K. Underlying structural and electronic properties influencing the individualistic behaviour of cages are highlighted. Composition of the frontier molecular orbitals and the charge distribution play a crucial role in the finite-temperature behaviour of the Au cages. The conclusions are supplemented by supporting calculations on another degenerate ground state Au18 hollow cage and a well-known pyramidal Au18 cage at 300 and 400 K.  相似文献

For the first time, bamboo-shaped multiwalled carbon nanotubes, having diameter of the order of 50 nm, have been grown on carbon black in a fluidized bed in bulk amount. The activation energy for the synthesis of the product was found out to be around 33 kJ/mol in the temperature range of 700−900 °C. The carbon nanotubes were separated from the carbon black by preferential oxidation of the later, the temperature of which was determined by thermogravimetry. The transmission electron microscopy revealed different features of the nanotubes such as “Y” junction, bend, and catalyst filling inside the nanotubes. Small angle neutron scattering was performed on the nanotubes synthesized at different temperatures. The data were fitted into a suitable model in order to find out the average diameter, which decreases with increase in synthesis temperature. The Monte Carlo simulation predicts the same behavior. Based on the above observations, a possible growth mechanism has been predicted. The oscillation in carbon saturation value inside the catalyst in the fluidized bed has been indicated as the responsible factor for the bamboo-shaped structure.  相似文献

Three rotational bands in 74Kr were studied up to (in one case one transition short of) the maximum spin I(max) of their respective single-particle configurations. Their lifetimes have been determined using the Doppler-shift attenuation method. The deduced transition quadrupole moments reveal a modest decrease, but far from a complete loss of collectivity at the maximum spin I(max). This feature, together with the results of mean field calculations, indicates that the observed bands do not terminate at I = I(max).  相似文献

The interference fragmentation function translates the fragmentation of a quark with a transverse projection of the spin into an azimuthal asymmetry of two final-state hadrons. In e(+)e(-) annihilation the product of two interference fragmentation functions is measured. We report nonzero asymmetries for pairs of charge-ordered π(+)π(-) pairs, which indicate a significant interference fragmentation function in this channel. The results are obtained from a 672 fb(-1) data sample that contains 711 × 10(6) π(+)π(-) pairs and was collected at and near the Υ(4S) resonance, with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider.  相似文献

Temporal integration of loudness of 1 kHz tones with 5 and 200 ms durations was assessed in four subjects using two loudness measurement procedures: categorical loudness scaling (CLS) and loudness matching. CLS provides a reliable and efficient procedure for collecting data on the temporal integration of loudness and previously reported nonmonotonic behavior observed at mid-sound pressure level levels is replicated with this procedure. Stimuli that are assigned to the same category are effectively matched in loudness, allowing the measurement of temporal integration with CLS without curve-fitting, interpolation, or assumptions concerning the form of the loudness growth function.  相似文献

We report a method for the measurement of nematic liquid crystal (NLC) cell parameters i.e., switching voltage, birefringence, retardation, dielectric anisotropy, average tilt angle and change in refractive index with applied DC voltage to LC material. The proposed method is based on optical interferometry and Fourier transform fringe analysis technique, in which we obtain 2-dimensional (2D) phase map of the interferograms as a function of applied voltage. Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) was used for the study of cell parameters and interferograms were recorded at different applied DC voltages to NLC cell using CCD camera. From the phase map, 2D-refractive index distribution of the LC cell with applied voltage was reconstructed. Analytical equations are derived based on optical interferometry and then solved to obtain cell parameters. The present method is fast and can give 2D-cell parameters from only two quick interferograms.  相似文献

We study the nonlinear phase response of a microring resonator coupled to a bus waveguide and the use of this nonlinear phase shift to store information in the microring resonator and enhance the switching characteristics of a Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI). By introducing coupling between adjacent microring resonators, the switching characteristics of the MZI can be exponentially enhanced as a function of the number of microring resonators, when compared to the linear enhancement for uncoupled resonators. With only a few moderate-finesse microring resonators, the switching power can be reduced to attowatt level, allowing for photonic switching devices that operate at single-photon level in ordinary optical waveguides.   相似文献
