In this article, the δ‐hyperbolic concept, originally developed for infinite graphs, is adapted to very large but finite graphs. Such graphs can indeed exhibit properties typical of negatively curved spaces, yet the traditional δ‐hyperbolic concept, which requires existence of an upper bound on the fatness δ of the geodesic triangles, is unable to capture those properties, as any finite graph has finite δ. Here the idea is to scale δ relative to the diameter of the geodesic triangles and use the Cartan–Alexandrov–Toponogov (CAT) theory to derive the thresholding value of δdiam below which the geometry has negative curvature properties. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Experimental investigations of lyotropic cholesterics fluids are presented which show that changes in the shape anisotropy and chirality of the micellar population determine the topology of the temperature-concentration phase diagrams. For given amounts of the substances which induce the chirality and modify the shape anisotropy of the micelles, two distinct biaxial cholesteric phases are disclosed in the phase diagrams. This is interpreted in the framework of the catastrophe theory of phase transitions.  相似文献

A measurement is made of the production correlation between neutral strange particles V and muons. The interactions originated in a streamer chamber containing a Lucite target bombarded by 225 GeV π? mesons. The experiment has a sensitivity of 10 events per nanobarn and yields no evidence for new particles.  相似文献

Segmented polymer networks with LCST‐behavior have been prepared by free radical initiated copolymerization of α,ω‐bis‐methacrylate terminated poly(methyl vinyl ether) (PMVE) with 2‐hydroxy ethyl methacrylate (HEMA) or butyl acrylate (BA). The PMVE bis‐macromonomers have been obtained via a semi‐continuous process by end‐capping the living cationic polymerization of methyl vinyl ether (MVE) with HEMA. The phase separation temperature can be varied by changing the PMVE/comonomer ratio. Incorporation of PMVE‐grafts in the hydrogels increases the rate of deswelling and improves the mechanical properties. The application of the segmented networks for thermo‐controllable solid phase extraction has been demonstrated by their thermosensitive adsorption behavior of toluene from a water solution.  相似文献

We report an experimental investigation of momentum diffusion in the delta-function kicked rotor where time symmetry is broken by a two-period kicking cycle and spatial symmetry by an alternating linear potential. We exploit this, and a technique involving a moving optical potential, to create an asymmetry in the momentum diffusion that is due to the classical chaotic diffusion. This represents a realization of a type of Hamiltonian quantum ratchet.  相似文献

The transport properties of a simple model for a finite level structure (a molecule or a dot) connected to metal electrodes in an alternating current scanning tunneling microscope (ac-STM) configuration is studied. The finite level structure is assumed to have strong binding properties with the metallic substrate, and the bias between the STM tip and the hybrid metal-molecule interface has both an ac and a dc component. The finite frequency current response and the zero-frequency photoassisted shot noise are computed using the Keldysh technique, and examples for a single-site molecule (a quantum dot) and for a two-site molecule are examined. The model may be useful for the interpretation of recent experiments using an ac-STM for the study of both conducting and insulating surfaces, where the third harmonic component of the current is measured. The zero-frequency photoassisted shot noise serves as a useful diagnosis for analyzing the energy level structure of the molecule. The present work motivates the need for further analysis of current fluctuations in electronic molecular transport.  相似文献
