Standard<Emphasis Type="Italic">SU</Emphasis>(5) supergravity grand unification model and predictions

A review is given of the StandardSU(5) supergravity model. This model has passed an important check regarding unification of the electro-weak and the strong couplings using high precision LEP data. It is shown that for a significant domain of the parameter space the model also satisfies constraints on the SUSY spectrum from CDF and LEP, as well as proton stability and cosmological relic density constraints.     

A five-channel grating spectrometer for millimeter-waves

A five-channel grating spectrometer for use in millimeter wave band (25100GHz) is described with its design theory of optical path, and measured results of insertion loss and resolving power.     

A Glivenko-Cantelli lemma and weak convergence for empirical processes of associated sequences

Summary With the help of an extension of Hoeffding's equality, we develop a way for estimating the covariance structures for empirical functions of associated sequences in terms of covariances of the original random variables. Based on these estimations, a Glivenko-Cantelli lemma for associated sequences and weak convergence for empirical processes of stationary associated sequences are obtained, all under the conditions on covariances of the original random variables.This research has been supported partially by a scholarship from the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research of Carleton University, Ottawa, and by an NSERC Canada grant of M. Nonspecific medium effects versus specific group positioning in the antibody and albumin catalysis of the base-promoted ring-opening reactions of benzisoxazoles

The mechanisms by which solvents, antibodies, and albumins influence the rates of base-catalyzed reactions of benzisoxazoles have been explored theoretically. New experimental data on substituent effects and rates of reactions in several solvents, in an antibody, and in an albumin are reported. Quantum mechanical calculations were carried out for the reactions in water and acetonitrile, and docking of the transition state into a homology model of antibody 34E4 and an X-ray structure of human serum albumin was accomplished. A microenvironment made up of catalytic polar groups (glutamate in antibody 34E4 and lysine in human serum albumin) surrounded by relatively nonpolar groups is present in both catalytic proteins.
