Azobenzene side-chain liquid crystalline polyester structures suitable for permanent optical storage are described. The synthesis and characterization of the polyesters together with differential scanning calorimetry and X-ray investigations are discussed. Optical anisotropic investigations and holographic storage in one particular polyester are described in detail and polarized Fourier transform infrared spectroscopic data complementing the optical data are presented. Optical and atomic force microscope investigations point to a laser-induced aggregation as responsible for permanent optical storage.  相似文献

One can define “intelligent” polymers as those polymers which respond with large property changes to small physical or chemical stimuli. These polymers may be in various forms, such as in solution, on surfaces, or as solids. One may also combine “intelligent” aqueous polymer systems with biomolecules, to yield a large family of polymers which respond “intelligently” to physical, chemical or biological stimuli. Three carrageenans derived from red algae and three partially modified carrageenans were tested for their ability to inhibit the formation of new blood capillaries on the chorionallantois membrane of the hen egg. Isotope shifts are a well-established tool for structural analysis by NMR. The substitution of a protium with a deuterium is the most widely studied of these effects. However, such studies call for specific deuteration that requires complex synthetic techniques owing to the low natural abundance of deuterium. 13C occurs at a higher natural abundance and couples strongly with its attached proton. We have developed and refined a method to reliably observe these much smaller shifts without needing to resort to chemical synthesis. A 3He NMR resonance of C606- containing He is assigned to He2@C606-, thus showing that C60 can also accommodate two helium atoms. The ratio of the di-helium compound relative to the mono- is 1:200, 10 times lower than the equivalent counterpart of C70. The 3He NMR chemical shift of He2@C606- is 0.093 ppm downfield from the already known resonance of He@C606-. In the reduced endohedral mono- and di-helium C70, the 3He NMR chemical shift of He2@C706- is 0.154 ppm upfield from the peak of He@C706-.  相似文献

Amphipathic polymers ("amphipols") were introduced several years ago (Tribet, C.; Audebert, R.; Popot, J.-L. Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. U.S.A. 1996, 93, 15047-15050) as an alternative method for solubilizing integral membrane proteins in stable, nativelike conformations. However, direct maintenance of full membrane protein functionality in amphipol solutions has not previously been demonstrated in the absence of added lipid or detergent. In this contribution, the first zwitterionic amphipol "PMAL-B-100" is introduced. PMAL-B-100 not only maintains membrane protein structure and solubility, but also supports the full catalytic activity of an integral membrane enzyme, diacylglycerol kinase, in the complete absence of additional lipid or detergent. All of the roles which a lipid bilayer normally plays in maintaining diacylglycerol kinase's structure and in facilitating catalysis are satisfied by the environment and interactions supplied by PMAL-B-100.  相似文献

A magnetic mirror (mirror ratio 2.38:1) containing ECRH generated hydrogen plasma, with a density of 5 x 1010 cm-3 with cold electron temperature of 11 eV, was used to study propagation of an artificially launched wave varying as ej(?t + m? - kz) at approximately the ion cyclotron frequency. The wave was transmitted between two similar internally placed helically wound antennas separated by 11 wavelengths. The coupling between them was enhanced by as much as 50 times in the presence of plasma. The m = 1 left-handed component was cut off when ? > ?ci. Electron temperatures could be increased by more than 2 times with the m = 1 mode, presumably due to ion heating. Little pump-out was observed.  相似文献
