Structural, magnetic properties and photoemission study of Ni-doped ZnO

Nickel-doped ZnO (Zn_1−xNi_xO) have been produced using rf magnetron sputtering. X-ray diffraction measurements revealed that nickel atoms were successfully incorporated into ZnO host matrix without forming any detectable secondary phase. Ni 2p core-level photoemission spectroscopy confirmed this result and suggested Ni has a chemical valence of 2+. According to the magnetization measurements, no ferromagnetic but paramagnetic behavior was found for Zn_0.86Ni_0.14O. We studied the electronic structure of Zn_0.86Ni_0.14O by valence-band photoemission spectroscopy. The spectra demonstrate a structure at ∼2 eV below the Fermi energy E_F, which is of Ni 3d origin. No emission was found at E_F, suggesting the insulating nature of the film.     

Dendritic cells: In the forefront of immunopathogenesis and vaccine development – A review

Dendritic cellls (DCs) comprise an essential component of the immune system. These cells, as antigen presenting cells (APCs) to na?ve T cells, are crucial in the initiation of antigen specific immune responses. In the past years, several DC subsets have been identified in different organs which exert different effects in order to elicit adaptive immune responses. Thus, identification of such DC subsets has led to a better understanding of their distribution and function in the body. In this review, several key properties of the immunobiology, immunopathogenesis and vaccine strategies using DCs will be discussed.     

The ALTO project at IPN-Orsay

The availability of both a tandem deuteron beam and a linac electron beam, the latter converted into Bremsstrahlung, at the new ALTO facility at IPN-Orsay offers a unique opportunity to compare the performance of a laser ion guide under different regimes. The ALTO accelerator has delivered its first electron beam at the end of 2005 and a design for a gas-cell prototype is being studied.     

1‐Acetyl‐3′‐(4‐bromophenyl)‐3′‐chlorospiro[3H‐indole‐3,2′‐oxetan]‐2(1H)‐one

In the title compound, C₁₈H₁₃BrClNO₃, the heterocyclic ring of the indole is distorted from planarity towards an envelope conformation. The orientations of the indole, oxetane, chloro and bromo­phenyl substituents are conditioned by the sp³ states of the spiro‐junction and the Cl‐attached C atoms.     

Ungewöhnliche Bildung und Struktur eines O‐Sulfinato‐Zinkkomplexes

Unusual Formation and Structure of a O‐Sulfinato Zinc Complex Whereas the reaction between hydrotris[(N‐xylyl)‐thioimidazolyl]borato‐zinc perchlorate ([ L· Zn‐OClO₃]) and ethanethiolate under an inert atmosphere leads to the thiolate complex [ L· Zn‐SC₂H₅], the same reaction in air produces the sulfinato complex [ L· Zn‐O‐S(O)‐C₂H₅] ( 1 ). 1 is the first fully characterized sulfinato‐zinc complex. Its structure determination has confirmed the unusual coordination of the sulfinato ligand via one of its oxygen atoms.     

Gas-phase thermolysis of thieno[3,2-e][1,2,4]triazines. Interesting routes towards heterocyclic ring systems

Gas-phase thermolysis of thieno[3,2-e][1,2,4]triazines gave benzonitrile, isothiazole, pyrimidine, [1]benzothieno[2,3-d]pyrimidine and thieno[3,2-d]thiazole derivatives. A mechanism of these pyrolytic transformation was proposed. Two new and efficient syntheses of the starting thieno[3,2-e][1,2,4]triazines were reported.     

Syntheses and Structures of Heterometallic Fe–Ta Chalcogenido Clusters

Two Fe–Ta containing sulfido complexes were prepared by the reaction of the metal halide salts with bis-trimethylsilylsulfide in the presence of PMe₃. The complexes demonstrate that coordination chemistry with iron sulfides can give access to a range of heterometallic complexes. In [Cl(Me₃P)Ta( ₂-S)₂( ₃-S)Fe(PMe₃)₂]₂ the two [Cl(Me₃P)Ta] units are arranged around one central Fe₂( ₂-S)₂ unit. In [(Me₃P)₄(MeCN)₂Fe^II]²⁺[(Me₃P)₂Ta^IVFe^II ₃( ₃-S)₄Br₄]^2– a [TaFe₃S₄]²⁺ cuboidal arrangement was observed. The complex salt forms a polymeric structure in the solid-state with weak H-bonds between the ions. The [(Me₃P)₂Ta^IVFe^II ₃( ₃-S)₄Br₄]^2– ion was characterised by magnetic measurements showing strong antiferromagnetic interactions between the metal centres.     

Dielectric relaxation of polystyrene with side-chain- and chain-end-labels

Polystyrenes with different concentrations of side groups with cyano groups were prepared and complex dielectric constants were measured in the range of the glass transition temperature and the frequency range of 10^–2–10⁷ Hz.The GPC and DSC measurements showed that the molecular weight of these polystyrenes was about 10500 g/mole and the glass transition temperatures were 89.5°C for all samples.The dielectric relaxation spectra obtained for the side group polystyrene labels and also the chain-end polystyrene labels prepared before [9] were analyzed to find out the degree of coupling of the chain-end and side-group labels with the cooperative reorientation of the polymeric matrix. The analysis of the spectra was carried out using the analysis method developed by Mansour and Stoll [6].The results obtained showed that both end- and side-group labels are strongly coupled with the segmental reorientation and relax with relaxation times longer than that of the segments.The value of logf _m = (logf _m(label)) – logf _m(matrix)) was obtained from the recently designed comparison diagram suggested by Mansour and Stoll [6, 14]. The value of logf _m depends on the label length in the case of chain-end labels.It was surprising to find that the side groups relax slower than the segments by only 0.9 decades. These results obtained implied that the label relaxes through a multistep relaxation mechanism of the side and end groups and not through a diffusion mechanism of the whole chain. In addition, the effective lengths of the relaxing units were determined using the empirical equation obtained before in the case of rodlike molecules in polyisoprene [7].
