This study was designed to measure the relative contributions to speech intelligibility of spectral envelope peaks (including, but not limited to formants) versus the detailed shape of the spectral envelope. The problem was addressed by asking listeners to identify sentences and nonsense syllables that were generated by two structurally identical source-filter synthesizers, one of which constructs the filter function based on the detailed spectral envelope shape while the other constructs the filter function using a purposely coarse estimate that is based entirely on the distribution of peaks in the envelope. Viewed in the broadest terms the results showed that nearly as much speech information is conveyed by the peaks-only method as by the detail-preserving method. Just as clearly, however, every test showed some measurable advantage for spectral detail, although the differences were not large in absolute terms.  相似文献

Summary In this paper we derive error estimates for infinite element method used in the approximation of solutions of interface problems. Furthermore, approximations of stress intensity factors are given. The infinite element method may be considered as a certain scheme of mesh refinement, but it has the advantages that the refinement is easy to be constructed that the stiffness matrix can be calculated efficiently, and that an approximate solution which has a singularity at the singular point can be also obtained.  相似文献

When highly concentrated, an antibody solution can exhibit unusual behaviors, which can lead to unwanted properties, such as increased levels of protein aggregation and unusually high viscosity. Molecular modeling, along with many indirect biophysical measurements, has suggested that the cause for these phenomena can be due to short range electrostatic and/or hydrophobic protein–protein interactions. Hydrogen/deuterium exchange mass spectrometry (HDX-MS) is a useful tool for investigating protein conformation, dynamics, and interactions. However, “traditional” continuous dilution labeling HDX-MS experiments have limited utility for the direct analysis of solutions with high concentrations of protein. Here, we present a dialysis-based HDX-MS (di-HDX-MS) method as an alternative HDX-MS labeling format, which takes advantage of passive dialysis rather than the classic dilution workflow. We applied this approach to a highly concentrated antibody solution without dilution or significant sample manipulation, prior to analysis. Such a method could pave the way for a deeper understanding of the unusual behavior of proteins at high concentrations, which is highly relevant for development of biopharmaceuticals in industry.

In scientific applications from plasma to chemical kinetics, a wide range of temporal scales can present in a system of differential equations. A major difficulty is encountered due to the stiffness of the system and it is required to develop fast numerical schemes that are able to access previously unattainable parameter regimes. In this work, we consider an initial-final value problem for a multi-scale singularly perturbed system of linear ordi- nary differential equations with discontinuous coefficients. We construct a tailored finite point method, which yields approximate solutions that converge in the maximum norm, uniformly with respect to the singular perturbation parameters, to the exact solution. A parameter-uniform error estimate in the maximum norm is also proved. The results of numerical experiments, that support the theoretical results, are reported.  相似文献

Intercalates of o-, m-, and p-toluidine into α-Zr(HPO4)2 · H2O were prepared and characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis and infrared spectroscopy. As follows from IR, toludine molecules are protonated in the interlayer space. Toluidine molecules are arranged in a bimolecular way in the intercalates containing more than 1.5 toluidine molecules per Zr atom. On the other hand, a monolayer of the toluidine molecules is supposed in the intercalates with less than one toluidine molecule per Zr atom.  相似文献

The use of fossil fuels has caused serious environmental problems such as air pollution and the greenhouse effect. Moreover, because fossil fuels are a non-renewable energy source, they cannot meet the continuously increasing demand for energy. Therefore, the development of clean and renewable energy sources is necessitated. Hydrogen energy is a clean, non-polluting renewable energy source that can ease the energy pressure of the whole society. The sunlight received by the Earth is 1.7× 1014 J in 1 s, which far exceeds the total energy consumption of humans in one year. Therefore, conversion of solar energy to valuable hydrogen energy is of significance for reducing the dependence on fossil fuels. Since Fujishima and Honda first reported on TiO2 in 1972, it has been discovered that semiconductors can generate clean, pollution-free hydrogen through water splitting driven by electricity or light. Hydrogen generated through this approach can not only replace fossil fuels but also provide environmentally friendly renewable hydrogen energy, which has attracted considerable attention. Photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting can use solar energy to produce clean, sustainable hydrogen energy. Because the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) over a photoanode is sluggish, the overall energy conversion efficiency is considerably low, limiting the practical application of PEC water splitting. A cocatalyst is, thus, necessary to improve PEC water splitting performance. So far, the synthesis of first-row transition-metal-based (e.g., Fe, Co, Ni, and Mn) cocatalysts has been intensively studied. Iron is earth-abundant and less toxic than other transition metals, making it a good cocatalyst. In addition, iron-based compounds exhibit the properties of a semiconductor/metal and have unique electronic structures, which can improve electrical conductivity and water adsorption. Various iron-based catalysts with high activity have been designed to improve the efficiency of PEC water oxidation. This article briefly summarizes the research progress related to the structure, synthesis, and application of iron oxyhydroxides, iron-based layered double hydroxides, and iron-based perovskites and discusses the evaluation of the performance of these cocatalysts toward photoelectrochemical water oxidation.   相似文献

Biomolecular homochirality, the origin of which is still a puzzle, has challenged scientists to design chemical systems that provide chiral molecules through absolute asymmetric synthesis and to amplify a small stereochemical bias in such systems. The photoresolution of the enantiomers of helical-shaped, sterically overcrowded alkene 1 with circularly polarized light and the transduction of the stereochemical information by triggering the helical arrangement of a large collection of achiral molecules in a twisted nematic liquid crystalline phase (2) are examples of control and amplification of chirality.  相似文献

Various liquid chromatographic methods used in the analysis of mycotoxins (zearalenone, trichothecenes and fumonisins) produced by Fusarium species were compared in this work. The results demonstrate the suitability of modern clean-up procedures employing multifunctional MycoSep and immunoaffinity columns although these methods are more expensive than conventional methodologies for clean-up. HPLC with both fluorescence and photodiode array detection is a suitable technique for the analysis of toxic secondary metabolites produced by Fusarium species; different derivatisation strategies have been studied to improve the sensitivity of the technique because of the low concentration of these metabolites in contaminated food. The utility of the proposed methodology was assessed in cereal cultures of various Fusarium strains.  相似文献
