The mental organization of linguistic knowledge and its involvement in speech processing can be investigated using the mismatch negativity (MMN) component of the auditory event-related potential. A contradiction arises, however, between the technical need for strict control of acoustic stimulus properties and the quest for naturalness and acoustic variability of the stimuli. Here, two methods of preparing speech stimulus material were compared. Focussing on the automatic processing of a phonotactic restriction in German, two corresponding sets of various vowel-fricative syllables were used as stimuli. The former syllables were naturally spoken while the latter ones were created by means of cross-splicing. Phonetically, natural and spliced syllables differed with respect to the appropriateness of coarticulatory information about the forthcoming fricative within the vowels. Spliced syllables containing clearly misleading phonetic information were found to elicit larger N2 responses compared to their natural counterparts. Furthermore, MMN results found for the natural syllables could not be replicated with these spliced stimuli. These findings indicate that the automatic processing of the stimuli was considerably affected by the stimulus preparation method. Thus, in spite of its unquestioned benefits for MMN experiments, the splicing technique may lead to interference effects on the linguistic factors under investigation. 相似文献

This paper examines and compares two methods of improving the quality of three-dimensional beamforming with phased microphone arrays. The intended application is the detection of aerodynamic noise sources on wind turbines. Both methods employ Fourier based deconvolution. The first method involves a transformation of coordinates that tends to make the response to a point source, the point spread function, more shift invariant. The result is a significant improvement in sound source imaging in the transformed coordinate system. However, the inverse transformation to Cartesian coordinates introduces range dependent resolution limitations because of the irregular distribution of the focal points. The second method combines the transformation of coordinates with an alternative scanning technique. This method can be used in near field three-dimensional acoustic imaging to produce maps free of sidelobes and with constant resolution. The grafting of hydroxyapatite/beta-tricalcium phosphate with β-cyclodextrin was achieved using a two step reaction with (3-glycidyloxypropyl)trimethoxysilane as a linker. Firstly, the silane group was brought to react with the hydroxyl groups at the surface of the hydroxyapatite/beta-tricalcium phosphate and secondly, the epoxy group was brought to react with the β-cyclodextrin. The amount and distribution of covalently bound β-cyclodextrin were investigated by thermogravimetric analysis, colorimetric total sugar assay, fluorescence spectroscopy and confocal laser scanning microscopy. The concentration of grafted β-cyclodextrin was found to be approximately 3.5?μmol per gram of material corresponding to an almost complete surface coverage, when assuming a closed hexagonal packed monolayer. 相似文献

The ring-opening polymerization of lactides has been studied in bulk using either 2-ethylhexanoic acid tin(II) salt, Sn(Oct)2, or aluminum triisopropoxide, Al(OiPr)3, as the initiator over a wide range of temperature and monomer-to-initiator molar ratio. A high increase in the bulk polymerization rate has been observed when the initiator was added with an equimolar amount of a Lewis base, such as triphenylphosphine (P(φ)3) and 4-picoline (C6H7N) added to Sn(Oct)2 and Al(OiPr)3, respectively. Melt stable polylactides of high molecular weight and reasonably narrow molecular weight distribution have been accordingly prepared. The use of the Sn(Oct)2.P(φ)3 equimolar combination has allowed for reaching an acceptable balance between propagation and depolymerization rates, so that the polymerization is fast enough to be performed through a continuous single-stage process in a twin-screw extruder.
