The absorption cross sections of N2, O2, CO,NO, CO2, N2O,CH4, C2H4, C2H6 and C4H10 from 180 to 700Å

The absorption cross sections of N₂, O₂, CO, NO, CO₂, N₂O, CH₄, C₂H₄, C₂H₆, C₄H₁₀ have been measured photoelectrically in the 180–700 Å region using synchrotron radiation. The absorption cross sections in the region λ ≥ 500 Å was found to be structureless and to increase monotonically with wavelength for all gases. The positions of the structure observed in the 520–720 Å region for N₂, O₂, CO₂ and N₂O are consistent with the various Rydberg series reported by previous authors.     

Second-order perturbation correction to the Bogoliubov excitation spectrum

Two substantially different perturbation methods are used to obtain two equivalent exact results for the leading correction to the Bogoliubov formula for the energy spectrum of an elementary excitation in a boson fluid.     

Top–bottom mass hierarchy, s-\mu puzzle and gauge coupling unification with split multiplets

Supersymmetric 5D SU(5) grand unification is considered. SU(5) is broken down to by the assignment of the bulk field(s). The matter fields are located at the fixed point(s). In the bulk, a Higgs multiplet (containing the bottom doublet ) and the SU(5) gauge multiplet are located. At one fixed point, (the top doublet) and the standard model matter multiplets are presented. Because of the difference of the locations of and , one can obtain a hierarchy between top and bottom Yukawa couplings. We also present a possible way to understand the s– mass puzzle in this framework of the split multiplet. Freezing of a stripe liquid

The existence of a stripe-liquid phase in a layered nickelate, La(1.725)Sr(0.275)NiO(4), is demonstrated through neutron scattering measurements. We show that incommensurate magnetic fluctuations evolve continuously through the charge-ordering temperature, although an abrupt decrease in the effective damping energy is observed on cooling through the transition. The energy and momentum dependence of the magnetic scattering are parametrized with a damped-harmonic-oscillator model describing overdamped spin waves in the antiferromagnetic domains defined instantaneously by charge stripes.     

Iteration scheme for nondensely defined ordinary differential operator equation

An iteration scheme is given for constructing the unique least-squares solution of minimal norm for an ordinary differential operator equation. This operator is subject to generalized two- point boundary conditions and is nondensely defined. The convergence is established in a uniform topology.     

Analysis of mutiple-shepers radiation and scattering problems by using a null-field integral equation approach

A systematic approach using the null-field integral equation in conjunction with the degenerate kernel is employed to solve the multiple radiation and scattering problems. Our approach can avoid calculating the principal values of singular and hypersingular integrals. Although we use the idea of null-field integral equation, we can locate the point on the real boundary thanks to the degenerate kernel. The proposed approach is seen as one kind of semi-analytical methods, since the error is attributed from the truncation of spherical harmonics. Finally, the numerical examples including one and two spheres are given to verify the validity of proposed approach.
