Discontinuous changes of the lattice parameters at the Mott metal-insulator transition are detected by high-resolution dilatometry on deuterated crystals of the layered organic conductor kappa-(BEDT-TTF)(2)Cu[N(CN)(2)]Br. The uniaxial expansivities uncover a striking and unexpected anisotropy, notably a zero effect along the in-plane c axis along which the electronic interactions are relatively strong. A huge thermal expansion anomaly is observed near the end point of the first-order transition line enabling us to explore the critical behavior with very high sensitivity. The analysis yields critical fluctuations with an exponent alpha approximately 0.8+/-0.15 at odds with the novel criticality recently proposed for these materials [Kagawa et al., Nature (London) 436, 534 (2005)]. Our data suggest an intricate role of the lattice degrees of freedom in the Mott transition for the present materials. 相似文献

In this study a novel technique for 2D spray temperature measurement is presented. For this purpose the thermographic phosphor (TP) Mg4GeO5.5F:Mn was dispersed in n-dodecane and atomised using a conventional semi solid-cone nozzle. The thermographic phosphor was excited electronically by a frequency tripled Nd:YAG laser (355 nm). An ICCD-camera in combination with an image doubler detected the subsequently emitted phosphorescence at both peak emission wavelengths located at 633 nm and 659 nm, respectively. Utilising suitable calibration measurements, the local spray temperature was determined by evaluating the intensity ratio of both emission wavelengths. To the knowledge of the authors this is the first approach of spray temperature measurement exploiting the temperature dependent intensity ratio of thermographic phosphors. On the basis of Tsallis’ entropy and the joint probability factorization condition, two controversial problems existing in Tsallis’ statistics are investigated, where one is whether energy is extensive or not and the other is whether it is necessary to introduce the so-called generalized zeroth law of thermodynamics or not. The results obtained show clearly that like entropy, energy is also nonextensive in Tsallis’ statistics, and that the zeroth law of thermodynamics has been implicitly used in Tsallis’ statistics since 1988. Moreover, it is expounded that the standard energy additivity rule adopted by a great number of researchers is not suitable in Tsallis’ statistics, because its corollary is in contradiction with the zeroth law of thermodynamics. 相似文献

We propose a monolithic narrowband guided-mode grating filter in fused silica that is widely tunable in the near-IR wavelength region. Based on a recently demonstrated approach for a monolithic reflector comprising an encapsulated grating, we theoretically investigate such a device by means of rigorous modeling aimed at a narrow linewidth. It is demonstrated that upon a spatial variation of the filter's grating period its resonance wavelength can be tuned in a remarkably wide range of near-IR radiation with 800 nm<λ(res)< 1600 nm by translating the laser beam relative to the grating area. The CERN Axion Solar Telescope (CAST) has extended its search for solar axions by using (3)He as a buffer gas. At T=1.8 K this allows for larger pressure settings and hence sensitivity to higher axion masses than our previous measurements with (4)He. With about 1 h of data taking at each of 252 different pressure settings we have scanned the axion mass range 0.39 eV?m(a)?0.64 eV. From the absence of excess x rays when the magnet was pointing to the Sun we set a typical upper limit on the axion-photon coupling of g(aγ)?2.3×10(-10) GeV(-1) at 95% C.L., the exact value depending on the pressure setting. Kim-Shifman-Vainshtein-Zakharov axions are excluded at the upper end of our mass range, the first time ever for any solar axion search. In the future we will extend our search to m(a)?1.15 eV, comfortably overlapping with cosmological hot dark matter bounds. 相似文献

Quantum-size effects unavoidably produce imperfect-regeneration heat losses in irreversible isothermal expansion/compression cycles, leading to the less efficiency of micro engines. Here, we design a smallest quantum Stirling-like heat engine using a single trapped electron as the working substance. The quantum probabilities to determine the electronic position are constructed from the incoherent mixed ensemble. When the quantum well expands isothermally to double its size and an infinite delta-function potential barrier is inserted in the middle, the complete degeneracies enable the heat engine to work reversibly and achieve the Carnot efficiency. An optical parametric oscillator (OPO), as a novel kind of broadband Stokes source, is employed for coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy (CARS). Compared to the conventional dye laser configuration OPO-CARS offers practical advantages. The tunable OPO allows a fast and comfortable frequency tuning. The excitation bandwidth of about 35 cm–1 (FWHM) limits the spectral range of effective and stable single pulse CARS generation but can be used to enhance selected spectral structures. 相似文献

It is essential to establish whether and how environmental factors affect the reliability of [13C]methacetin breath test (13C-MBT). In 12 healthy volunteers (smokers), a standard 13C-MBT with 75 mg [13C]methacetin was performed twice in random order: on a control day without smoking and on another day with smoking two cigarettes antecedently. A considerable flattening of the curve of the momentary 13C recovery within the expiratory air was observed when the 13C-MBT was performed after smoking. The maximum of the momentary 13C recovery, D max, decreased from 37.20±2.58 to 25.39±2.29% dose/h (p=0.00052). Moreover, the time to reach D max was prolonged after cigarette smoking (26.5±3.1 vs. 16.5±1.9 min, p=0.0199). The curve of the cumulative 13C recovery on the cigarette smoking day appeared to be shifted downwards, and statistically significant differences relative to the control situation were found between the 24th and 75th minute following [13C]methacetin administration. Smoking cigarettes immediately prior to the 13C-MBT diminishes the ability of the liver to handle methacetin, and hence a possibility of such an interaction should be excluded in order to interpret the results of the test correctly. 相似文献
