Natural product chemistry. Part 160. Synthesis of 8-, 9-, 10- and 11-methylacronycines to improve the cytostatic activity of acronycine

With the help of drug design, 8-, 9-, 10- and 11-methylacronycines 24, 25, 26 and 27 have been selected and synthesised to improve the cytostatic potency of acronycine ( 31 ). The condensation of phloroglucinol with 6-methylanthranilic acid gave 7-hydroxy-1,9-dimethyldibenzo[b,j][1,7]phenanthroline-8,14(5H,13H)-dione ( 32 ) as the main product.

The silica adsorbent layer of thin layer plates is volatilized within a few minutes by fuming with hydrogen fluoride. Materials that have been separated by chromatography are recovered with yields from 80 to 90%. Substances are thus retained at the aluminium carrier plate. It serves as a mirror for infrared reflectance spectroscopy. Thus a detection is possible without the necessity of a transfer. The procedure should not be applied to volatile substances or materials that may be altered by the treatment with hydrogen fluoride.

HCOOH-ring closures of OH-lactams $\text{7}$ possessing an allyl substituted alkene function solely afford pyrrolizidines $\text{8}$ and $\text{9}$ in high yield via 2-aza-Cope rearrangement and ensuing α-acyliminium cyclisation.

The ground-state dispersion energy of a pair of axially symmetric molecules is calculated, to arbitrary order in the inverse intermolecular separation, on the basis of London's anisotropic oscillator model.
