This article describes a comprehensive literature review of liquid entrainment in horizontal pipes with vertical-up branches. Deficiencies in the available data and correlations were identified. The Air–water Test Loop for Advanced Thermal–hydraulic Studies (ATLATS) was constructed and entrainment onset and steady-state data were collected for a wide range of flow conditions. Using new insights gained from experimental testing, the authors developed a model for predicting the onset of entrainment and steady-state entrainment rate. Previously published correlations, along with the new model, are compared against all available data. The new model shows very good agreement with the onset data, but is not very good at predicting branch quality at high liquid flow rates. 相似文献

Luminescence characteristics of a number of undoped and variously doped PbWO4 crystals were studied at 0.4–400 K by the time-resolved spectroscopy and compared with those of ZnWO4,CdWO4 and PbMoO4 crystals. Two types of green emission centres are detected in PbWO4 crystals. The centres of the first type are responsible for the low-temperature 2.3–2.4 eV emission observed under excitation around 3.90–3.95 eV. The structure and parameters of their relaxed excited states were determined. It was concluded that the origin of defects responsible for the green emission of the first type could vary for different crystals. The centres of the second type with the emission around 2.5 eV appear in crystals containing oxygen vacancies after the thermal destruction of Pb+-WO3 centres at T>180 K. Decomposition of the exciton and various defect-related states was also studied, and activation energies of this process were calculated. 相似文献

Photoconductivity spectra of rare earth-doped insulating materials are measured using the resonant microwave cavity method. This technique is based on the detection of the cavity Q-factor changes induced by irradiation of the sample (inserted in the cavity) by a pulsed tunable laser. Results obtained with Lu2(SiO4)O:Ce3+ and BaF2:Eu2+ are presented and discussed. Photoionization thresholds at 400 nm (3.1 eV) and 310 nm (4.0 eV) are measured for Lu2(SiO4)O:Ce3+ and BaF2:Eu2+, respectively. 相似文献

The glow curve structures for LiF:Mg,Cu,Na,Si TL detectors with various dopant concentrations and sintering temperatures were investigated for the improvement of the glow curve structure and sensitivity of the TL detector. The dopant concentrations were varied over the following ranges: Mg (0–0.25 mol%), Cu (0–0.07 mol%), Na and Si (0–1.5 mol%). With increasing Cu concentration, the intensity of the main peak was intensified and reached a maximum at a concentration of 0.05 mol%. The high-temperature peak was reduced. The dependency of the main peak intensity on the Mg concentration exhibits a sharp maximum at 0.2 mol%. The intensity of the high-temperature peak tends to rise slightly with increasing Mg concentration. It was found that the optimum concentrations of the dopants in the LiF:Mg,Cu,Na,Si TL material are Mg: 0.2 mol%, Cu: 0.05 mol%, Na and Si: 0.9 mol%. The dependency of the main peak intensity on sintering temperature exhibits a very sharp maximum at 830°C. The high-temperature peak was rapidly reduced after 825°C. 相似文献

Trinucleon molecular structures in 6He and 6Be were investigated by using the 6Li(7Li, 7Be)6He reaction at 455 MeV and 6Li(3He, t)6Be reaction at 450 MeV, respectively. Binary decays into t + t from a broad state at E x =18.0±1.0 MeV in 6He and into 3He + 3He from one at E x =18.0±1.2 MeV in 6Be, respectively, were observed by measuring trinucleon cluster decays in coincidence with reaction particles. The branching ratios for binary decay were estimated to be about 0.7 for 6He and 6Be. These large branching ratios show that a trinucleon cluster state exists as an isobaric partner around E x =18 MeV in 6He and 6Be. 相似文献

Nanostructure diamond (NSD) film with a hardness as high as 70 GPa and an average surface roughness of 10 nm has been synthesized by the two-step negative substrate bias method combined with post-growth Ar-H2 plasma irradiation. In 1994, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) initiated a 5-year Co-ordinated Research Project (CRP) to determine
geographical and racial differences in peak bone mineral density (BMD) in men and women aged 15-49 years. The study demonstrates
that there are distinct global differences in BMD at the hip and spine in both men and women approximating to one population
standard deviation between populations with the highest and lowest BMD. These differences persist following adjustments for
age, sex and body size. Such information is valuable in understanding the reasons for global differences in fracture rate
and predicting future trends in fracture incidence.

Ultrafine black particles, ranging in diameter from 1 to 3 μm, were prepared by dispersion polymerization in a methanol/water mixture with vinyl monomers, nonpolymerizable Sudan black B dyes, and fluorescein isothiocyanate labeled charge control additives. Both the ratio of the methanol to the water dispersion medium and the polymeric stabilizer concentration had significant effects on the particle size. The important role of the stabilizer concentration lay in the particle formation step, during which it determined the particle stability and final particle size. These could affect the extent of the aggregation of nuclei by changing the adsorption rate of the stabilizer and the viscosity of the dispersion medium, resulting in smaller particles. The fluorescent‐labeled charge control additives strongly affected the electrophoretic mobility. A small concentration of fluorescent‐labeled charge control additives increased the electrophoretic mobility. However, a further addition reduced the electrophoretic mobility of the polymer particles. The concentration dependence of the fluorescent‐labeled charge control additives on the deposition behavior in the polymer particles was successfully imaged and thereafter quantified by image analysis. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Pyridine‐2‐carboximidates [methyl ( 1a ), ethyl ( 1b ), isopropyl ( 1c ), cyclopentyl ( 1d ), cyclohexyl ( 1e ), n‐octyl ( 1f ), and benzyl ( 1g )] were prepared from the reaction of 2‐cyanopyridine with the corresponding alcohols. Cyclopentyl‐substituted 1d was found to be a highly effective ligand for copper‐catalyzed atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of methyl methacrylate (MMA). For example, the observed rate constant for a CuBr/ 1d catalytic system was found to be nearly twice as high as the cyclohexyl‐substituted CuBr/ 1e catalytic system [kobs = (1.19 vs 0.56) × 10?4 s?1). The effects of the solvents, temperature, catalyst/initiator, and solvent/monomer ratio on the ATRP of MMA were studied systematically for the CuBr/ 1d catalytic system. The optimum condition for the ATRP of MMA was found to be a 1:2:1:400 [CuBr]o/[ 1d ]o/[ethyl 2‐bromoisobutyrate]o/[MMA]o ratio at 60 °C in veratrole solution, which yielded well‐defined poly(MMA) with a narrow molecular weight distribution of 1.14. The catalytically active copper complex 2d was isolated from the reaction of CuBr with 1d . Narrow molecular weight distributions as low as 1.06 were achieved for the CuBr/ 1d catalytic system by employing 10% of the deactivator CuBr2. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The kinetics of four sorption systems, Cu/tree fern, Pb/tree fern, AB9/activated clay and BR18/activated clay have been studied based on the assumption of a pseudo-second order rate law. Pseudo-isotherms using the pseudo-second order kinetic expression constant have been developed to describe the four liquid-solid sorption systems. The experimental results have been analyzed using a pseudo-Langmuir and a pseudo-Redlich-Peterson isotherm. Both isotherms were found to represent the measured sorption data well. According to the evaluation using the pseudo-Langmuir equation, the monolayer sorption capacities were obtained to be 13.9, 46.6, 124 and 105 mg g–1 for copper, lead, AB9 and BR18 respectively. 相似文献
