The variation of sublattice moment with composition for antiferromagnetic nickel-manganese alloys

Neutron diffraction from polycrystalline samples containing from 30 to 90 at% Mn has been used to follow the variation of the sublattice moment with composition. The 30 at% sample is not antiferromagnetic at 7 K but the 35 at% sample is antiferromagnetic with a moment of 0.65μ_B. As the Mn concentration is increased the sublattice moment increases monotonically, and finally linearly, extrapolating through the composition gap at about 50 at% Mn where the face centred cubic phase is not stable.     

A measurement of the energy dependence of the inclusive yield of high-Pt events triggered by a large solid angle calorimeter

Large aperture calorimeter measurements of high transverse momentum events from 100, 200 and 340 GeV pp collisions are reported. Yields are higher by one to two orders of magnitude than the yield expected from uncorrelated statistical fluctuations in multiparticle events. The exponential slopes of the yields versus x_t exhibited a systematic change with $\text{s}\text{(x}{}_{\mathrm{<mtext>t</mtext>}}\text{= 2P}{}_{\mathrm{<mtext>t</mtext>}}\text{/}\text{s}\text{)}$. The events are shown to be more diffuse than pure jets as produced in e⁺e^? collisions. However, these events are consistent with a QCD-inspired 4-jet model.     

K* 0 Σ+ Photoproduction with Evidence for the Kappa Meson Exchange at SPring-8/LEPS

Recently, LEPS collaboration reported the parity spin asymmetry for the γ p → K* ⁰Σ⁺ reaction using linearly polarized photons at beam energies from 1.85 to 2.96 GeV. The parity spin asymmetry ( ${P_{\sigma} = 2\rho^{1}_{1-1} - \rho^{1}_{00}}$ ) was obtained, with large positive asymmetry at forward angles. This supports that natural-parity exchange is dominant at forward angles for K* ⁰Σ⁺ photoproduction, which is consistent with κ meson-exchange. The differential cross sections for the γ p → K* ⁰Σ⁺ reaction are presented at forward angles averaged over all beam energies. There is good agreement with the differential cross sections from the CLAS and the CBELSA/TAPS collaborations.     

Controlling a ray bundle with a free-form reflector

The problem of controlling a single ray bundle with a single reflector is not generally solvable, but approximate solutions may often be found that are acceptable for applications. We introduce a new technique for finding such approximations and apply it to the design of a driver-side mirror for an automobile that has no blind spot and minimal distortion.
