An ultra-sensitive laser spectroscopic method has been developed for the hyperfine spectroscopy of short-lived isotopes far off stability produced by heavy ion induced nuclear reactions at very weak intensity (> 1/s). It is based on resonance ionization spectroscopy in a buffer gas cell with radiation detection of the ionization process (RADRIS). As a first on-line application of RADRIS optical spectroscopy at242fAm fission isomers is in progress at the low target production rate of 10/s. The resonance ionization has been performed in two steps utilizing an excimer dye laser combination with a repetition rate of 300 Hz. The first resonant step proceeds through terms which correspond to wavelengths of 466.28, 468.17 or 426.56 nm; the second non-resonant step is achieved with the 351 nm radiation of the excimer laser itself, running with XeF. The frequency scans of the tuneable dye laser at 466.28 and 468.17 nm exhibit broad resonance ionization signals, the latter with a large isotope shift between242fAm and243Am which is in accordance with the large quadrupole moment of the242fAm fission isomer.Work supported by the Bundesministerium für Forschung und Technologie under contract 06 MZ 188 I.  相似文献

We introduce a method for stopping highly charged ions (HCIs) in a laser-cooled one-component plasma (OCP) of 24Mg+ ions and present results on stopping times derived from realistic molecular dynamics simulations of the complete stopping process. This stopping scheme can provide ultra-cold highly charged ions for future in-trap precision mass measurements. The choice of an ultra-cold ion plasma as a stopping medium is governed by the almost negligible charge exchange of the HCI with the laser-cooled ions and the very low temperatures which can be reached. In our analysis we focus on the stability and fast recooling of the plasma – two features essential for the experimental realization of this stopping scheme.   相似文献

An accurate measurement of the Doppler effect in collinear laser spectroscopy has been performed at the TSR storage ring with electron cooled7Li+ ions at=0.064. This experiment is a sensitive test of the=(1– 2)–1/2 factor(=v/c) in the special theory of relativity. The Doppler shifted frequencies of the moving7Li+ ions are compared with calibrated molecular lines at rest. The frequencies at rest for the7Li+ ions are known from independent measurements. The Doppler shifted frequencies in the collinear experiment have been measured with a precision ofv/v=6×10–9, mainly limited by the signal width of the resonance. A corresponding upper limit of 8×10–7 is deduced for any deviation of the time dilatation factor in special theory of relativity. A still higher accuracy is expected with a laser cooled ion beam. If such a beam is simultaneously subjected to RF bunching, the particle velocity and phase are exactly known. With an additional high resolution laser frequency measurement an improvement of at least one order of magnitude may be achieved.  相似文献

SHIPTRAP is an electromagnetic transport and trapping system to provide very clean and cold beams of singly-charged recoil ions from the SHIP facility at GSI. The different components of the system are currently under development in Munich (gas cell and extraction RFQ) and GSI (Buncher RFQ and Penning traps)[1]. Design and manufacturing of the prototype buffer gas cell and the extraction RFQ based on a wide range of simulations have been completed. The results of these simulations together with the first measurements will be reported. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

Transitions between nuclear states with a large deformation difference may have large transition probabilities for E0 decay. Such an E0 decay has been found in the decay of the superdeformed 238U fission isomer back into the normal-deformed states [1]. However, a search for the E0 back-decay in 236U showed no result [2]. A setup has been developed to search for conversion electrons in this decay.  相似文献

Laser spectroscopy at the heavy ion storage ring TSR in Heidelberg allows for precision experiments testing the limits of the special theory of relativity. With an optical-type three-level system of7Li+ the Doppler shift has been measured by saturation spectroscopy as a test of the time dilatation factor = (1 – 2)–1/2 at an ion velocity of = 6.4% c. A precision of/ < 9 × 10–9 has been obtained, which sets a second-order limit of 1.1 × 10–6 for any deviation from the time dilatation factor. The fourth-order limit of this deviation is set below 2.7 × 10–4 by the present experiment. These limits are given at a 1 confidence level.  相似文献

The development of storage rings and electromagnetic traps for heavy charged particles is opening up new regimes of atomic physics, including, in particular, spectroscopic studies of Rydberg helium-like ions — with nuclear chargeZ, one electron in the 1s state, and one electron in a near-hydrogenic state of highn andl <n, withn andl the principal and orbital quantum numbers, respectively. We consider the possibility of detecting energy shifts due to retardation, ΔE ret (n,l), Casimir-like effects. These are quantum electrodynamic (QED) retardation effects associated with the finite speed of light. (As opposed to basically kinematic and dynamic QED effects for small quantum numbersn andl, the appropriate expansion parameter forn andl large for retardation QED corrections is notZ(e 2/?c) but [(Z ? 1)/n 2 Z 2](?c/e 2).) We wish to provide some orientation to those planning experiments in the area, with regard to the choices ofn,l, andZ most likely to be able to generate a high-precision confirmation of a retarded interaction. To do so, we provide extensive tables of estimates, for 1s,nl states, of ΔE ret(n,l), of radiative widths, and ofE, the spin-independent (“electric” fine structure) energy in the absence of retardation shifts, for (nuclear spin zero) ions withZ=2, 6, 8, 16 and 20. These ions might be experimentally accessible in storage rings, and theZ's are low enough that virtual pair production effects may not yet be significant. The element specific electron configuration of ions directly reflects the two quantum mechanical observables 〈r2〉 and rmax, which denote the r2 expectation value of the electron density and the principle maximum of the wave function of the outermost electron orbital, respectively. Thus, the determination of these observables may present a new access to element identification of single superheavy nuclides. In this paper, we discuss how these observables are related to ionic radii deduced from ion-mobility data using the most simple hard sphere model and semi-empirical (n,6,4) model potentials for the interaction of heavy ions with noble gases. A concept for a high resolution ion-mobility spectrometer is presented. Optimum extraction efficiency of the ions will be achieved by decoupling the ion motion from the electric field drift by the friction force of the suitably shaped gas flow at the exit nozzle.  相似文献
