Controlling the nonlinear chemical signal in a coupled system by delay

The effect of delay on nonlinear chemical signal in a coupled limit cycle system is investigated. Simulation results reveal that the inherent oscillatory signal can be significantly controlled by the delay in the coupled inter-system communication. Besides, under the influence of noise, the signal-to-noise ratio and signal frequency can also be prominently adjusted by the delay.

Improved Faddeev-Jackiw quantization of the electromagnetic field and Lagrange multiplier fields

We use the improved Faddeev-Jackiw quantization method to quantize the electromagnetic field and its Lagrange multiplier fields. The method's comparison with the usual Faddeev-Jackiw method and the Dirac method is given. We show that this method is equivalent to the Dirac method and also retains all the merits of the usual Faddeev-Jackiw method. Moreover, it is simpler than the usual one if one needs to obtain new secondary constraints. Therefore, the improved Faddeev-Jackiw method is essential. Meanwhile, we find the new meaning of the Lagrange multipliers and explain the Faddeev-Jackiw generalized brackets concerning the Lagrange multipliers.     

Yang's model as triply special relativity and the Snyder's model–de Sitter special relativity duality

We show that if Yang's quantized space–time model is completed at both classical and quantum level, it should contain both Snyder's model, the de Sitter special relativity and their duality.     

Extensible router for a quantum key distribution network

Building a quantum key distribution network is crucial for practical quantum cryptography. We present a scheme to build a star topology quantum key distribution network based on wavelength division multiplexing which, with current technology, can connect at least a hundred users. With the scheme, a 4-user demonstration network was built up and key exchanges were performed.     

Synthesis and characterization of nanostructured bimetallic films on α-Al2O3 substrates using electroless deposition

The Pt-Pd and Pd-Ag nanostructured bimetallic films on porous α-Al₂O₃ substrates are successfully synthesized by chemical deposition using lyotropic liquid crystalline templating strategy. The co-reduction of two metallic species in the presence of liquid crystalline phase by hydrazine hydrate produces hexagonal nanostructured Pt-Pd and lamellar nanostructured Pd-Ag films. Low-angle X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) studies show the ordered nanostructure of both Pt-Pd and Pd-Ag films. The energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) and wide-angle XRD analyses of the bimetallic films have verified the coexistence and uniform distribution of constituent metallic species. By taking into account of catalytic activities, well-defined nanochannels and higher surface areas, the nanostructured bimetallic films might have application potential in microreactors.     

Signal Level Simulation Modeling for Antenna Array of Aperture Synthesis Radiometer Based on the Equivalent Complex Baseband Representations

This paper presents a signal-level simulation model for simulating the process that antenna array of Aperture Synthesis Radiometer (ASR) collecting thermal radiation and transforming thermal radiation signal into radio frequency (RF) signal. By using the equivalent complex baseband signals to represent the practical thermal radiation and RF signals, simulation efficiency is improved significantly. The statistic characteristics of simulation results are found to match the corresponding theoretical analysis well. Results of an imaging simulation experiment show that this model can be employed in ASR system-level simulator design.     

A High-Power Reflector Impulse Antenna with Dual-Tem Source

There are different demands on radiation efficiency and direction pattern according to various ultra-wideband (UWB) antennas and high power applications. To obtain more radiating gain on bore-sight of paraboloidal reflector and centralized radiating direction, a novel feeding structure called dual-TEM source has been designed and applied in half-paraboloidal reflector impulse radiating antenna (IRA) applications. Simulation results proved that this proposed half-paraboloidal reflector IRA with dual-TEM source provided greater radiation performance on bore-sight as a result of the synthesized power in the aperture space of paraboloid. Moreover, lots of simulation work and comparison have been done in different feeding models to summarize a relative optimal feeding structure.     

Statistical Inference for the Location and Scale Parameters of the Skew Normal Distribution

In this paper, we consider the problem of estimating the location and scale parameters of the skew normal distribution introduced by Azzalini. For this distribution, the classic maximum likelihood estimators(MLEs) do not take explicit forms. We approximate the likelihood equations and derive explicit estimators of the parameters. The bias and variance of the estimators are investigated and Monte Carlo simulation studies show that the estimators are as efficient as the classic MLEs. We demonstrate that the probability coverages of the pivotal quantities (for location and scale parameters) based on asymptotic normality are unsatisfactory, especially when the sample size is small. The use of unconditional simulated percentage points of these quantities is suggested. Finally, a numerical example is used to illustrate the proposed inference methods.
