Rational functions of best uniform approximation and holomorphic continuation of functions

Let f be a function, continuous and real valued on the segment Δ, Δ ⊂ (−∞, ∞) and {R_n} be the sequence of the rational functions of best uniform approximation to f on Δ of order (n, n). In the present work, the convergence of {R_n} in the complex plane is considered for the special caseswhen the poles (or the zeros, respectively) of {R_n} accumulate in the terms of weak convergence of measures to acompact set of zero capacity. As a consequence, sufficient conditions for the holomorphic and the meromorphic continuability of f are given. Investigation by ellipsometry of the damage in GaAs bombarded with low-energy Ar ions

The crystalline-amorphous transition in GaAs induced by Ar ions (energy 1–3 keV) has been investigated using single-wavelength ellipsometry. The experiments have been performed in-situ at room temperature. Ion damage straggling, amorphization threshold and critical energy density have been derived by means of a simple analytical model for the growth of the amorphous layer. This model is discussed and the corresponding calculations are found to be in satisfactory agreement with experimental data.     

One-loop divergences of linear gravity with torsion terms

We investigate the role of the torsion field at the quantum level. One-loop counterterms are calculated in the theory with terms quadratic in the torsion field. We have shown that the theory is finite at the one-loop level.     

Bases of free metabelian and transmetabelian groups

A definition of the basis of a group written in additive form is given based on P. Hall's collecting process. Comparative kinetics of phospholipase A2 action on liposomes and monolayers of phosphatidylcholine spread at the air-water interface

A detailed kinetic model describing the surface transformation of spread liposomes along with their enzymatic hydrolysis was developed. The model was applied to the hydrolysis of the long-chain phosphatidylcholine generating reaction products which remain at the interface and to medium-chain substrates from which the products desorb rapidly into the bulk phase. The overall kinetic constants of the hydrolysis in liposomal systems were compared with those obtained with monolayers under barostatic conditions. The values of the interfacial Michaelis-Menten constant were estimated.     

Application of129Xe 2D-EXSY NMR to intra- and interparticle exchange in zeolites

2D-EXSY NMR methods were used to explore diffusion between different domains in zeolites on two very different length scales. Measurements were made on xenon-containing samples consisting of a mixture of NaX and NaY zeolite particles which give distinct resonance lines. The cross peaks observed were interpreted in terms of interparticle exchange, and exchange rates were measured as a function of particle size. This kind of experiment with a length scale of microns to mm should be useful in model studies of diffusion in packed catalyst beds. Measurements also were made to study exchange on a much smaller length scale between the main-channel and side-pocket sites in samples of microcrystalline Na-mordenite. Exchange rates and site occupancies were measured as a function of temperature, yielding activation energies for xenon desorption and intersite diffusion. Also, information was obtained on the distribution of inequivalent side-pocket sites which leads to the large xenon NMR linewidths for this type of site.     

On the correctness of a linear closure of set of recognition algorithms of the decision tree type

A recognition operator of the decision tree type is proposed in this paper that is used for the canonical representation of a recognition algorithm, and a theorem is proved about the correctness of the linear closure of a class of incorrect recognition algorithms based on the construction of decision trees.Translated from Dinamicheskie Sistemy, No. 5, pp. 91–94, 1986.
