The electronic behaviors of TiO2/MnO2/carbon clusters composite materials obtained by the calcination of a TiO(acac)2/Mn(acac)3/epoxy resin complex

The calcination of a TiO(acac)₂/Mn(acac)₃/epoxy resin complex under an oxygen atmosphere successfully produced nano-sized TiO₂/MnO₂/carbon clusters composite material. The surface characterizations of the resulting composites indicate that they are composed of nano-sized particles of TiO₂, MnO₂ and carbon clusters. ESR spectral examination suggests the possibility of an electron transfer in the process of MnO₂ → carbon clusters → TiO₂. The visible light-responsive oxidation–reduction function of the composite materials has also been confirmed.     

Liquid crystalline gel beads of curdlan

Curdlan beads consisting of liquid crystalline gel (LCG) and amorphous gel (AG) in alternating layers in a wide range of diameters were newly prepared by interfacial insolubilization reactions using calcium chloride as the setting reagent. The thickness of the liquid crystalline layer was proportional to the diameter of the gel bead, and the proportional constant agreed with that determined for the cylindrical gel prepared by a dialysis method. The proportional constant initially increased with increasing calcium concentration of the dispersing medium and saturated at a high concentration limit. These results suggest that the mechanisms for forming the alternating LCG/AG structures prepared with different boundary conditions are the same. The LCG/AG structure could be controlled by calcium concentration.     

Non-exponential picosecond fluorescence decay in isolated pentafluorobenzene and hexafluorobenzene

Two-component fluorescence decay has been observed in isolated pentafluorobenzene and hexafluorobenzene excited at 266 nm. From the temperature and pressure dependence of the decay constants an attempt has been made to separate sequence congestion effects from other possible causes of non-exponential behavior.     

Nuclear chemistry of indium and related compounds

The activation of indium by gamma-ray source through absorption of photons of resonance energy and the threshold energy (appearance energy) determination in indium compounds as well as some results of hot atom chemistry studies of indium compounds and of implantation with indium ions are described.
