This paper describes buckling modes and stresses of elastic Kelvin open-cell foams subjected to [0 0 1], [0 1 1] and [1 1 1] uniaxial compressions. Cubic unit cells and cell aggregates in model foams are analyzed using a homogenization theory of the updated Lagrangian type. The analysis is performed on the assumption that the struts in foams have a non-uniform distribution of cross-sectional areas as observed experimentally. The relative density is changed to range from 0.005 to 0.05. It is thus found that long wavelength buckling and macroscopic instability primarily occur under [0 0 1] and [0 1 1] compressions, with only short wavelength buckling under [1 1 1] compression. The primary buckling stresses under the three compressions are fairly close to one another and almost satisfy the Gibson–Ashby relation established to fit experiments. By also performing the analysis based on the uniformity of strut cross-sectional areas, it is shown that the non-uniformity of cross-sectional areas is an important factor for the buckling behavior of open-cell foams. 相似文献

Frequency dependence of ac conductivity from 1 to 105 Hz and time series of the conductivity at 2 kHz were measured along c-axis of thulium nitrate crystal, Tm(NO3)36H2O at temperatures from 203.15 to 293.15 K. The meta-stability was observed. The frequency spectra of the conductivity were similar to those in disorder system. Aging effect was observed. Non-periodic instability (burst) was found. A technique for dimensional reduction of nonlinear delay differential equations (DDEs) with time-periodic coefficients is
presented. The DDEs considered here have a canonical form with at most cubic nonlinearities and periodic coefficients. The
nonlinear terms are multiplied by a perturbation parameter. Perturbation expansion converts the nonlinear response problem
into solutions of a series of nonhomogeneous linear ordinary differential equations (ODEs) with time-periodic coefficients.
One set of linear nonhomogeneous ODEs is solved for each power of the perturbation parameter. Each ODE is solved by a Chebyshev
spectral collocation method. Thus we compute a finite approximation to the nonlinear infinite-dimensional map for the DDE.
The linear part of the map is the monodromy operator whose eigenvalues characterize stability. Dimensional reduction on the
map is then carried out. In the case of critical eigenvalues, this corresponds to center manifold reduction, while for the
noncritical case resonance conditions are derived. The accuracy of the nonlinear Chebyshev collocation map is demonstrated
by finding the solution of a nonlinear delayed Mathieu equation and then a milling model via the method of steps. Center manifold
reduction is illustrated via a single inverted pendulum including both a periodic retarded follower force and a nonlinear
restoring force. In this example, the amplitude of the limit cycle associated with a flip bifurcation is found analytically
and compared to that obtained from direct numerical simulation. The method of this paper is shown by example to be applicable

By use of electrostatic interactions of dye molecules and poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) (PDDA), the spin-coating technique has been successfully applied to the preparation of stable J-aggregate thin films of thiacarbocyanine dyes on a polycarbonate or quartz plate. The J-aggregate thin films were prepared by the spin-coating of PDDA aqueous solution on dye thin films prepared on a substrate by the spin-coating of 2,2,3,3-tetrafluoro-1-propanol solution of dyes. Photophysical properties of the dye thin films and J-aggregate thin films were studied by measuring the fluorescence spectra, quantum yields, and lifetimes. Coherent size of the J-aggregates was estimated to be 3-12 by means of the absorption bandwidth (full width at half maximum) or radiative lifetime. Photostability of the J-aggregate thin films was also studied in terms of photodegradation efficiency under argon and oxygen in comparison with the dye thin films, and J-aggregate thin films were found to be more stable than the corresponding dye thin films. 相似文献
