On a New Non-Geometric Element in Gravity

In this essay a generalized notion of flavor-oscillation clocks is introduced. The generalization contains the element that various superimposed mass eigenstates may have different relative orientation of the component of their spin with respect to the rotational axis of the gravitational source. It is found that these quantum mechanical clocks do not always redshift identically when moved from the gravitational environment of a non-rotating source to the field of a rotating source. The non-geometric contributions to the redshifts may be interpreted as quantum mechanically induced fluctuations over a geometric structure of space-time.     

Universal elementary constituents of potential transformations shifting waves (qualitative theory)

It is shown that the potential perturbation that shifts a chosen standing wave in space is a block of potential barrier and well for every wave bump between neighbouring knots. The algorithms shifting the range of the primary localization of a chosen bound state in a potential well of finite width are as well applicable to the scattering functions if states of the continuous spectrum are considered as bound states normalized to unity but distributed on an infinite interval with vanishing density. The potential perturbations of the same type on the half-axis concentrate the scattering wave at the origin, thus creating a bound state embedded into the continuous spectrum (zero width resonance).     

Generation of mesoscopic magnetic structures by local laser action

New effects are observed wherein the internal structure of the domain walls in a thin magnetic iron garnet film are modified by the action of focused laser radiation. A single laser pulse with increasing power gives rise to the following: 1) displacement of vertical Bloch lines in a domain wall; 2) generation of a pair of vertical Bloch lines on initially line-free walls; and, 3) an irreversible change in shape of a domain wall and the domain structure as a whole. The mechanism leading to the generation and displacement of Bloch lines is connected with the motion of domain walls which is induced by a local change in the distribution of demagnetizing fields as a result of a heating-induced decrease of the magnetization in the focal spot of the laser radiation. Self-energy correction to the hyperfine splitting of the 1 s and 2 s states in hydrogenlike ions

The one-loop self-energy correction to the hyperfine splitting of the 1 s and 2 s states of hydrogenlike ions is calculated for both point and finite nuclei. The results of the calculation are combined with other corrections to find the ground state hyperfine splitting in lithiumlike ²⁰⁹Bi⁸⁰⁺ and ¹⁶⁵Ho⁶⁴⁺. Pis’ma Zh. éksp. Teor. Influence of radiation on thin ZnS-Tb films

Changes in thin zinc-sulfide films under the action of the γ-radiation of Co⁶⁰ are studied by investigating electroluminescence spectra of terbium embedded in these films as a luminescent probe. It is shown that changes in the relation of the intensities of bands, a decrease in their halfwidth and the background component, and simplification of the spectrum are observed in a short-wave region of the Tb radiation spectrum that corresponds to⁵D₃→⁷F_j transitions. The same modification of the radiation spectrum is characteristic of ZnS films whose crystalline structure is ordered in the course of thermal annealing at a temperature of 350°C. Based on the analysis of the data obtained it is inferred that irradiating the ZnS films with small radiation doses of 10⁴–10⁵ rad leads to the ordering of their crystalline structure due to the elimination of one of the types of structural defects. Mössbauer, X-ray, electrical and magnetic properties of lithium borosilicate glasses containing iron and manganese Part I. Mössbauer measurements

The effect of the replacement of MnO₂ by Fe₂O₃ on the oxidation states of iron in some lithium borosilicate glasses were studied using Mössbauer spectroscopy. DTA and infrared measurements showed the presence of two glassy phases, one of them containing iron and the other manganese. The Mössbauer spectra were measured at room temperature for all the glass samples. The spectra revealed the presence of Fe ions only in ferric state in both tetrahedral and octahedral coordination. Also, it was observed that the ratio between the number of iron ions in both coordination states has not changed with the increase of MnO₂ content.     

Analytic solutions of the Schrödinger equation for the modified quartic oscillator

No analytic solutions of the Schrödinger equation are known for the quartic anharmonic oscillator. We show in this paper that there are closely related modified quartic oscillators with the potential depending on |x| for which analytic solutions for some states exist. These results can be extended to the higher order oscillators     

Resonance enhancement of diffuse scattering of x-rays in a waveguide heterostructure

The diffuse scattering of x rays in a four-layer waveguide-type heterostructure is investigated. The dynamic enhancement of diffuse scattering is detected experimentally in regions corresponding to the excitation of waveguide modes for both the incident and scattered waves. Pis’ma Zh. éksp.
