Immobilization of catalase on membranes of poly(ethylene)-g-co-acrylic acid and poly(tetrafluoroethylene)-g-co-acrylic acid and their application in hydrogen peroxide electrochemical sensors

The immobilization of catalase on grafted membranes of poly(ethylene)-g-co-acrylic acid and poly(tetrafluoroethylene)-g-co-acrylic acid and their application in hydrogen peroxide electrochemical sensors is described. The introduction of carboxylic acid groups onto a hydrophobic support provides a good environment for subsequent enzyme immobilization. This single membrane, hydrogen peroxide sensor showed significant improvement with respect to the double membrane versions. The response is very rapid, the linear range being from 10 μM up to 6 mM, with a detection limit of 4.7 μM, and a lifetime of more than 4 months.     

Step-strain deformations for viscoelastic fluids: Formulation of a strain-coupling constitutive equation

An integral constitutive equation which includes strain-coupling effects is proposed. The constitutive equation is more general than the K-BKZ equation, and it is shown that this equation can explain various important aspects of double-step stress-relaxation data.     

The evolution of the viscoelastic retardation spectrum during the development of an epoxy resin network

The evolution of the viscoelastic behavior of an epoxy resin at various stages of curing has been followed with the changes in the retardation spectrum. The creep J(t) and recoverable creep compliance J_r(t) curves of the neat epoxy resin Epon l00lF (Shell) were determined at temperatures between 30 and 77°C. The viscosity decreased over 8 orders of magnitude as the temperature was increased. Specimens with eight stages of network development were prepared by reacting all of the epoxy resin's oxirane rings with amine hydrogens from varying ratios of a monofunctional amine (methyl aniline) and a tetrafunctional amine 4,4′-diamino diphenyl sulfone (DDS). Preparations in which 25, 35, and 40% DDS were used did not result in a molecular network, so they were viscoelastic liquids. With 45% DDS, the product had a nascent network and was judged to be just beyond the point of incipient gelation. The remaining preparations from 0.50, 0.60, 0.70, and 1.0 DDS yielded tighter less compliant molecular networks. The creep and recoverable compliance curves were measured over a range of temperatures above the glass transition temperature, T_g. They were reduced to T_g, and retardation spectra L(ln τ) were calculated.     

On the reconstruction index of permutation groups: semiregular groups

Summary. The reconstruction index of all semiregular permutation groups is determined. We show that this index satisfies 3 ￡ r(G, W) ￡ 5 3 \leq \rho(G, \Omega) \leq 5 and we classify the groups in each case.     

Mössbauer study of small amounts of iron in graphite,around the diamond-graphite pressure-temperature stability region

An exploratory Mössbauer spectroscopy study of the Fe-C system in the C rich region, prepared by high pressure-high temperature treatment near the graphite-diamond stability line, was made. The results obtained for the different processing conditions give no evidence of Fe intercalation in graphite. The presence of some water in the cell produced hydrated Fe complexes, which can explain the deleterious effect of water or hydrogen in the high pressure diamond synthesis.     

STABLE DOUBLE LR ALGORITHM AND ITS ERROR ANALYSIS

In this paper, the normative matrices and their double LR transformation with origin shifts are defined, and the essential relationship between the double LR transformation of a normative matrix and the QR transformation of the related symmetric tridiagonal matrix is proved. We obtain a stable double LR algorithm for double LR transformation of normative matrices and give the error analysis of our algorithm. The operation number of the stable double LR algorithm for normative matrices is only four sevenths of the rational QR algorithm for reed symmetric tridiagonal matrices.     

Improved quantitation of 13-cis- and all-trans-acitretin in human plasma by normal-phase high-performance liquid chromatography.

A reliable analytical method has been developed for measurement of 13-cis- and all-trans-acitretin (Neotigason) in human plasma by normal-phase high-performance liquid chromatography, with ultraviolet detection. Human plasma was obtained after centrifugation of whole blood samples and deproteinized by ethanolic denaturation. After liquid-liquid extraction with water-n-hexane, and aliquot ws chromatographed on a silica column using isocratic elution with n-hexane-methylsalicylate-acetic acid (200:18:0.6, v/v). The wavelength was set at 360 nm, and for plasma samples a limit of quantification of 3-4 ng/ml was obtained. All manipulations were carried out under dim light conditions to prevent photoisomerization.
