The potential for producing reproductive toxicity or teratogenesis in mice by exposure to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) conditions was evaluated by means of reproduction studies and the homeotic shift test. Embryos from pregnant BALB/c mice were exposed in vivo for 16 hours beginning on gestation day 8.75 to MRI conditions of modest field strength (static field, 0.35 tesla (T); pulsed gradients, 2.3 X 10(-4) T/cm for 2.5 to 10 msec; and radio frequency, 15 MHz at an average of 61.2 mW). Unexposed, sham-exposed (both MRI and X-ray) and X-irradiated (0.5 Gy) animals were the control groups. Neither placental resorptions nor stillbirths were increased by MRI. Fetal weight at birth and crown-rump length were proportional; however, crown-rump length was significantly less (p less than 0.001) in the MRI-exposed fetuses (respective mean values for MRI-exposed fetuses were 21.8 +/- 0.2 mm compared to 22.4 +/- 0.1 for sham-exposed fetuses). Both crown-rump length and fetal weight were significantly reduced after X-irradiation. The percentage of homeotic skeletal shifts was scored for each of eight anatomic sites. Only X-radiation produced significant increases in skeletal shifts. Prolonged midgestational exposure of mice to MRI conditions currently used for human clinical imaging, therefore, failed to reveal overt embryotoxicity (resorptions, stillbirths) or teratogenicity (homeotic shifts), consistent with the non-ionizing properties of MR. However, the slight but significant reduction in fetal crown-rump length after prolonged exposure justifies further study of higher MRI energy levels and consideration of other endpoints for establishing with greater confidence the safety of MRI during pregnancy.  相似文献

In the present study, siderophore produced by the marine yeast Aureobasidium pullulans was characterized as hydroxamate by chemical and bioassays. The hydroxamate assignment was supported by the appearance of peaks at 1,647.21?C1,625.99?cm?1 and at 1,435.04?cm?1 in the infrared spectrum. The purified siderophore exhibited specific growth-promoting activity under iron-limited conditions for siderophore auxotrophic probiotic bacteria. Cross-utilization of siderophore indicates a symbiotic relationship between the yeast A. pullulans and the selected probiotic bacterial strains. Statistical optimization of medium components for improved siderophore production in A. pullulans was depicted by response surface methodology. The shift in UV?CVis spectroscopy indicates the photoreactive property and subsequent oxidative cleavage of purified siderophore on exposure to sunlight.  相似文献

This article presents the changes in the thermal properties of the control and titanium dioxide (TiO2), both nano and bulk exposed Zebrafish bones by using thermo analytical techniques. The result shows that the mass loss due to the thermal decomposition occurs in three distinct steps due to loss of water, organic and inorganic materials. The titanium dioxide exposed bones present a different thermal behaviour compared to the control bones. The residue masses are found to be increased due to titanium dioxide exposure. In particular, nano titanium dioxide exposure increases the residue mass level significantly (three fold) when compared to titanium dioxide bulk exposure. These thermal characteristics can be used as a qualitative method to check the metal oxide intoxication in biological samples.  相似文献

A least-squares spectral collocation scheme is combined with the overlapping Schwarz method. The methods are succesfully applied to the incompressible Navier–Stokes equations. The collocation conditions and the interface conditions lead to an overdetermined system which can be efficiently solved by least-squares. The solution technique will only involve symmetric positive definite linear systems. The overlapping Schwarz method is used for the iterative solution. For parallel implementation the subproblems are solved in a checkerboard manner. Our approach is successfully applied to the lid-driven cavity flow problem. Only a few Schwarz iterations are necessary in each time step. Numerical simulations confirm the high accuracy of our spectral least-squares scheme.  相似文献

A least-squares spectral collocation method for the one-dimensional inviscid Burgers equation is proposed. This model problem shows the stability and high accuracy of these schemes for nonlinear hyperbolic scalar equations. Here we make use of a least-squares spectral approach which was already used in an earlier paper for discontinuous and singular perturbation problems (Heinrichs, J. Comput. Appl. Math. 157:329–345, 2003). The domain is decomposed in subintervals where continuity is enforced at the interfaces. Equal order polynomials are used on all subdomains. For the spectral collocation scheme Chebyshev polynomials are employed which allow the efficient implementation with Fast Fourier Transforms (FFTs). The collocation conditions and the interface conditions lead to an overdetermined system which can be efficiently solved by least-squares. The solution technique will only involve symmetric positive definite linear systems. The scheme exhibits exponential convergence where the exact solution is smooth. In parts of the domain where the solution contains discontinuities (shocks) the spectral solution displays a Gibbs-like behavior. Here this is overcome by some suitable exponential filtering at each time level. Here we observe that by over-collocation the results remain stable also for increasing filter parameters and also without filtering. Furthermore by an adaptive grid refinement we were able to locate the precise position of the discontinuity. Numerical simulations confirm the high accuracy of our spectral least-squares scheme.   相似文献

Background  

Our group previously demonstrated that a DNA plasmid encoding the mycobacterial 65-kDa heat shock protein (DNA-HSP65) displayed prophylactic and therapeutic effect in a mice model for tuberculosis. This protection was attributed to induction of a strong cellular immunity against HSP65. As specific immunity to HSP60 family has been detected in arthritis, multiple sclerosis and diabetes, the vaccination procedure with DNA-HSP65 could induce a cross-reactive immune response that could trigger or worsen these autoimmune diseases.  相似文献

Marine molluscs have long been recognised as potential records of palaeoclimate change using the patterns and differences in the stable isotopic composition of the carbonate shells. The aim of this study is to improve the robustness of this approach for aragonitic molluscs by completing the first experimental calibration of the fractionation between water and biogenic aragonite. Fractionation factors were calibrated by growing specimens of the freshwater mollusc Lymnaea peregra under controlled conditions of water temperature and isotopic composition. Fifteen populations of L. peregra were maintained at constant temperature and isotopic conditions for five months (at five different temperatures and using three different water compositions). Water samples and temperature measurements were taken regularly throughout the experiment. The temperature dependence of the fractionation factor, between 8 and 24 degrees C, is given by: 1000 ln alpha=16.74x(1000T(-1))-26.39 (T in Kelvin) and the relationship between temperature (T), delta(18)O(carb) and delta(18)O(wat) is given by: T=21.36-4.83xdelta(+ degrees )O(carb)-delta(+ degrees )O(wat) (T is in degrees C, delta(18)O(carb) is with respect to Vienna Pee Dee Belemnite (PDB), the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) replacement standard for PDB, and delta(18)O(wat) is with respect to Vienna standard mean ocean water (VSMOW)) The outcome of the controlled experiment is compared with previous studies on synthetic, and biogenic, calcite and aragonite from field and laboratory investigations. These comparisons suggest that although a vital offset exists between the fractionation of isotopes in synthetic and biogenic aragonite for molluscs in general, there is no vital effect that is specific either to freshwater, or to individual, genera. Therefore, the calibrated relationship may be used for any freshwater or marine mollusc to derive palaeotemperatures providing the isotopic composition of the environmental water can be reliably constrained.
