Graphene nanostructures are promising candidates for future nanoelectronics and solid-state quantum information technology. In this review we provide an overview of a number of electron transport experiments on etched graphene nanostructures. We briefly revisit the electronic properties and the transport characteristics of bulk, i.e., two-dimensional graphene. The fabrication techniques for making graphene nanostructures such as nanoribbons, single electron transistors and quantum dots, mainly based on a dry etching ??paper-cutting?? technique are discussed in detail. The limitations of the current fabrication technology are discussed when we outline the quantum transport properties of the nanostructured devices. In particular we focus here on transport through graphene nanoribbons and constrictions, single electron transistors as well as on graphene quantum dots including double quantum dots. These quasi-one-dimensional (nanoribbons) and quasi-zero-dimensional (quantum dots) graphene nanostructures show a clear route of how to overcome the gapless nature of graphene allowing the confinement of individual carriers and their control by lateral graphene gates and charge detectors. In particular, we emphasize that graphene quantum dots and double quantum dots are very promising systems for spin-based solid state quantum computation, since they are believed to have exceptionally long spin coherence times due to weak spin-orbit coupling and weak hyperfine interaction in graphene.  相似文献

Proteins of all living organisms including plants, animals, and humans are made up of amino acid monomers that show identical stereochemical L-configuration. Hypotheses for the origin of this symmetry breaking in biomolecules include the absolute asymmetric photochemistry model by which interstellar ultraviolet (UV) circularly polarized light (CPL) induces an enantiomeric excess in chiral organic molecules in the interstellar/circumstellar media. This scenario is supported by a) the detection of amino acids in the organic residues of UV-photo-processed interstellar ice analogues, b) the occurrence of L-enantiomer-enriched amino acids in carbonaceous meteorites, and c) the observation of CPL of the same helicity over large distance scales in the massive star-forming region of Orion. These topics are of high importance in topical biophysical research and will be discussed in this review. Further evidence that amino acids and other molecules of prebiotic interest are asymmetrically formed in space comes from studies on the enantioselective photolysis of amino acids by UV-CPL. Also, experiments have been performed on the absolute asymmetric photochemical synthesis of enantiomer-enriched amino acids from mixtures of astrophysically relevant achiral precursor molecules using UV-circularly polarized photons. Both approaches are based on circular dichroic transitions of amino acids that will be highlighted here as well. These results have strong implications on our current understanding of how life's precursor molecules were possibly built and how life selected the left-handed form of proteinogenic amino acids.  相似文献

Aerosol samples were collected at an urban background site in Skopje, Former Yugoslavic Republic of Macedonia, during four measurement campaigns from December 2006 to October 2007. An impactor was used to collect particulate matter (PM2.5) aerosol particles and the samples were analyzed for the concentrations of particulate mass, black carbon (BC), and 17 elements. The 12‐h average PM2.5 concentrations varied in the range 10–140 µg m?3 with the highest concentrations measured during wintertime pollution episodes and during the summer period. Pair‐wise correlations and crustal enrichment were studied and the data set was analyzed by factor analysis and positive matrix factorization. Major aerosol components were identified as mineral dust (main observed tracers Si, K, Ca, Ti, Fe, Sr, and Rb), combustion (BC, S, K, V, and Ni), traffic‐related aerosol (Pb and Zn), and secondary sulfate combined with mineral dust. Combustion sources dominated during wintertime and were likely due to heavy oil combustion, biomass burning, and other industrial activities within the city area. Mineral dust was observed throughout the year, but the concentrations peaked during the unusually hot and dry summer of 2007. It is concluded that Skopje suffers from serious air pollution due to central and residential heating, the transport sector, and industrial activities within the city, and contributions from mineral dust increase the PM2.5 concentrations under dry periods. Topography and meteorological conditions aggravate the problems and make the air quality comparable with the conditions in other highly polluted cities in Southern Europe and worldwide. Production and space-time evolution of heavy quarks in central and non-central heavy-ion collisions at RHIC and LHC are studied with the partonic transport model Boltzmann Approach of MultiParton Scatterings (BAMPS). In addition to the initially created heavy quarks in hard parton scatterings during nucleon-nucleon collisions, secondary heavy quark production in the quark-gluon plasma is investigated and the sensitivity on various parameters is estimated. In BAMPS heavy quarks scatter with particles of the medium via elastic collisions, whose cross section is calculated with the running coupling and a more precise implementation of Debye screening. In this framework, we compute the elliptic flow and nuclear modification factor of heavy quarks and compare it to the experimental data.  相似文献

We address two common major problems in the study of time series characterizing fluctuations in complex systems: multifractal analysis and multifractal modeling. Specifically, we introduce a multi-fractal centered moving average (MF-CMA) analysis, which is computationally easier but equivalently performing compared with the well-established multi-fractal detrended fluctuation analysis (MF-DFA) with linear detrending. In addition, we study in detail a generalized binomial multi-fractal model (GB-MFM) to conveniently and reliably generate multifractal surrogate data with arbitrary singularity strengths and arbitrary long-term persistence. We use the data generated by this model as well as realistic, by construction monofractal data series with crossovers and trends to test and compare the multifractal analysis methods and discuss finite-size effects as well as limitations due to spurious multifractality.  相似文献

We study the performance of multifractal detrended fluctuation analysis (MF-DFA) applied to long-term correlated and multifractal data records in the presence of additive white noise, short-term memory and periodicities. Such additions and disturbances that can be typically found in the observational records of various complex systems ranging from climate dynamics to physiology, network traffic, and finance. In monofractal records, we find that (i) additive white noise hardly results in spurious multifractality, but causes underestimated generalized Hurst exponents h(q) for all q values; (ii) short-range correlations lead to pronounced crossovers in the generalized fluctuation functions Fq(s) at positions that decrease with increasing moment q, thus causing significantly overestimated h(q) for small q and spurious multifractality; (iii) periodicities like seasonal trends (with standard deviations comparable with the one of the studied process) result in spurious “reversed” multifractality where h(q) increases with increasing q (except for very short time windows). We also show that in multifractal cascades moderate additions of noise, short-range memory, or periodic trends cause flawed results for h(q) with q<2, while h(q) with q>2 remains nearly unchanged.  相似文献

We study an infinite horizon optimal stopping Markov problem which is either undiscounted (total reward) or with a general Markovian discount rate. Using ergodic properties of the underlying Markov process, we establish the feasibility of the stopping problem and prove the existence of optimal and εε-optimal stopping times. We show the continuity of the value function and its variational characterisation (in the viscosity sense) under different sets of assumptions satisfied by large classes of diffusion and jump–diffusion processes. In the case of a general discounted problem we relax a classical assumption that the discount rate is uniformly separated from zero.  相似文献

We construct degenerations of Mukai varieties and linear sections thereof to special unobstructed Fano Stanley–Reisner schemes corresponding to convex deltahedra. This can be used to find toric degenerations of rank one index one Fano threefolds. Furthermore, we show that the Stanley–Reisner ring of the boundary complex of the dual polytope of the associahedron has trivial \(T^2\) . This can be used to find new toric degenerations of linear sections of \(G(2,n)\) .  相似文献

In the present paper a Computational Aero Acoustics approach based on Lighthill's and Curle's Acoustic Analogies was implemented in OpenFOAM 2.1.1. The novel developed OpenFOAM application solvers acousticFoam and acousticRhoFoam can be used for transient incompressible and compressible simulations respectively. The CAA approach takes High Performance Computing environment into account and realize the computation of flow and acoustic fields within the acoustical near field on one mesh only.
