Ionic wind generator derived from a liquid filled capillary pin. Application to particle capture

A new fluid pin-based ionic wind generator applied to airborne pathogen collection combines the processes of air flow generation by ionic wind, electrospray and electrostatic particle collection. This new concept brings a breakthrough in integration as it combines these three phenomena with a single driving force in order to perform the four functions of an airborne pathogen sampler, namely air flow production, particle capture, sample phase transfer and collecting electrode decontamination. The characterizations presented in this article led to a proof of concept and demonstrated the device's performance for a compact and portable airborne pathogen collection system.     

Entropy of bi-capacities

In the context of multicriteria decision making whose aggregation process is based on the Choquet integral, bi-capacities can be regarded as a natural extension of capacities when the underlying evaluation scale is bipolar. The notion of entropy, recently generalized to capacities to measure their uniformity, is now extended to bi-capacities. We show that the resulting entropy measure has a very natural interpretation in terms of the Choquet integral and satisfies many natural properties that one would expect from an entropy measure.

The regioselectivity of the EtAlCl-catalyzed addition of methyl vinyl ketone to the title diene can be reversed by solvent modification.     

Synthesis and Biological Properties of Enkephalin-like Peptides Containing Carboranylalanine in Place of Phenylalanine

The syntheses of [D -Ala², Car⁴, Leu⁵]-enkephalin, its amide, and of [D -Ala², Car⁴, Met⁵]-enkephalin amide are described in detail. The three compounds show pronounced morphine-like potencies in certain bio-assays, and were used to investigate the influence of electronic, steric and hydrophobic properties of the side-chains of amino acids no. 4 and 5 on opioid activity (see [13]).     

New strategy for the identification of amino acids by TLE and TLC using basic or buffered mobile phases

Summary Direct, simple and reliable means for characterization of the common amino acids, using mixtures of structural analogues of amino acids and combinations of low-voltage electrophoresis (1.04 mol dm^–3 formic acid) and chromatography (tert-butanol/methanol/pyridine/formic acid/water, 33:43:9.6:0.4:20, v/v, methanol/pyridine/formic acid/water, 70:9.6:0.4:20, v/v, or tertpentanol/methylethylketone/pyridine/water, 37.5:37.5:5:20, v/v) on amorphous cellulose thin-layer are given. Total stereospecificity in free radical intramolecular addition : Cyclisation of cis and trans 1-methyl 4-hexenyl N-chloroamines by means of metallic salts

Extremely high stereospecificity (up to 100% diastereoisomeric purity) can be obtained for the metallic salts radical cyclisation of the cis and trans 1-methyl 4-hexenyl N-choloroamines. A possible mechanism for the highly effective trans-addition using metal-complexed aminyl radical is proposed.     

Low temperature specific heat of Ni-Co and Ni-Fe alloys

Values of the low temperature specific heat of f.c.c. Ni-Co and Ni-Fe alloys have been determined in the 1.2–8 K range with a relative accuracy of 10^-3 and analysed to separate the electron, phonon, magnon and hyperfine terms. Results are in good agreement with former data^5–7 and with theory: Gomes' model⁴ of a d-d tight-binding scattering in the dilute case, Hasegawa's^12,13 CPA calculations are both consistent with experiments.

Asymmetric Palladium-Assisted Alkylation of Alkenes

Palladium-promoted alkylation of alkenes using chiral sulfoxide-containing carbanions and chiral lithiated oxazolines results in asymmetric induction (AI) ranging from 3–5% (1,5 induction), 20–40% (1,3 induction) to 44–52% (1,4 induction). No general trend allowing predictions of results was found. With 1-hexene, attack at C(1) is almost exclusive but propene gives a mixture of attack at C(1) and C(2). The use of a chiral ligand together with malonate anion also leads to some asymmetric induction (ca. 20%).
