Nonparametric estimation of the local Hurst function of multifractional Gaussian processes

A new nonparametric estimator of the local Hurst function of a multifractional Gaussian process based on the increment ratio (IR) statistic is defined. In a general frame, the point-wise and uniform weak and strong consistency and a multidimensional central limit theorem for this estimator are established. Similar results are obtained for a refinement of the generalized quadratic variations (QV) estimator. The example of the multifractional Brownian motion is studied in detail. A simulation study is included showing that the IR-estimator is more accurate than the QV-estimator.     

Spectral distributions for long range perturbations

We study distributions which generalize the concept of spectral shift function, for pseudo-differential operators on . We call such distributions spectral distributions. Relations between relative scattering determinants and spectral distributions are established; they lead to the definition of regularized scattering phase. These relations are analogous to the usual one for the standard spectral shift function. We give several asymptotic properties in the high energy and semiclassical limits where both nontrapping and trapping cases are considered. In particular, we prove Breit-Wigner formulae for the regularized scattering phases, for semiclassical Schrödinger operators with long-range potentials.     

On the probability that n and [n c] are coprime

We prove that for any positive real number which is not an integer, the density of the integers which are coprime to , a result conjectured by Moser, Lambek and Erd Hs. This revised version was published online in June 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.

Diverse Imprecise Goal Programming Model Formulations

The goal programming (GP) model is probably the best known in mathematical programming with multiple objectives. Available in various versions, GP is one of the most powerful multiple objective methods which has been applied in much varied fields. It has also been the target of many criticisms among which are those related to the difficulty of determining precisely the goal values as well as those concerning the decision-maker's near absence in this modelling process. In this paper, we will use the concept of indifference thresholds for modelling the imprecision related to the goal values. Many classical imprecise and fuzzy GP model formulations can be considered as a particular case of the proposed formulation.     

Infinitely renormalizable diffeomorphisms of the disk at the boundary of chaos

We show that, among area contracting embeddings of the 2-disk, infinitely renormalizable maps with a bounded geometry either have positive topological entropy or correspond to a cascade of period doubling.

About the Stability of the Dodecatoplet

A new investigation is done of the possibility of binding the “dodecatoplet”, a system of six top quarks and six top antiquarks, (t ⁶ t̄ ⁶), using the Yukawa potential mediated by Higgs exchange. A simple variational method gives a upper bound close to that recently estimated in a mean-field calculation. It is supplemented by a lower bound provided by identities among the Hamiltonians describing the system and its subsystems.     

Metallic glasses: Mössbauer contribution, physical properties and applications

We report first on the essential contributions of Mössbauer spectrometry to investigate iron-based metallic glasses. In addition to the analysis of the distributions of hyperfine data in terms of Fe coordination and neighbours, Mössbauer spectrometry is able to estimate the magnetic anisotropy from the magnetic texture, which can be correlated to the solidification process. After an overview of the different physical properties of the amorphous metallic alloys we also present their most advanced applications.
