Effects of substituent and solvent on the structure and spectral properties of maleimide derivatives

The maximum absorption wavelength , emission wavelength (λem) and the related oscillator strength (f) of the maleimides in the ground and first excited states were calculated by using the DFT, CIS and the time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) methods, where the molecular structures were optimized by DFT/B3LYP/6-31G* calculation. Solvent effects on the maleimides were examined using the PCM simulation at DFT/B3LYP level with the 6-31G* basis set. For N-substituted maleimide, the substituent gives only a slight influence on the maleimide chromophore, while planar conformation of PhMLH leads to the improvement in π-delocalization from substituent to maleimide unit. For 3,4-substituted maleimide, the steric repulsion between substituent and maleimide chromophore influences the extent of π-delocalization and the molecular conformation. The calculated and λem of maleimides are in good agreement with the experimental data. In the gas phase, both absorption and emission peaks are red-shift as compared to the non-substituted maleimide. Under solvent environment, the more planar conformation of PhMLH shows a blue-shift in the calculated and λem as compared with other N-substituted maleimides. For 3,4-substituted maleimides, the effect of substitution produces the most significant spectral red-shift as compared to other maleimides. 相似文献

Optimized geometries and electronic structures of hydrogenated silicon nanoclusters, which include the Td and Ih symmetries, have been generated by using the semiempirical AM1 and PM3 methods, the density functional theory (DFT) B3LYP method with the 6-31G(d) and LANL2DZ basis sets from the Gaussian 03 package, and the local density functional approximation (LDA), which is implemented in the SIESTA package. The calculated diameters for these Td symmetric hydrogenated silicon nanoclusters are in the range from 6.61 A (Si5H12) to 23.24 A (Si281H172). For the Ih symmetry, we calculated Si20H20 and Si100H60 nanoclusters only. Theoretically, the energy gap between the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) and the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) is size dependent. The calculated energy gap decreases (Si5H12: 7.65 eV to Si281H172: 3.06 eV) while the diameter of silicon nanocluster increases. By comparing different calculated results, we concluded that the calculated energy gap by B3LYP/6-31G(d)//LDA/SIESTA is close to that from experiment and that the LDA/SIESTA result underestimates the experimental value. On the contrary, the AM1 and PM3 results overestimate the experimental results. For investigation of the optical properties of Si nanoclusters as a function of surface passivation, we carried out a B3LYP/6-31G(d)//LDA/SIESTA calculation of the Si35 and Si47 core clusters with full alkyl-, OH-, NH2-, CH2NH2-, OCH3-, SH-, C3H6SH-, and CN- passivations. The calculated optical properties of alkyl passivated Si35 nanoclusters (Si35(CH3)36, Si35(C2H5)36, and Si35(C3H7)36) are close to one another and are higher than those of oxide, nitride, and sulfide passivated Si 35 clusters. In conclusion, the alkyl passivant affects weakly the calculated optical gaps, and the electron-withdrawing passivants generate a red-shift in the energy gap of silicon nanoclusters. The flame retardant mechanism of the copolyester phosphorus containing linked pendant groups was investigated by thermogravimetric (TG), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and direct insertion probe pyrolysis mass spectrometry (DP-MS) technique. TG results show that the incorporation of phosphorus containing unit linked pendant groups can destabilize the copolyester due to the cleavage of P-CH2 bond, and phosphorus containing units cannot promote the char-formation of the copolyester during the thermal degradation of the copolyester. XPS spectra indicate that with the increase of the temperature, the P-CH2 bonds of the copolyester break down gradually, the concentration of phosphorus in the condensed phase products decrease gradually and the chemical state of phosphorus does not change in the temperature of 250-380 ℃. Direct pyrolysis MS suggests that the P-CH2 bonds cleavage occurs at pendant groups and species containing phosphorus can volatilize into the gas phase. A flame retardant mechanism is proposed for the gas phase mode of action of the halogen-free copolyester phosphorus containing linked pendant groups. 相似文献

Comprehensive excitation behaviors of 7-N,N-diethylamino-3-hydroxyflavone (I) have been investigated via steady state, temperature-dependent emission, and fluorescence upconversion to probe the excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (PT) reaction. Upon excitation, I undergoes ultrafast (<120 fs), adiabatic type of charge transfer (CT), so that the dipolar vector in the Franck-Condon excited state is much different from that in the ground state. In polar solvents such as CH2Cl2 and CH3CN, early relaxation dynamics clearly reveals the competitive rates between solvent relaxation and PT dynamics. After reaching thermal equilibrium, a relatively slow, solvent-polarity-dependent rate (a few tens of picoseconds(-1)) of PT takes places. Firm support of the early relaxation dynamics is rendered by the spectral temporal evolution, which resolves two distinct bands ascribed to CT and PT emission. The results, in combination with ab initio calculations on the dipolar vectors for various corresponding states, led us to conclude that excited-state normal (N*) and excited proton-transfer tautomer (T*) possesses very different dipole orientation, whereas the dipole orientation of the normal ground state (N) is between that of N* and T*. PT is thus energetically favorable at the Franck-Condon excited N*, and its rate is competitive with respect to the solvent relaxation dynamics induced by CT. Unlike the well-known PT system, 4'-N,N-diethylamino-3-hydroxyflavone, in which equilibrium exists between solvent-equilibrated N(eq)* and T(eq)*, N(eq)* --> T(eq)* PT for I is a highly exergonic, irreversible process in all solvents studied. Further temperature-dependent studies deduce a solvent-polarity-perturbed energy barrier of 3.6 kcal/mol for the N(eq)* --> T(eq)* PT in CH3CN. The proposed dipole-moment-tuning PT mechanism with the associated relaxation dynamics is believed to apply to many PT molecules in polar, aprotic solvents. 相似文献

We demonstrate the concept of Pb2+ cation sensing using the emissive Ir(III) complex (1) based on the associated decrease of room-temperature phosphorescence upon forming the 1:1 adduct 1-Pb2+. Complex 1 bears two cyclometalated N-phenyl pyrazoles with pyrazoles residing at the mutual trans dispositions as well as one 3,5-di(pyridyl) pyrazolate chelate. X-ray structural analyses on the adduct 1-Pb2+ confirm the key function of 3,5-di(pyridyl) pyrazolate as it forms chelate interaction with the metal analytes, while quenching of phosphorescent emission is probably due to the Pb2+ induced perturbation, which increases the intersystem crossing to another lower-lying triplet state for the host chromophore via an enhanced spin–orbit coupling. 相似文献

A molecular recognition concept exploiting multiple-hydrogen-bond fine-tuned excited-state proton-transfer (ESPT) was conveyed using 3,4,5,6-tetrahydrobis(pyrido[3,2-g]indolo)[2,3-a:3',2'-j]acridine (1a). The catalytic type 1a/carboxylic acids hydrogen-bonding (HB) complexes undergo ultrafast ESPT, resulting in an anomalously large Stokes shifted tautomer emission (lambdamax approximately 600 nm). Albeit forming a quadruple HB complex, ESPT is prohibited in the noncatalytic-type 1a/urea complexes (lambdamax approximately 430 nm). Two series of size‐fractionated combusted residues, a bag‐house ash and a scrubber residue, from a municipal solid waste incinerator (MSWI) were prepared and extracted by means of sequential chemical extraction (SCE) procedures proposed by Tessier. Concentrations of water‐soluble phase, exchangeable phase, carbonated phase, Fe/Mn oxide phase, organic matter phase, and residual phase bound amphoteric metals (Pb and Zn) were obtained, and have been compared with those of single batch extraction of toxic characteristic leaching procedure (TCLP). In each size fraction of baghouse ash or scrubber residue, lead or zinc shows a common phenomena that the TCLP value is always lower than the content of the water‐soluble fraction. For lead, baghouse ash has a significant size‐dependent distribution on the water‐soluble phase to perform a size‐dependent test of lead in the TCLP test. The zinc TCLP data having less size dependence might be due to that neither the baghouse ash nor the scrubber residue has a size‐dependent distribution on the water‐soluble zinc phase. 相似文献

Recently, the organic synthesis and electronic device applications of π-conjugated polymer-based materials with low energy band gap (below 2 eV) and high values of incident photon to current efficiency have been presented. In the present study, the physical properties of polythiophene (PTH) and its derivative systems (PTs) were investigated as π-conjugated low energy band gap polymers. Density functional theory with periodic boundary condition (PBC), the B3LYP functional, and the 6-31G(d) basis set was applied to determine their geometric and electronic structures and corresponding energies (E HOMO, E LUMO, and E g = E LUMO ? E HOMO) from the monomer of thiophene and its derivatives for one-dimensional (1D) extension to polymer. The effects of 3-substitution in PTs including electron-donating (CH3–, C6H13–, OH–, Cl–, OCH3–, and CHO–) and electron-withdrawing groups (Cl–, CHO–, CN–, NO2–, CF3–, and COOH–) compared with PTH were investigated. According to the calculation results, PTs with electron-donating and electron-withdrawing substituents should exhibit red- and blue-shifts, respectively, compared with PTH. Alkaline metals are an ideal negative electrode for rechargeable batteries. Forming a fluorine‐rich interphase by a fluorinated electrolyte is recognized as key to utilizing lithium metal electrodes, and the same strategy is being applied to sodium metal electrodes. However, their reversible plating/stripping reactions have yet to be achieved. Herein, we report a contrary concept of fluorine‐free electrolytes for sodium metal batteries. A sodium tetraphenylborate/monoglyme electrolyte enables reversible sodium plating/stripping at an average Coulombic efficiency of 99.85 % over 300 cycles. Importantly, the interphase is composed mainly of carbon, oxygen, and sodium elements with a negligible presence of fluorine, but it has both high stability and extremely low resistance. This work suggests a new direction for stabilizing sodium metal electrodes via fluorine‐free interphases. 相似文献
