Dielectric relaxation of poly(ester-ether-carbonate) multiblock terpolymers

The dielectric properties of a series of poly(ester-ether-carbonate) multiblock terpolymers have been investigated as a function of ether and carbonate composition in the frequency range of 10³–10⁶ Hz. The degree of polymerization of the samples was determined by viscosimetry measurements. The weight fraction, degree of crystallinity, and melting temperatures were characterized by means of x-ray diffraction and DSC methods. Dielectric behavior has been discussed in terms of Havriliak-Negami formulation. The variation of the dielectric properties with temperature has been associated with two relaxation processes: a) the -relaxation process observed at low temperature, which is associated to local motion of polar groups attached to both the soft and the hard segments, and b) the process assigned to long-range molecular motions above the glass transition temperature.     

Influence of even nucleon numbers and closed shells on mass and charge distribution in low energy fission

Extensive experimental and evaluated yield data are now available for the fragments in low energy nuclear fission. Using these data we re-examined the influence of even nuclear numbers and closed shells on the mass and charge distribution in low energy fission. We used WAHL's Zp model and Ap model. We also examined the effects ofZ=50,N=82 and possiblyN=88 shells. A new method was developed based on two Gaussian curves for the even and odd products. TheEOZ andEON values calculated are based on these different methods and are seen to be consistent with each other in spite of the somewhat different definitions of the even-odd effect. The even-odd effect decreases with an increasing fissility parameter. TheEON values are substantially lower than the correspondingEOZ values, probably due to the effect of washing out the neutron pairing effect by prompt neutron emission. The magnitude of the even-odd effect varies with different mass regions. TheEOZ andEON values decrease as they go from asymmetric to symmetric regions in mass distributions.     

Determination of palladium in alloys and ores by substoichiometric thermal neutron activation analysis

A rapid, selective and simple method have been developed for the determination of palladium in alloys and ores by thermal neutron activation analysis, incorporating substoichiometric solvent extraction of Pd/II/ with 1,2,3-benzotriazole /1,2,3-BT/ into methyl iso-butyl ketone /MIBK/. Two samples and a standard can be processed and counted within two hours.     

Metal chelates of heterocyclic nitrogen-containing ketones,Part XXII. Spectroscopic studies on rhodium(III) complexes of phenyl-2-picolylketone-2-pyridyl hydrazone

Summary Mono, bis and tris complexes of rhodium(III) with phenyl-2-picolylketone-2-pyridyl hydrazone (PPKPyH) have been characterized. In every case, the imino-proton of PPKPyH shows marked acidity associated with the coordination to rhodium(III). Electronic spectra show that all complexes are octahedral. The B-values suggest a strong covalency in the metal-ligand -bond and the Dq-values indicate a medium-strong ligand field. The magnetic susceptibility indicates that PPKPyH forms low-spin complexes with rhodium(III).¹H n.m.r. spectra show that the tris(ligand) complexes arecis isomers. I.r. spectra show that the ligand is neutral or monobasic tridentate or bidentate. Far i.r. studies show that [Rh(PPKPyH)X₃] · 2 H₂O (X = Cl, Br or I) aremer isomers. The effect of pH variation on the rection products is also discussed.     

Thermal behavior of holo- and hemicellulose obtained from rice straw and bagasse

Thermal gravimetric analysis, and differential thermal behavior of holo- and hemicelluloses obtained from rice straw and bagasse were investigated. Degradation was found to be of first order reaction. The activation energy values and the rate constants were calculated from the kinetic of weight loss. Hemicellulose was found to be less stable than holocellulose, and the stability of the samples was arranged in the order, rice straw holo- > bagasse holo- > rice straw hemi- > bagasse hemicellulose. Degradation of rice straw (holo- as well as hemicellulose) was performed via two exothermic processes, whereas bagasse hemicellulose combustion was completed through three exothermic processes. The magnitude and the shape of the exotherms depend, mainly, on the chemical composition of the sample.     

Analysis of ephedrine in ephedra callus by acetonitrile modified capillary zone electrophoresis

A simple method has been developed for the quantitative determination of ephedrine in ephedra callus. The dependence of effective mobility of ephedrine on pH was investigated, and a simulated equation was obtained. The separation was performed in an uncoated capillary and detected at 185 nm. A new Tris–NaOH–H₃PO₄ run buffer was used and the pH was adjusted to 3.20. To increase the solubility of hydrophobic analytes and improve the separation efficiency, 15% acetonitrile was used in the buffer as a modifier. The content of ephedrine in an ephedra callus sample and an ephedra herba sample were determined with this method, and the result was satisfactory.     

Weak and strong vibronic coupling limits in molecules and their correlation

An exactly solvable vibronic coupling model is used to improve existing definitions of strong and weak vibronic coupling limits in molecules and to derive a unique correlation between the corresponding energy levels.

Reaction of 2,3,3-trimethyl-3H-indole hydrochloride with methacrylic and crotonic amides

Reaction of 2,3,3-trimethyl-and 2,3,3,5-tetramethyl-3H-indole hydrochlorides with methacrylic and crotonic amides gives 3- and 4-methyl-1,2,3,4,10,10a-hexahydropyrimido[1,2-a]indol-2-ones. With perchloric acid these are converted to 1-carbamoylpropyl-3H-indolium perchlorates. The syntheses of 10a-(4-dimethylaminostyryl)- and 10a-[(4-dimethylaminophenyl)butadienyl]-3,10,10-trimethylpyrimido[1,2-a]indol-2-ones have been studied.Translated from Khimiya Geterotsiklicheskikh Soedinenii, No. 5, pp. 625–627, May, 1990.
