Syntheses of N-silylformamidines by the hydrosilylation of carbodiimides

The hydrosilylation of carbodiimides was found to proceed at higher temperatures in the presence of catalytic amounts of palladium chloride or tris-(triphenylphosphine)chlororhodium to afford N-silylformamidines in high yield. These were found to be good precursors to formamidines and N-acetyl-formamidines.     

A method for reproducible preparation of chiral polysiloxanes with regular repeat units as stationary phases for capillary gas chromatography

Trifluoroethyl ester-functionalized polysiloxanes can be prepared by block condensation of 3-dichloromethylsilyl-2-methylpropionic acid 2′,2′,2′-trifluoroethyl ester with 1,5-bis(diethylamino)hexamethyltrisiloxane or with disodium tetramethyldisiloxane-1,3-diolate. The functionalized polysiloxanes may serve as supports for a variety of selector groups; for instance, nucleophilic displacements with L-valine-t-butylamide or L-α-naphthylethylamine lead to chiral polysiloxanes in high yields and with high reproducibility. Imidazole accelerates the rate of nucleophilic displacement. Capillary columns coated with such chiral polysiloxanes exhibit high enantioselectivity and thermostability.     

Structures of two oxidation products obtained from palytoxin

The structures of two oxidation products of N-(p-bromobenzoyl)palytoxin were unambiguously determined by means of X-ray crystallographic analysis.     

Status of the laser-microwave spectroscopy experiment for the hyperfine structure of 7Be

In order to investigate the nuclear magnetic moments and the magnetization distributions in the unstable nuclei of ^7,11Be, laser-microwave spectroscopy experiments using an ion-trap are under progress at IPNS, KEK-Tanashi. Status of the experiment for the first unstable isotope ⁷Be is reported. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.

The structural elucidation of palytoxin is reported.     

Carrier density dependence of soft TO-phonon in SnTe by Raman scattering

The frequency of soft TO-phonon in SnTe was observed by Raman scattering below the transition temperature, for the specimens of various carrier concentrations. The result was analyzed in terms of the interband electron to TO-phonon interaction.

Synthesis of 1,3-Disubstituted Adamantanes. A series of new 1-substituted 3-bromoadamantanes has been prepared. An improved method for the formation of cyclopropanes from olefins with diazomethane and copper salts is described.
