Secondary derived functors and the Adams spectral sequence

Classical homological algebra takes place in additive categories. In homotopy theory such additive categories arise as homotopy categories of “additive groupoid enriched categories”, in which a secondary analog of homological algebra can be performed. We introduce secondary chain complexes and secondary resolutions leading to the concept of secondary derived functors. As a main result we show that the E₃-term of the Adams spectral sequence can be expressed as a secondary derived functor. This result can be used to compute the E₃-term explicitly by an algorithm.     

Die Rolle des Didaktischen in der Grundlegung der Arithmetik

Zusammenfassung. In den klassischen Beitr?gen von Dedekind, Hilbert, Landau und Pringsheim zur Grundlegung der reellen Zahlen werden „didaktische” und „wissenschaftliche” Gründe einander gegenübergestellt. In diesem Beitrag wird dem Spannungsverh?ltnis zwischen diesen Argumentationsweisen nachgegangen. Es wird gezeigt, wie sich diese beiden Aspekte in Forschung und Lehre gegenseitig befruchtet haben. Als ein Kernproblem erweist sich dabei die Frage nach der Begründbarkeit mathematischer und didaktischer Wertungen. This paper is concerned with a class of iterative processes of the formu _k+1 =Tu _k (k = 0, 1, ?) for solving nonlinear operator equationsu = Tu orFu = 0. By studying the relationship between a linear functional inequality?(Ah) β(h) + γ(h) ? ?(h) and estimates for the iteration operatorT a general semilocal convergence theorem is obtained. The theorem contains as special cases theorems for various iterative methods. Numerical examples illustrate the accuracy of the error estimates for the approximationu _k .     

Flat projective planes with 2-dimensional collineation group fixing at least two lines and more than two points

All flat projective planes whose collineation group contains a 2-dimensional subgroup fixing at least two lines and more than two points are classified. Furthermore, all isomorphism types of such planes are determined. This completes the classification of all flat projective planes admitting a 2-dimensional collineation group.
