Carbonylation reaction Communication 11. Carbonylation of amino alcohols and some cyclic amines with carbon monoxide in the presence of mercuric acetate

Conclusions Primary amino alcohols react with CO in the presence of mercuric acetate at 100–200° and a pressure of 100–150 atm to give the corresponding N-(hydroxyalkyl)formamides in a yield of 1.4–2.5 M/M of reacted Hg(OCOCH₂)₃. Morpholine under analogous conditions forms the corresponding formyl derivative and the urea derivative in a 1.2–51 ratio, while cyclohexylamine forms the same derivatives in an 0.7 1 ratio.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Seriya Khimicheskaya, No. 7, pp. 1533–1536, July, 1973.     

Sorption of butane, propane, ethane, methane, and carbon dioxide on asphaltene

Isotherms of sorption of butane, propane, ethane, methane, and carbon dioxide on an asphaltene sample of known elemental composition were measured. The effect of the pressure and temperature on the shape the sorption isotherms for all the adsorption systems studied was examined. The values of the initial heat of sorption were determined and compared to the energies of interaction of the molecules with asphaltene. The results obtained suggest that asphaltene is a swellable amorphous sorbent.     

Chemistry of indole

5-Methoxy-3-carbethoxyindoles are nitrated primarily in the 4 position. Replacement of the methoxy group by an acetoxy group leads to a change in orientation — only the 6 isomer is obtained. In the case of the similarly constructed 5-hydroxyindoles, monosubstitution cannot be accomplished under various conditions, and only the 4,6-dinitro derivative is formed. EPR spectra of halogenonitromethane anion radicals

Reaction of 2-methylene-3-oxoquinuclidine with nucleophilic reagents

The salts and quaternary derivatives of 2-methylene-3-hydroxyquinuclidine readily add nucleophilic reagents because of the high polarity and polarizability of the carbon-carbon double bond, which are due to the overall electron-acceptor effect of the positively charged nitrogen atom and the carbonyl group. Hydrosilylation of N-allylpyrrolidine and N-allylpiperidine
