The effect of the oxygen plasma treatment on the electronic states of multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) is analyzed by X-ray photoemission measurements (XPS) and UPS, both using synchrotron radiation. It is found that the plasma treatment effectively grafts oxygen at the CNT-surface. Thereafter, the interaction between evaporated Pd and pristine or oxygen plasma-treated MWCNTs is investigated. Pd is found to nucleate at defective sites, whether initially present or introduced by oxygen plasma treatment. The plasma treatment induced a uniform dispersion of Pd clusters at the CNT-surface. The absence of additional features in the Pd 3d and C 1s core levels spectra testifies that no Pd-C bond is formed. The shift of the Pd 3d core level towards high-binding energy for the smallest clusters is attributed to the Coulomb energy of the charged final state.  相似文献

A nonlinear model of an aircraft braking system is presented and used to investigate the effects of damping on the stability in Chevillot et al. (Arch Appl Mech 78(12):949–963, 2008). It has been shown that the addition of damping into the equations of motion does not lead systematically to the stabilization of the system. In the case of a mode-coupling instability, there is indeed an optimal ratio between the modal damping coefficients of the two modes in coalescence, that maximize the stable area. But the stable area is not a sufficient criterion. In dynamics, the amplitude of the vibrations and the transient behavior characterized by the speed of increase of the oscillations are best indicators. In this paper, the same nonlinear model of the aircraft braking system is used to compute time-history responses by integration of the full set of the nonlinear dynamic equations. The aim of the study is to evaluate the effects of damping on the nonlinear dynamics of the brake. It is shown that damping may be very efficient to significantly reduce and slow down the increase of the friction-induced vibrations. But, in the same way as for the stability area, there exists a value of the damping ratio that optimizes the effects of damping.  相似文献

Taking advantage of recent estimates, by one of us, of the critical temperature of the isotropic-ferroelectric transition of high density dipolar hard spheres, we performed new Monte Carlo simulations in the close vicinity of these estimates and applied histogram reweighting methods to obtain refined values of the critical temperatures from the crossing of the fourth-order cumulant for different system sizes. The ferroelectric line is determined in the density range rho*=0.80-0.95, and the onset of columnar ordering is located.  相似文献

Thermal growth of silicon oxide films on silicon carbide in O2 was investigated using oxygen isotopic substitution and narrow resonance nuclear reaction profiling. This investigation was carried out in parallel with the thermal growth of silicon oxide films on Si. Results demonstrate that the limiting steps of the thermal oxide growth are different in these two semiconductors, being diffusion limited in the case of Si and reaction limited in the case of SiC. This fact renders the growth kinetics of SiO2 on SiC very sensitive to the reactivity of the interface region, whose compositional and structural changes can affect the electrical properties of the structure.  相似文献

Brake squeal is referred to, in most publications, as a flutter instability triggered by a mode coupling phenomenon. A lot of clues tend to prove that damping would be a key parameter in brake squeal modelling. This study aims at investigating the effects of damping on coalescence patterns, that is to say on the way the modes couple. A finite element model of the whole brake corner has been used to compute the brake modal behaviour. Then a complex eigenvalue analysis has been undertaken to assess the brake stability as a function of the friction coefficient. Different kinds of damping spreading over the modes have been studied. Two main effects have been noticed: a shifting effect and a smoothing effect. The first one always stabilize the brake, whereas this is not the case of the second one. The combination of the two effects may make the brake more unstable depending on the spreading of the additionnal damping.  相似文献

In this paper, the quantification of uncertainty effects on the variability of the nonlinear response in rotor systems with multi-faults (such as unbalance, asymmetric shaft, bow, parallel and angular misalignments) is investigated. To take account of uncertainties in this kind of nonlinear problem, it is proposed to use the Harmonic Balance Method (HBM) with a polynomial chaos expansion (PCE). The efficiency and robustness of the proposed methodology is demonstrated by comparison with Monte Carlo simulations (MCS) for different kinds and levels of uncertainties.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to investigate the effects of the presence of a transverse crack in a rotating shaft under uncertain physical parameters in order to obtain some indications that might be useful in detecting the presence of a crack in rotating system. The random dynamic response of the cracked rotor is evaluated by expanding the changing stiffness of the crack (i.e. the breathing mechanism) as a random truncated Fourier series. To avoid the use of the Monte Carlo simulations (MCS), an alternative procedure that is based on a combination of the Harmonic Balance Method and the Stochastic Finite Element Method (SFEM) using the Polynomial Chaos Expansion (PCE) is proposed. So the response of the Fourier components of the cracked rotor is expanded in the polynomial chaoses. The random dynamic response obtained by applying this procedure is compared with that evaluated through numerical integration based on the Harmonic Balance Method and the Monte Carlo simulations.  相似文献

We present a formulation of the nanoscale radiative heat transfer using concepts of mesoscopic physics. We introduce the analog of the Sharvin conductance using the quantum of thermal conductance. The formalism provides a convenient framework to analyze the physics of radiative heat transfer at the nanoscale. Finally, we propose a radiative heat transfer experiment in the regime of quantized conductance.  相似文献

A well-defined, double-hydrophilic diblock copolymer comprising poly[2-(methacryloyloxy)ethyl phosphorylcholine]-block-(glycerol monomethacrylate) (PMPC30-PGMA30, where the numbers represent the average degrees of polymerization for each block) was evaluated for the synthesis of colloidally stable ultrafine magnetite sols. Sterically stabilized paramagnetic sols were prepared in aqueous solution by chemical coprecipitation of ferric and ferrous salts in the presence of this block copolymer. The PMPC30-PGMA30-stabilized magnetite sol had a mean transmission electron microscopy (TEM) diameter of 9.4 +/- 1.7 nm and a mean hydrodynamic diameter of 34 nm. This sol exhibited improved colloidal stability with respect to long-term storage and pH variation compared with magnetite sols prepared in the presence of alternative water-soluble homopolymers and diblock copolymers. Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, thermogravimetry, electron spectroscopy imaging (ESI), and zeta potential studies indicate that the PMPC30-PGMA30 diblock copolymer was adsorbed onto the surface of the sol via the PGMA30 block, with the PMPC30 chains acting as the stabilizing block. Such sterically stabilized sols are expected to be improved contrast agents for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) applications.  相似文献

We show that a photonic crystal film can emit coherent thermal radiation. We demonstrate the key role of leaky waves existing at the air-photonic crystal interface. The frequency and direction of emission depend on the lattice parameters. This paves the way towards the design of coherent infrared antennas.  相似文献
