Characteristics of coated copper wire specimens using high frequency ultrasonic complex vibration welding equipments

Welding characteristic of thin coated copper wires were studied using 40, 60, 100 kHz ultrasonic complex vibration welding equipments with elliptical to circular vibration locus. The complex vibration systems consisted of a longitudinal-torsional vibration converter and a driving longitudinal vibration system. Polyurethane coated copper wires of 0.036 mm outer diameter and copper plates of 0.3 mm thickness and the other dimension wires were used as welding specimens. The copper wire part is completely welded on the copper substrate and the insulated coating material is driven from welded area to outsides of the wire specimens by high frequency complex vibration.     

Biosynthesis of lambertellols based on the high specific incorporation of the 13C-labeled acetates and their biological properties

Biosyntheses of lambertellols A (1) and B (2) as well as lambertellin (3) were investigated by isotope labeling experiments. Nearly 40% of specific incorporation of [1,2-(13)C(2)]acetate was achieved, and all the carbons in 1 and 2 were labeled. This high incorporation of the labeled acetate was realized by providing INADEQUATE spectra by employing only 0.4 and 0.7 mg of 1 and 2, respectively. Our studies revealed that 1-3 are biogenetically synthesized via loss of two carbons from octameric acetate. A biological assay against Monilinia fructicola revealed those remarkably inhibited hyphal germinations. However, neither of them killed the spores immediately, even in high concentration. These conditions induced the formation of microconidia.     

Néel and Spin-Peierls ground states of two-dimensional SU(N) quantum antiferromagnets

The two-dimensional SU(N) quantum antiferromagnet, a generalization of the quantum Heisenberg model, is investigated by quantum Monte Carlo simulations. The ground state for Nor=5 with broken lattice translational invariance. Our computation of the magnetization and the dimerization order parameter shows the absence of the intermediate spin-liquid phase.     

Measurement of the electroweak penguin process B-->X(s)l+l-

We report the first measurement of the branching fraction for the inclusive decay B-->X(s)l(+)l(-), where l is either an electron or a muon, and X(s) is a hadronic recoil system that contains an s quark. We analyzed a data sample of 65.4 x 10(6) B meson pairs collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB e(+)e(-) asymmetric-energy collider. We find B(B-->X(s)l(+)l(-))=[6.1 +/-1.4(stat) +1.4-1.1(syst)] x 10(-6) for dilepton masses greater than 0.2 GeV/c(2).     

Extremal Self-Dual Codes over \mathbb{F} 2 × \mathbb{F} 2

In this paper, it is shown that extremal (Hermitian) self-dual codes over ₂ × ₂ exist only for lengths 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 10. All extremal self-dual codes over ₂ × ₂ are found. In particular, it is shown that there is a unique extremal self-dual code up to equivalence for lengths 8 and 10. Optimal self-dual codes are also investigated. A classification is given for binary [12, 7, 4] codes with dual distance 4, binary [13, 7, 4] codes with dual distance 4 and binary [13, 8, 4] codes with dual distance 4.     

Increased selectivity in the detection of glycoproteins on nitrocellulose membranes by washing with sodium hydroxide solution.

We increased selectivity in the detection of glycoproteins on nitrocellulose membranes by introducing a washing step using sodium hydroxide solution. Glycoproteins on the nitrocellulose membrane were first oxidized by sodium periodate; biotin hydrazide was then coupled to the aldehyde groups generated in the sugar moiety of the glycoproteins. The membrane was washed twice using sodium hydroxide solution, and avidin-horseradish peroxidase was then coupled to the remaining biotin. This system allows the detection of nanograms of glycoproteins on nitrocellulose membranes, and its specificity allows the clear distinction of glycoproteins from the nonglycosylated protein of bovine serum albumin.     

Photoelectron spectroscopy of naphthacene and perylene crystals by the rare gas emission lines

The energy distribution curves (EDC's) of the photoelectrons emitted from naphthacene (C₁₈H₁₂) and perylene (C₂₀H₁₂) crystals were measured using the rare gas resonance emission lines (He 21.22 eV, Ne 16.85 and 16.67 eV and Ar 11.83 and 11.62 eV). The peaks in the higher kinetic energy regions agree well with the peaks obtained from molecular photoelectron spectroscopy studies if constant energy shifts are assumed. In the lower kinetic energy regions, however, fixed kinetic energy peaks are found which are independent of the incident photon energies.
