We describe the previously unreported oxygen excess hexagonal antimony tungsten bronze with composition Sb0.5W3O10, in the following denoted as h-SbxWO3+2x with x=0.167, to demonstrate its analogy to classical AxWO3 tungsten bronzes. This compound forms in a relatively narrow temperature range between 580 °C<T<620 °C. It was obtained as a dark-blue polycrystalline powder, and as thin, needle-shaped, blue single crystals. h-SbxWO3+2x crystallizes in the hexagonal space group P6/mmm with the cell parameters a=7.4369(4) Å and c=3.7800(2) Å. The antimony and excess oxygen occupy the hexagonal channels within the network of corner-sharing WO6 octahedra. h-SbxWO3+2x has a resistivity of ρ300 K≈1.28 mΩ cm at room temperature, with little if any temperature-dependence on cooling. DFT calculations on a simplified model for this compound find a metallic-like electronic structure with the Fermi level falling within rather flat bands, especially around the Γ point. 相似文献

Sulfonation of narrow polydispersity polystyrene, PS, standards remains the method of choice for generating polystyrene sulfonate, PSS, samples with defined composition. Although a variety of sulfonation techniques have been described, relatively little is reported on the material obtained, which is used for so many studies on the fundamental behavior of polyelectrolytes. Here, we show that powdered polystyrene treated with concentrated sulfuric acid (96%) at 90 °C without catalyst yields fully sulfonated PSS. Extensive characterization with 1H and 13C NMR as well as size exclusion chromatography coupled with static and dynamic light scattering shows no evidence of sulfone crosslinking or chain degradation under the conditions used. Though mono‐sulfonated as soon as it dissolves in the acid, the PSS contains about 6% meta substitution. Sulfonation kinetics for this heterogeneous reaction depend strongly on particle size, sulfuric acid content and temperature. For preparing perdeuterated PSS from the corresponding PS it is essential to employ D2SO4, as about half of the aromatic units undergo H/D exchange during sulfonation. In the Fall of 1999, Illinois State University (ISU) piloted a new General Chemistry I course. This course now includes cooperative learning exercises that were developed and implemented in biweekly discussion sections over the past four semesters. We now have discussion exercises all taught by six different tenured and tenure-track faculty members. This study focuses on the effect on student behaviors and learning in General Chemistry I. Data were obtained from student surveys, student interviews, instructor feedback, and examination results. The results obtained in this study show that student interest in chemistry can be maintained or increased by the incorporation of cooperative learning into the general chemistry curriculum. In addition, this cooperative learning approach promoted attendance, was enjoyable for many students, and seemed to have some positive effect on achievement. 相似文献

trans-Bis(N-methylpyridinium-4-yl)diphenylporphine forms extended, organized assemblies on DNA templates under appropriate conditions of concentration, ionic strength, and temperature. Addition of beta-cyclodextrin to these arrays leads to their disassembly as evidenced by changes in extinction, circular dichroism, and resonance light scattering spectra. The structure or flexibility of the polymer template has an effect on the rate of disassembly; the reaction is faster on a poly(dG-dC)(2) surface than on ct DNA. The kinetic profiles for the disassembly process can be fit with great precision with a two-kinetic parameter equation in which the rate constant is itself a function of time. The reaction rate, studied in the presence of excess beta-CD, shows a dependence on the mode of detection. A model is presented to account for these observations in which the arrays become increasingly reactive with time due to beta-CD attack at the interior of the porphyrin assemblies as well as the ends. 相似文献

1,4-Diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane (DABCO) has been used as a mild and efficient catalyst for the synthesis of various tetrahydrobenzo[b]pyran derivatives via a one-pot, three component condensation of aromatic aldehydes, dimedone, and active methylene compounds. This method provides several advantages: a simple workup procedure, environmental friendliness, neutral conditions, and good yields. In addition, water or 50% aqueous ethanol was chosen as a green solvent.

Modified micellar electrokinetic chromatography (MEKC) analysis of monomeric flavanols (catechin and epicatechin) and methylxanthines (caffeine and theobromine) in chocolate and cocoa was performed by using sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) as a principal component of the running buffer. Because of the reported poor stability of catechins in alkaline solutions, acidic conditions (pH 2.5) were chosen and consequently the electroosmotic flow (EOF) was significantly suppressed; this resulted in a fast anodic migration of the analytes partitioned into the SDS micelles. Under these conditions, variations of either pH value in acidic range or SDS concentration, showed to be not suitable to modulate the selectivity. To overcome this limit, use of additives to the SDS-based running buffer was successfully applied and three different systems were optimized for the separation of (+)-catechin, (-)-epicatechin, caffeine, and theobromine in chocolate and cocoa powder samples. In particular, two mixed micelle systems were applied; the first consisted of a mixture of SDS and 3-[(3-cholamidopropyl)dimethylammonio]-1-propansulfonate (CHAPS) with a composition of 90 mM and 10 mM, respectively; the second was SDS and taurodeoxycholic acid sodium salt (TDC) with a composition of 70 mM and 30 mM, respectively. A further MEKC approach was developed by addition of 10 mM hydroxypropyl-beta-cyclodextrin (HP-beta-CD) to the SDS solution (90 mM); it provided a useful cyclodextrin(CD)-modified MEKC. By applying the optimized conditions, different separation profiles of the flavanols and methylxanthines were obtained showing interesting potential of these combined systems; their integrated application showed to be useful for the identification of the low level of (+)-catechin in certain real samples. The CD-MEKC approach was validated and applied to the determination of catechins and methylxanthines in aqueous extracts from four different commercial chocolate types (black and milk) and two cocoa powders. 相似文献
