When listeners hear a target signal in the presence of competing sounds, they are quite good at extracting information at instances when the local signal-to-noise ratio of the target is most favorable. Previous research suggests that listeners can easily understand a periodically interrupted target when it is interleaved with noise. It is not clear if this ability extends to the case where an interrupted target is alternated with a speech masker rather than noise. This study examined speech intelligibility in the presence of noise or speech maskers, which were either continuous or interrupted at one of six rates between 4 and 128 Hz. Results indicated that with noise maskers, listeners performed significantly better with interrupted, rather than continuous maskers. With speech maskers, however, performance was better in continuous, rather than interrupted masker conditions. Presumably the listeners used continuity as a cue to distinguish the continuous masker from the interrupted target. Intelligibility in the interrupted masker condition was improved by introducing a pitch difference between the target and speech masker. These results highlight the role that target-masker differences in continuity and pitch play in the segregation of competing speech signals.  相似文献

We report measurements of the full intrinsic optical anisotropy of isolated single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs). By combining absorption spectroscopy with transmission ellipsometry and polarization-dependent resonant Raman scattering, we obtain the real and imaginary parts of the SWNT permittivity from aligned semiconducting SWNTs dispersed in stretched polymer films. Our results are in agreement with theoretical predictions, highlighting the limited polarizability of excitons in a quasi-1D system.  相似文献

Macromolecular interactions were demonstrated to yield large chiroptical effects in second harmonic generation measurements of ultrathin surface films. Second harmonic generation (SHG) has recently shown to be several orders of magnitude more sensitive to chirality in oriented systems than common linear methods, including absorbance circular dichroism (CD) and optical rotary dispersion (ORD). Numerous mechanisms have been developed to explain this anomalous sensitivity, with a general emphasis on understanding the molecular origins of the chromophore chirality. In this work, orientational effects alone are shown to be the dominant factor for generating large SHG chiral dichroic ratios in many surface systems. Three distinct uniaxial surface films of SHG-active achiral chromophores oriented at chiral templated surfaces were observed to yield chiral dichroic ratios as great as 40% in magnitude.  相似文献

In this paper we present the development of a DNA analysis system using a microfabricated channel device and a novel transmission imaging spectrograph which can be efficiently incorporated into a high throughput genomics facility for both sizing and sequencing of DNA fragments. The device contains 48 channels etched on a glass substrate. The channels are sealed with a flat glass plate which also provides a series of apertures for sample loading and contact with buffer reservoirs. Samples can be easily loaded in volumes up to 640 nL without band broadening because of an efficient electrokinetic stacking at the electrophoresis channel entrance. The system uses a dual laser excitation source and a highly sensitive charge-coupled device (CCD) detector allowing for simultaneous detection of many fluorescent dyes. The sieving matrices for the separation of single-stranded DNA fragments are polymerized in situ in denaturing buffer systems. Examples of separation of single-stranded DNA fragments up to 500 bases in length are shown, including accurate sizing of GeneCalling fragments, and sequencing samples prepared with a reduced amount of dye terminators. An increase in sample throughput has been achieved by color multiplexing.  相似文献

Chromium(III) can be determined in aqueous solution at pH 1.5– 2.5 by electron spin resonance techniques. The analytical range is 2.0 x 10-1–2.0 x 10-6 mol dm-3 ; the precision is± 0.3%. The effects of instrumental variables are discussed. Few commonly occurring species up to a concentration of 1.0 x 10-1 mol dm-3 interfered with the determination. The characteristic g value of 1.98 for chromium(III) suggests that the method may also be used to identify chromium(III).  相似文献

Grey mullet (Mugil cephalus) lipase was isolated using para-aminobenzamidine agarose and immobilized on octyl Sepharose CL-4B (o-Sep). Immobilized grey mullet lipase (GMLi) had a 10?°C higher optimum temperature compared to the free enzyme and showed remarkable thermal stability. GMLi was most active within the pH range of 8.0?C9.5 with an optimum at 8.5. Immobilization also enhanced the storage stability and reusability of the enzyme with minimal changes in efficiency during repeated batches. GMLi showed variable stabilities in various organic solvents. A signal in the amide I absorption region of the FTIR spectrum of GMLi was attributed to the protein layer on o-Sep. The surface morphology of o-Sep was visualized on a Zeiss stereomicroscope as globular-shaped beads.  相似文献

The accuracy of a method of simulating reduced frequency selectivity by the spectral smearing of complex stimuli has been evaluated. First an excitation pattern that would be evoked by a given nonsmeared stimulus in an impaired ear with broad auditory filters was estimated. Then the spectral smearing of the stimulus that would be necessary to create the same excitation pattern in a normal ear was calculated. The smearing was based on the shapes of simulated broad auditory filters; both symmetric and asymmetric broad filters were simulated. The method was used to process notched noise, and tones in notched noise, and the processed stimuli were used in a series of experiments with normally hearing subjects measuring the threshold for the tone in notched noise. The resulting data were used to derive auditory filter shapes. The derived filter shapes were generally similar to the expected shapes (based on the type of spectral smearing used), but there were some systematic discrepancies and some individual differences. The discrepancies do not seem to be due to the use of information derived from phase locking, since they were observed both at 1 kHz (where phase locking occurs) and at 6 kHz (where phase locking probably does not occurs). The discrepancies also do not seem to be due to the transmission characteristics of the outer/middle ear, since they occurred both when these characteristics were taken into account in the fitting procedure, and when the stimuli were preshaped to compensate for these characteristics. The influence of the subjects' own auditory filters probably can explain some of the discrepancies; the excitation pattern evoked by the spectrally smeared stimuli can be significantly influenced by the subjects' own filters when those filters are not much sharper than the simulated filters used to produce the smeared stimuli. Finally, some of the discrepancies can probably be explained by subjects combining information across auditory filters, rather than just using the single 'best' filter in each condition; this represents a limitation of the fitting procedure rather than of the simulation itself. Overall, the simulation worked reasonably well, especially when the smearing was based on symmetric filters.  相似文献

This paper provides a unifying axiomatic account of the interpretation of recursive types that incorporates both domain-theoretic and realizability models as concrete instances. Our approach is to view such models as full subcategories of categorical models of intuitionistic set theory. It is shown that the existence of solutions to recursive domain equations depends upon the strength of the set theory. We observe that the internal set theory of an elementary topos is not strong enough to guarantee their existence. In contrast, as our first main result, we establish that solutions to recursive domain equations do exist when the category of sets is a model of full intuitionistic Zermelo–Fraenkel set theory. We then apply this result to obtain a denotational interpretation of FPC, a recursively typed lambda-calculus with call-by-value operational semantics. By exploiting the intuitionistic logic of the ambient model of intuitionistic set theory, we analyse the relationship between operational and denotational semantics. We first prove an “internal” computational adequacy theorem: the model always believes that the operational and denotational notions of termination agree. This allows us to identify, as our second main result, a necessary and sufficient condition for genuine “external” computational adequacy to hold, i.e. for the operational and denotational notions of termination to coincide in the real world. The condition is formulated as a simple property of the internal logic, related to the logical notion of 1-consistency. We provide useful sufficient conditions for establishing that the logical property holds in practice. Finally, we outline how the methods of the paper may be applied to concrete models of FPC. In doing so, we obtain computational adequacy results for an extensive range of realizability and domain-theoretic models.  相似文献

Reactions of a 16.8 MeV 6He beam with a 9Be target have been investigated using highly segmented detector setup covering a large solid angle. Data on elastic and quasi-free scattering, as well as two-neutron transfer, are reported. The results for elastic scattering are fairly well reproduced by a CDCC calculation, in agreement with the interpretation of a breakup effect already observed for the scattering of 6He on other light targets. Exotic quasi-free scattering of 6He on $ \alpha$ -cluster in 9Be is clearly observed. Inclusive and coincident events were used to extract information on the two-neutron transfer reaction 9Be(6He, $ \alpha$ )11Be . Sequential decay of the 11Be state at the excitation energy $\ensuremath E_x = 10.6$ MeV through different channels is discussed.  相似文献
