A force field study of diacetylene molecule by kinetic constant method

The potential constants of diacetylene molecule has been evaluated using kinetic constants. The other molecular constants such as the generalised vibrational mean amplitudes, shrinkage constants, Coriolis coupling constants and centrifugal distortion constants are also calculated using the vibrational frequencies and the results discussed.     

π‐Facial Selectivity in the Formation of Tricarbonylchromium(0) Complexes of Estra‐1, 3, 5(10), 6‐tetraenes

The preparation of two η⁶‐estra‐1, 3, 5(10), 6‐tetraene tricarbonylchromium complexes 4 and 6 are described. In both cases only one stereoisomer can be isolated, in contrast to other estrane‐tricarbonylchromium complexes, where complexations are non‐stereoselective. X‐ray crystal structural analysis of 4 discloses that only the more sterically hindered β‐facial isomer is formed. It is assumed that the 6, 7‐olefinic moiety exerts a directive influence on the complexation.     

Investigation of the reaction products of 5-amino-1,3-disubstituted-pyrazoles with aromatic aldehydes. synthesis of new fluorinated 1,3,4-trisubstituted-4H-pyrazolo[3,4-e][1,4]thiazepin-7-ones

The condensation products of 5-amino-1,3-disubstituted-pyrazoles with aromatic aldehydes were identified as 2,4-dihydro-2,5-diphenyl-4-(phenylmethylene)-3H-pyrazol-5-imine derivatives Treatment of these products with mercaptoacetic acid gave new fluorine containing 1H-pyrazolo[3,4-e][1,4]thiazepin-7-ones.     

Synthesis of 3‐(substituted)‐2,4,8,15‐tetroxa‐3‐phosphadispiro[5.2.5]hexadecane‐3‐oxides

Novel 3‐(substituted)‐2,4,8,15‐tetroxa‐3‐phosphadispiro[5.2.5]hexadecane‐3‐oxides (3‐12) have been synthesized by cyclization of 1,5‐dioxaspiro[5.5]undecande‐3,3‐dimethanol (1) with various substituted aryl phosphorus dichloridates (2) in dry toluene‐THF in the presence of triethylamine at 40‐60 ^oC. Their molecular structures were determined by ir, nmr and mass spectral studies and were screened for antifungal activity against Curvularia lunata and Aspergillus niger, and antibacterial activity on Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. Most of them possess significant activity.     

A molecular dynamics study of the pentacyclo-undecane cage amino acid tripeptide

In this paper, we report on the conformational profile of the pentacyclo-undecane (PCU) cage tripeptide carried out by molecular dynamics (MD) simulation using water as an explicit solvent. The MD solution phase studies carried on the model peptide analogues (A)=Ac–Ala–Ala–Ala–NHMe; (B)=Ac–Cage–Cage–Cage–NHMe; (C)=Ac–Ala–Cage–Ala–NHMe and (D)=Ac–Ala–Pro–Ala–NHMe, are used as a complimentary technique to the corresponding gas phase simulated annealing (SA) study previously carried out in our laboratory. No significant structural changes were observed over the MD trajectories. However, the results reported here provide further evidence that the (PCU) cage amino acid exhibits C_7eq, C_7aq, _R and _L conformations, and the theoretical results suggest that the PCU cage amino acid is a strong β-turn inducer. These results support the prediction that when the PCU cage residues are in the (i) and (i+2) positions, the β-turn can be extended in either direction to form anti-parallel β-pleated sheets, thereby forming the basis of the mechanism for the folding back of the chain in a cross-β-turn structure.     

Synthesis of 1-(5-phenyl-2H-tetrazol-2-ylacetyl)-4-substituted thiosemicarbazides as possible antiinflammatory agents

A series of 1-(5-phenyl-2H-tetrazol-2-ylacetyl)-4-substituted thiosemicarbazids were prepared as possible antiinflammatory agents. Their antiproteolytic activity was reported.     

Studies in spiroheterocycles. Part V. Synthesis of new fluorinated spiro[3H-indole-3,2′-oxiran]-2(1H)-ones

Reinvestigation of the reaction of 3-aroylmethyleneindol-2-ones with hydrogen peroxide has revealed that a 1:1 isomeric mixture of spiro[3H-indole-3,2′-oxiran]-2(1H)-ones is formed. The structures of the two isomers have been confirmed by their ir, pmr and mass spectral studies. Mass fragmentation patterns of these compounds are discussed.     

Reduced inorganic phosphorus in the natural environment: significance, speciation and determination

It is commonly assumed that phosphorus occurs almost exclusively in the environment as fully oxidized phosphate (primarily H₂PO₄⁻ and HPO₄²⁻, where the oxidation state of phosphorus is +V). Recent developments in the field of microbiology and research on the origin of life have suggested a possibly significant role for reduced, inorganic forms of phosphorus in bacterial metabolism and as evolutionary precursors of biological phosphate compounds. Reduced inorganic forms of phosphorus include phosphorus acid (H₃PO₃, P(+III)), hypophosphorus acid (H₃PO₂, P(+I)) and various forms of phosphides (P(−III)). Reduced phosphorus has been detected in anaerobic sediments, sewage treatment facilities and in industrial and agricultural processes.Microbiological evidence suggests a significant role for reduced phosphorus species in metabolic processes and raises interesting questions regarding the biogeochemistry of this nutrient in the environment. However, the paucity of data on the presence and cycling of reduced phosphorus compounds in the environment requires attention in order to elucidate the role of these compounds in natural systems. This paper discusses the significance of reduced phosphorus in the natural environment, its speciation and methods of detection.     

Perthio- and perseleno-1,3-butadienes, -but-1-ene-3-ynes,and -[3]-cumulenes: one-step syntheses from 1,4-dilithio-1,3-butadiyne

[reaction: see text] Treatment of 1,4-dilithio-1,3-butadiyne (1) with dichalcogenides RSSR or RSeSeR affords dithio- and diseleno-1,3-butadiynes (2, 3), perthio- and perseleno-[3]-cumulenes (4, 5), perthio- and perseleno-1,3-butadienes (6, 7), and/or perthio- and perseleno-but-1-ene-3-ynes (8, 9). The products can be controlled by stoichiometry and temperature, by the presence or absence of oxygen, and by choice of the "R" group. By X-ray crystallography, hexa(methylthio)-1,3-butadiene is highly twisted, with a torsion angle [Phi(CCCC)] of 84.7 degrees and an elongated C(2)-C(3) distance of 1.484(3) A.     

RED EDGE EXCITATION EFFECT IN INTACT EYE LENS

Shift in the wavelength of emission upon shift in the excitation wavelength towards the red edge of the absorption band is termed Red Edge Excitation Shift (REES). This effect is observed only in situation where the fluorophore mobility with respect to the surrounding matrix is considerably reduced. We have observed such red edge excitation effect in the intact eye lens. The REES observed for a normal lens is different from that seen in a photodamaged lens and hence appears to be a potential tool to monitor the changes in the state of the lens. Photodamage experiments with tryptophan in polyethylene glycol (PEG) and intact eye lens indicate that the red edge photon can also cause photodamage.
