The significance of kinetics on the development of microstructures in connection with sintering of ceramics is well recognized. In practice, however, it still remains a challenge to prepare designed microstructures via engineering the sintering kinetics because of an insufficient understanding of the different operative mechanisms that are in many cases overlapping. In this article the kinetic issues involved in sintering are described and discussed with respect to their potential for prototyping microstructures that yield desired properties. By exploiting and mastering the differences present in the kinetics of grain sliding, densification, chemical reactions, and grain growth, respectively, we have established processing principles for producing bulk ceramics with microstructures consisting of nano-sized grains, aligned grains, and/or non-equilibrium-phase constitutions, and for achieving radically improved superplasticity in brittle ceramics. Although the studies quoted in this article were mainly carried out by spark plasma sintering, more general implications of them are expected, including efficient particle sliding, deformation-induced dynamic ripening, superplastic deformation-induced dynamic ripening, and non-equilibrium integration. 相似文献

We propose an adaptive way to improve noise reduction by local geometric projection. From the neighborhood of each candidate point in phase space, we identify the best subspace that the point will be orthogonally projected to. The signal subspace is formed by the most significant eigendirections of the neighborhood, while the less significant ones define the noise subspace. We provide a simple criterion to separate the most significant eigendirections from the less significant ones. This criterion is based on the maximum logarithmic difference between the neighborhood eigendirection lengths, and the assumption that there is at least one eigendirection that corresponds to the noise subspace. In this way, we take into account the special characteristics of each neighborhood and introduce a more successful noise reduction technique. Results are presented for a chaotic time series of the Henon map and Ikeda map, as well as on the Nasdaq Composite index. 相似文献

Molecular modeling of four different reagent systems shows that the (free) energies of supramolecular interactions in the gas phase and in solution can explain the different reaction products (i.e., various sized macrocycles, catenanes, and linear oligomers) that are formed in classic amide-catenane-forming reactions. Self-assembly of the catenanes requires the formation of ordered intertwined chains and is driven by bifurcated hydrogen bonds, with pi stacking only playing a lesser role. The understanding gained from the computational study was used to predict the possibility of a new rotaxane-forming system that does not permit catenane formation. The predictions were confirmed by the successful synthesis and characterization (including X-ray crystallography) of two novel rotaxanes. 相似文献

A microfluidic flow injection (microFIA) system was employed for handling and monitoring of cell-released products from living cells immobilised on silicon microchips. The dynamic release of glucose and ethanol produced from sucrose by immobilised Saccharomyces cerevisiae cells was determined using microchip biosensors (micro-biosensors) with either co-immobilised glucose oxidase-horseradish peroxidase (GOX-HRP), or alcohol oxidase-horseradish peroxidase (AOX-HRP), catalysing a series of reactions ending up with chemiluminescence (CL) generated from HRP-catalysed oxidation of luminol in presence of p-iodophenol (PIP). The yeast cells were attached by first treating them with polyethylenimine (PEI) followed by adsorption to the microchip surface. The cell loss during assaying was evaluated qualitatively using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), showing that no cells were lost after 35 min liquid handling of the cell chip at 10 microl min(-1). The enzymes were immobilised on microchips via PEI-treatment followed by glutaraldehyde (GA) activation. The GOX-HRP micro-biosensors could be used during five days without any noticeable decrease in response, while the AOX-HRP micro-biosensors showed continuously decreasing activity, but could still be used employing calibration correction. The glucose and ethanol released from the immobilised yeast chips were quantitatively monitored, by varying the incubation time with sucrose, showing the possibilities and advantages of using a microfluidic system set-up for cell-based assays. 相似文献

A series of molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) synthetic receptors selective for the sedative thalidomide (5) have been designed and synthesized based upon the functional monomer 9-(2'-methacryloyloxyethyl)adenine (2). (1)H-NMR studies were used to establish the existence of DNA-like binding interactions between 2 and the template (5). A series of ethylene glycol dimethacrylate cross-linked copolymers was synthesized using either 2 or methacrylic acid, or a combination of these functional monomers. Zonal HPLC studies demonstrated enantioselectivity (alpha = 2.11) and ligand selectivity which could be attributed to the interaction of 2 with the imide moiety of 5. Compound 2 provided a more significant contribution to the binding of 5 than methacrylic acid, though a combination of these two functional monomers resulted in improved enantioselectivity. Frontal chromatographic and batch binding studies confirmed the observed differences in affinity of the imprinted and reference polymers for the template. 相似文献

KamLAND has measured the flux of nu;(e)'s from distant nuclear reactors. We find fewer nu;(e) events than expected from standard assumptions about nu;(e) propagation at the 99.95% C.L. In a 162 ton.yr exposure the ratio of the observed inverse beta-decay events to the expected number without nu;(e) disappearance is 0.611+/-0.085(stat)+/-0.041(syst) for nu;(e) energies >3.4 MeV. In the context of two-flavor neutrino oscillations with CPT invariance, all solutions to the solar neutrino problem except for the "large mixing angle" region are excluded. 相似文献
