A relativistically intense femtosecond laser pulse propagating in a plasma channel undergoes dramatic photon deceleration while propagating a distance on the order of a dephasing length. The deceleration of photons is localized to the back of the pulse and is accompanied by compression and explosive growth of the ponderomotive potential. Fully explicit particle-in-cell simulations are applied to the problem and are compared with ponderomotive guiding center simulations. A numerical Wigner transform is used to examine local frequency shifts within the pulse and to suggest an experimental diagnostic of plasma waves inside a capillary.  相似文献

Reported are studies by LEED and Auger spectroscopy of silver layers electrodeposited on well-characterized Pt(111) surfaces from aqueous solution. Prior to electrodeposition. the Pt(111) surface was treated with I2 vapor to form the Pt(111) (7 × 7)R19.1°-I superlattice which protected the Pt and Ag surfaces from attack by the electrolyte and residual gases. Electrodeposition of silver occurred in four distinct ranges of electrode potential. Ordered layers having (3 × 3) and (18 × 18) (coincidence lattice) LEED patterns were formed at all coverages from the onset of deposition to the highest coverages studied, about twenty equivalent atomic layers. Formation of ordered Ag layers has therefore been demonstrated, at least for deposits of limited thickness. Auger spectra revealed that for deposits of a few atomic layers. The iodine layer remained attached to the surface during multiple cycles of electrodeposition and dissolution of silver from iodine-free solution. Each peak of the voltammetric current-potential scan produced a change in the LEED pattern.  相似文献

The kinetic salt effect on the oxidation of bromide ion by bromate have been studied. It is concluded that the salt effects are the result of ion-solvent interactions and seem to be connected not only to the strength of these interactions, as measured by the lowering of solvent activity, but also by the structural characteristics of ion-solvent interactions. This conclusion is based on the use of Pitzer's treatment to estimate the activity coefficients.  相似文献

A novel scintillating-fiber sensor for detecting high-energy beta particles has been designed and built at the Pacific Northwest Laboratory to characterize238U and90Sr in surface soils. High-energy betas generate unique signals as they pass through multiple layers of scintillating fibers that make up the active region of the detector. Lower-energy beta particles, gamma rays, and cosmic-ray-generated particles comprise the majority of the background interferences. The resulting signals produced by these latter phenomena are effectively discriminated against due to the combination of the sensor's multi-layer configuration and its interlayer coincidence/anti-coincidence circuitry.  相似文献
