We present here the final results of experiments searching for neutrino oscillations, carried out by the CHARM Collaboration. The data — taking took place in 1983. The first experiment was performed by exposing two detectors simultaneously to the CERN PS low energyv µ beam. In the second experiment the full CHARM detector was exposed to the wide-band horn-focusedv µ beam of the CERN SPS. Complete details of the experiments and data reduction are presented. No statistically significant signals for neutrino oscillations were observed. Our 90% CL limits in the appearance experiment (v µ→v e ) exclude Δm 2≧0.19 eV2 for complete mixing (sin22θ=1), and sin22θ≧0.008 for the region Δm 2≧30 eV2. These results, and the limits observed for (v µ→v x ) (disappearance of (v µ), are in agreement with those of most other experiments but exclude part of the region previously reported as a possible indication ofv µ→v e oscillations. 相似文献

Target remnants withZ<3 from proton-nucleus and16O-nucleus reactions at 60 and 200 GeV/nucleon were measured in the angular range from 30° to 160° (?1.7<η<1.3) employing the Plastic Ball detector. The excitation energy of the target spectator matter in central oxygen-induced collisions is found to be high enough to allow for complete disintegration of the target nucleus into fragments withZ<3. The average longitudinal momentum transfer per proton to the target in central collisions is considerably higher in the case of16O-induced reactions (≈300 MeV/c) than in proton-induced reactions (≈130 MeV/c). The baryon rapidity distributions are roughly in agreement with one-fluid hydrodynamical calculations at 60 GeV/nucleon16O+Au but are in disagreement at 200 GeV/nucleon, indicating the higher degree of transparency at the higher bombarding energy. Both, the transverse momenta of target spectators and the entropy produced in the target fragmentation region are compared to those attained in head-on collisions of two heavy nuclei at Bevalac energies. They are found to be comparable or do even exceed the values for the participant matter at beam energies of about 1–2 GeV/nucleon. 相似文献

The DELPHI experiment at the LEP e + e- collider collected almost 700 pb-1 at centre-of-mass energies above the Z0 mass pole and up to 208 GeV. Those data were used to search for SUSY in the Anomaly Mediated SUSY Breaking (AMSB) scenario with a flavour independent common sfermion mass parameter. The searches covered several possible signatures experimentally accessible at LEP, with either the neutralino, the sneutrino or the stau being the Lightest Supersymmetric Particle (LSP). They included: the search for nearly mass-degenerate chargino and neutralino, which is a typical feature of AMSB; the search for Standard-Model-like or invisibly decaying Higgs boson; the search for stable staus; the search for cascade decays of SUSY particles resulting in the LSP and a low multiplicity final state containing neutrinos. The like-sign dimuons copiously recorded in the NA 38 experiment both inp-U and O?U reactions at 200 GeV/nucleon are interpreted as resulting from decays of π andK mesons in comparable proportions. The ++/?? ratio is large (?1.7) and ascribed to theK + being more copiously produced than theK ?. A search for the decays γ→ρπ, γ→J/ψX and γ→γa (whereX is undetermined and a is an axion) has been completed using the LENA detector at the DORIS storage ring. Charged particle multiplicity distributions and pseudo-rapidity density distributions from16O induced nuclear collisions at 200 and 60A GeV are presented. The data were taken, using a minimumbias trigger, with the WA80 set-up at the CERN SPS. In this presentation we focus on how the yield of charged particles depends on the projectile energy, the mass number of the target nucleus and the energy measured in a uranium-plastic sampling calorimeter covering angles close to zero degrees. Experimental data of the GRAAL Collaboration on the total cross sections for photoabsorption on deuterium and carbon targets
at gamma-ray energies in the range between 600 and 1500 MeV are presented. The experiment was performed in a beam of photons
obtained by the method of the Compton backscattering of laser photons at the electron storage ring of the European Synchrotron
Radiation Facility (ESRF, Grenoble, France) by using a wide-aperture detector covering a solid angle close to 4π. The total photoabsorption cross sections were determined by two independent methods: by subtracting the emptytarget background
and by summing partial cross sections for meson photoproduction. The total cross sections for photoabsorption on quasifree
protons and neutrons are shown to agree both in magnitude and in shape within a 5% precision of the measurements. In contrast
to data previously available in the literature, both cross sections show distinctly the F
15(1680) resonance at a photon energy of about 1 GeV. Data obtained in the present experiment for the cross sections for photoabsorption
on a free and a bound nucleon are compared. This comparison reveals a substantial role of two-nucleon correlations in estimating

We present evidence showing how antiprotonic hydrogen, the quasistable antiproton (p)-proton bound system, has been synthesized following the interaction of antiprotons with the molecular ion H2+ in a nested Penning trap environment. From a careful analysis of the spatial distributions of antiproton annihilation events, evidence is presented for antiprotonic hydrogen production with sub-eV kinetic energies in states around n=70, and with low angular momenta. The slow antiprotonic hydrogen may be studied using laser spectroscopic techniques. 相似文献
