Two-phase quasi-periodic solutions of the sine-Gordon equation are discussed. It is shown that the solutions expressed by the multidimensional θ-function form a broader class than the well-known factorised solutions 4 arctan [f(u)g(v)]. This paper presents a preliminary study of a previously unreported phenomenon of the “gas driven granular jump”, observed in the gas–solids flow within the pneumatic conveying system. From the phenomenological point of view, it resembles the already known processes such as hydraulic jumps in shallow water or granular jumps in granular flows in chutes or avalanches (although it seems most appropriate to explain it by analogy to a propagating granular bore). Clearly, unlike in classical phenomena of this type, the flow itself is driven by the aerodynamic forces related to the gas flow and the behaviour of the front of the “jump” is modified significantly by their presence. A series of high-speed camera visualisations are presented, which focus on this unusual behaviour of the flow on the border-line between cluster and stratified flow regimes in a horizontal pipe. Some similarities are drawn between the observed phenomenon and the broader class of problems exhibiting transition between super- and sub-critical flows. The fluid dynamical aspects and possible mechanisms behind the new phenomenon are discussed and the results obtained are compared quantitatively with simple theoretical models.  相似文献

The results of buckling tests on circular cylinders heated uniformly along axial strips are presented and discussed. Calculations of critical temperature based upon the small-deflection theory for thin circular cylindrical shells are included and a comparison is made between theoretical and experimental results. Cylinders heated along axial strips of given widths have a theoretically predicted behaivor which corresponds reasonably well to the behavior obtained by experiment. Curves are included showing the variation of critical temperature with respect to heated axial-strip width.  相似文献

In this paper we develop numerical algorithms for the continuationof degenerate homoclinic connections in planar systems. We considerthe case where the equilibrium point has zero trace and twocases of higher-order degeneracies. The method we propose isable to continue homoclinic connections of order up to codimension-four.Application of the algorithm to four examples supports its validityand demonstrates its usefulness.  相似文献

The collision-induced dissociation (CID) of deprotonated arylalkylamines of general formula R(1)C(6)H(4)CHR(2)CH(2)NR(3)(2) (where R(1) = H, OH, F or NO(2); R(2) = H or OH; R(3) = H or CH(3)) generated by negative chemical ionization with H(2)O and D(2)O as ionizing reagents, is discussed. The negative chemical ionization mass spectra show that, in the absence of a hydroxy group in the aromatic ring, deprotonation takes place at the benzylic position whereas the proton is lost from the OH group when present. The nitro compound forms only M(-.) ions. The CID spectra of the deprotonated molecules show that fragmentations are strongly dependent on the structural features of the molecules, namely the presence or absence of substituents in the aromatic ring or aliphatic chain. With the development of high intensity femtosecond lasers, the ionisation and dissociation dynamics of molecules has become an area of considerable interest. Using the technique of femtosecond laser mass spectrometry (FLMS), the molecules carbon disulphide, pyrimidine, toluene, cyclohexanone and benzaldehyde are studied with pulse widths of 50 fs in the near infrared (IR) wavelength region (790 nm). Results are presented and contrasted for laser beam intensities around 10(15) and 10(16) W cm(-2). For the lower intensities, the mass spectra yield dominant singly charged parent ions. Additionally, the appearance of doubly charged parent ions is evident for carbon disulphide, toluene and benzaldehyde with envelopes of doubly charged satellite species existing in these local regions. Carbon disulphide also reveals a small triply charged component. Such atomic-like features are thought to be a strong fingerprint of FLMS at these intensities. However, upon increasing the laser intensity to approximately 10(16) W cm(-2), parent ion dominance decreases and the appearance of multiply charged atomic species occurs, particularly carbon. This phenomenon has been attributed to Coulomb explosions in which the fast absorption of many photons may produce transient highly ionised parent species which can subsequently blow apart. The potential of femtosecond laser time-of-flight mass spectrometry (FLMS) for uniform quantitative analysis of molecules has been investigated. Various samples of molecular gases and vapours have been studied, using ultra-fast ( approximately 50 fs) laser pulses with very high intensity (up to 1.6 x 10(16) Wcm(-2)) for non-resonant multiphoton ionisation/tunnel ionisation. Some of these molecules have high ionisation potentials, requiring up to ten photons for non-resonant ionisation. The relative sensitivity factors (RSF) have been determined as a function of the laser intensity and it has been demonstrated that for molecules with very different masses and ionisation potentials, uniform ionisation has been achieved at the highest laser intensities. Quantitative laser mass spectrometry of molecules is therefore a distinct possibility. Copyright 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

To assess the bacteria–antibiotic interactions in patients with postoperative wound infections, a simple electrophoretic test was performed. To estimate the effectiveness of the antibiotic therapy and to prepare 3‐day profiles of bacteria “quantity” in biological samples, CE was used. As our team demonstrated earlier, the method is easy and fast, sample pretreatment is not necessary, and it is characterized by high selectivity. Finally, the statistically optimal and significant results of the CZE test analysis for detection of Escherichia coli cells was established for migration time lower than 3.5 min. The obtained sensitivity and specificity amounted to 89.5 and 100%, respectively. It is the first application of CZE in the study of medical therapy.  相似文献

A method for the synthesis of iodinated imidazolium and triazolium N-heterocyclic halogen-bond-donor catalysts has been developed. This approach was applied to the synthesis of a variety of 1,2,4-triazolium salts to prepare a series of novel chiral halogen-bond-donor catalysts. The counterions of the iodinated triazoliums can be readily exchanged with chiral and achiral non-coordinating counterions to produce unique scaffolds. Their ability to promote/catalyse a conjugate addition reaction with indole was investigated. Through these initial studies, a set of general guidelines and considerations for the application of these halogen-bond donors in organocatalysis have been established.  相似文献

The compound NTA-DCF consists of two components, a dichlorofluorescein (DCF) reporter and a nitrilotriacetic acid (NTA) functionality. The latter binds polyhistidine sequences selectively through a bridging metal ion. The NTA-DCF conjugate has photophysical properties similar to those of the parent DCF fluorophore both by itself and as its nickel(II) complex. The insensitivity of the emission to paramagnetic ions allows the probe to label His6-tagged proteins fluorescently on the extracellular surfaces of HEK 293-T and HeLa cells.  相似文献
