Two hybrid coatings synthesized by using alkoxysilanes as precursors in a sol–gel process, differing from each other in terms of the organic components in alkoxysilanes, have been developed to improve the water repellent properties of base paper. The sol–gel‐coated base paper samples were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, confocal laser scanning microscopy, X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, time‐of‐flight secondary ion mass spectrometry, and contact angle measurements. The sol–gel coatings were found to clearly change the surface properties of base paper. Thin coating layers were formed on base paper surfaces. The topographical data indicated the formation of discontinuous thin films; the time‐of‐flight secondary ion mass spectrometry analyses confirmed that the coatings were covering the fibres but only partially covered the fibre–fibre intersections. Water and the subsequent heat treatment used as a reference treatment reduced the surface roughness and porosity and slightly changed the surface chemistry of the base paper. The wettability and absorptivity of base paper was clearly reduced by the applied coatings. Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Quinolines with a hydroxyl group at the 8-position and an alkoxy group at the 4-position are rare compounds. In this paper the synthesis of five 4-alkoxy-8-hydroxyquinolines is reported. The key reaction in the synthetic route is a selective protection of the hydroxyl group at C-atom 8 in 4,8-dihydroxyquinoline with a tosyl group and the hydrolytic removal of the protective group after the alkylation. The tosyl group is stable during the alkylations with various alkylating agents in the presence of sodium hydride.  相似文献

Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) parameters are determined theoretically for the oxygen and hydrogen/deuterium nuclei of differently hydrogen-bonded water molecules in liquid water at 300 K. The parameters are the chemical shift, the shielding anisotropy, the asymmetry parameter of shielding, the nuclear quadrupole coupling constant, and the asymmetry parameter of the nuclear quadrupole coupling. We sample instantaneous configurations from a Car-Parrinello molecular dynamics simulation and feed nuclear coordinates into a quantum chemical program for the calculation of NMR parameters using density-functional theory with the three-parameter hybrid exchange-correlation (B3LYP) functional. In the subsequent analysis, molecules are divided into groups according to the number of hydrogen bonds they possess, and the full average NMR tensors are calculated separately for each group. The classification of the hydrogen-bonding cases is performed using a simple distance-based criterion. The analysis reveals in detail how the NMR tensors evolve as the environment changes gradually from gas to liquid upon increasing the number of hydrogen bonds to the molecule of interest. Liquid-state distributions of the instantaneous values of the NMR properties show a wide range of values for each hydrogen-bonding species with significant overlap between the different cases. Our study shows how local changes in the environment, along with classical thermal averaging, affect the NMR parameters in liquid water. For example, a broken or alternatively extra hydrogen bond induces major changes in the NMR tensors, and the effect is more pronounced for hydrogen or deuterium than for oxygen. The data sheds light on the usefulness of NMR experiments in investigating the local coordination of liquid water.  相似文献

Synthesis and characterization of bile acid-porphyrin conjugates (BAPs) are reported. Binding of saccharides with BAPs in aqueous methanol was studied by monitoring changes in the visible absorption spectral of the porphyrin-moieties. Although these studies clearly showed absorbance changes, suggesting quite high if non-selective binding, the mass spectral studies do not unambiguously support these results.  相似文献

Some models for axially moving orthotropic thin plates are investigated analytically via methods of complex analysis to derive estimates for critical plate velocities. The linearized Kirchhoff plate theory is used, and the energy forms of steady-state models are considered with homogeneous and inhomogeneous tension profiles in the cross direction of the plate. With the help of the energy forms, some limits for the divergence velocity of the plate are found analytically. In numerical examples, the derived lower limits for the divergence velocity are analyzed for plates with small flexural rigidity.  相似文献

We prove an equivalence result between the validity of a pointwise Hardy inequality in a domain and uniform capacity density of the complement. This result is new even in Euclidean spaces, but our methods apply in general metric spaces as well. We also present a new transparent proof for the fact that uniform capacity density implies the classical integral version of the Hardy inequality in the setting of metric spaces. In addition, we consider the relations between the above concepts and certain Hausdorff content conditions.  相似文献

We find numerically that in the limit of weak atom-atom interactions a Bose-Einstein condensate in an optical lattice may develop a pulsating dynamical instability in which the atoms nearly periodically form a peak in the occupation numbers of the lattice sites, and then return to the unstable initial state. Multiple peaks behaving similarly are also found. Simple arguments show that the pulsating instability is a remnant of integrability, and give a handle on the relevant physical scales.  相似文献

Boolean networks are used to model large nonlinear systems such as gene regulatory networks. We will present results that can be used to understand how the choice of functions affects the network dynamics. The so called bias-map and its fixed points depict much of the function's dynamical role in the network. We define the concept of stabilizing functions and show that many Post and canalizing functions are also stabilizing functions. Boolean networks constructed using the same type of stabilizing functions are always stable regardless of the average in-degree of network functions. We derive the number of all stabilizing functions and find it to be much larger than the number of Post and canalizing functions. We also discuss the implementation of functions and apply the presented results to biological data that give an approximation of the distribution of regulatory functions in eucaryotic cells. We find that the obtained theoretical results on the number of active genes are biologically plausible. Finally, based on the presented results, we discuss why canalizing and Post regulatory functions seem to be common in cells.  相似文献

The kinetics of signal formation in collinear photofragmentation and atomic absorption spectroscopy (CPFAAS) are discussed, and theoretical equations describing the relation between the concentration of the target molecule and the detected atomic absorption in case of pure and impure samples are derived. The validity of the equation for pure samples is studied experimentally by comparing measured target molecule concentrations to concentrations determined using two other independent techniques. Our study shows that CPFAAS is capable of measuring target molecule concentrations from parts per billion (ppb) to hundreds of parts per million (ppm) in microsecond timescale. Moreover, the possibility to extend the dynamic range to cover eight orders of magnitude with a proper selection of fragmentation light source is discussed. The maximum deviation between the CPFAAS technique and a reference measurement technique is found to be less than 5 %. In this study, potassium chloride vapor and atomic potassium are used as a target molecule and a probed atom, respectively.  相似文献
