Detailed diagnostic of antiproton beams at low energies is required for essentially all experiments at the Antiproton Decelerator (AD), but will be particularly important for the future Extra Low ENergy Antiproton ring (ELENA) and its keV beam lines to the different experiments. Many monitors have been successfully developed and operated at the AD, but in particular beam profile monitoring remains a challenge. A dedicated beam instrumentation and detector test stand has recently been setup at the AE \(\bar {g}\) IS experiment (Antimatter Experiment: Gravity, Interferometry, Spectroscopy). Located behind the actual experiment, it allows for parasitic use of the antiproton beam at different energies for testing and calibration. With the aim to explore and validate different candidate technologies for future low energy beam lines, as well as the downstream antihydrogen detector in AE \(\bar {g}\) IS, measurements have been carried out using Silicon strip and pixel detectors, a purpose-built secondary emission monitor and emulsions. Here, results from measurements and characterization of the different detector types with regard to their future use at the AD complex are presented.  相似文献

We report a highly sensitive means of measuring cellular dynamics with a novel interferometer that can measure motional phase changes. The system is based on a modified Michelson interferometer with a composite laser beam of 1550-nm low-coherence light and 775-nm CW light. The sample is prepared on a coverslip that is highly reflective at 775 nm. By referencing the heterodyne phase of the 1550-nm light reflected from the sample to that of the 775-nm light reflected from the coverslip, small motions in the sample are detected, and motional artifacts from vibrations in the interferometer are completely eliminated. We demonstrate that the system is sensitive to motions as small as 3.6 nm and velocities as small as 1 nm/s. Using the instrument, we study transient volume changes of a few (approximately three) cells in a monolayer immersed in weakly hypotonic and hypertonic solutions.  相似文献

TiO2 thin film was deposited on non-heated Si(1 0 0) substrate by RF magnetron sputtering. The as-deposited films were annealed by a conventional thermal annealing (CTA) and rapid thermal annealing (RTA) at 700 and 800 °C, and the effects of annealing temperature and method on optical properties of studied films were investigated by measuring the optical band gaps and FT-IR spectra. And we also compared the XRD patterns of the studied samples. The as-deposited film showed a mixed structure of anatase and brookite. Only rutile structures were found in samples annealed above 800 °C by CTA, while there are no special peaks except the weak brookite B(2 3 2) peak for the sample annealed at (or above) 800 °C by RTA. FT-IR spectra show the broad peaks due to Ti-O vibration mode in the range of 590-620 cm−1 for the as-deposited film as well as samples annealed by both annealing methods at 700 °C. The studied samples all had the peaks from Si-O vibration mode, which seemed to be due to the reaction between TiO2 and Si substrate, and the intensities of these peaks increased with increasing of annealing temperature. The optical band gap of the as-deposited film was 3.29 eV but it varied from 3.39 to 3.43 eV as the annealing temperature increased from 700 to 800 °C in the samples annealed by CTA. However, it varied from 3.38 to 3.32 eV as the annealing temperature increased from 700 to 800 °C by RTA.  相似文献

Localized arc filament plasma actuators (LAFPAs) have been developed and used at The Gas Dynamics and Turbulence Laboratory for the purpose of controlling high-speed and high Reynolds number jets. The ability of LAFPAs for use in both subsonic and supersonic jets has been explored, and experiments to date have shown that these actuators have significant potential for mixing enhancement and noise control applications. While it has been established that the actuators manipulate instabilities of the jet, the exact nature of how the actuation couples to the flow is still unclear. All of the results previously reported have been based on a nozzle extension that has an azimuthal groove of 1 mm width and 0.5 mm depth along the inner surface approximately 1 mm upstream of nozzle extension exit. The ring groove was initially added to shield the plasma arcs from the high-momentum flow. However, the effect of the ring groove on the actuation mechanism is not known. To explore this effect, a new nozzle extension is designed, which relocates the actuators to the nozzle extension face and eliminates the ring groove. Schlieren images, particle image velocimetry and acoustic results of a Mach 0.9 jet of Reynolds number ~6.1 × 105 show similar trends and magnitudes with and without a ring groove. Thus, it is concluded that the ring groove does not play a primary role in the LAFPAs’ control mechanism. Furthermore, the effect of the duty cycle of the actuator input pulse on the LAFPAs’ control authority is investigated. The results show that the minimum duty cycle that provides complete plasma formation has the largest control over the jet.  相似文献

The influence of the mirror reflectivity on the L–I characteristics of GaN-based lasers has been studied. A cleaved, Al-coated fiber is used as an external micro-mirror to control the reflectance of the end facets allowing for a continuous adjustment of mirror losses of a particular laser. In contrast to other methods, this eliminates all ambiguities usually arising from the comparison of different or differently coated devices. An increase in the single facet external quantum efficiency by 45% is observed for uncoated lasers and simultaneously, the threshold current is reduced by 12%. Internal losses of approximately 20–30 cm−1 are derived from the differential quantum efficiency variation depending on the particular device under investigation.  相似文献
