Modification of medium phase memory under influence of pulsed inhomogeneous magnetic field

We consider retrieving of a light pulse stored in a medium of atoms with Λ-configuration of levels under conditions of electromagnetically induced transparency when a pulse of the external magnetic field inhomogeneous over the medium length is applied to the medium during the absence of the control field. It is shown that the coherence of lower levels of medium atoms acquires a phase depending on the coordinate along the medium and that the temporal shape of the retrieved pulse, if it is recorded interferometrically, reflects the coordinate dependence of the magnetic field.     

Orientational ordering in polymer composites with nanofillers: the osmotic pressure effect

Phase behavior of short double-stranded DNA molecules dissolved in the water-containing polymer matrix is considered theoretically. Flexible-chain polymer molecules are assumed to be neutral. The phase behavior of DNA fragments is shown to be governed by the effective attraction, occurring due to polyvalent cations dissolved in water, and the osmotic pressure of the flexible-chain polymer.

Heavy-nucleus multifragmentation induced by coherent bremsstrahlung photons with endpoint energy <Emphasis Type="Italic">E</Emphasis><Stack><Subscript>γ</Subscript><Superscript>max</Superscript></Stack>=4.1 GeV

New experimental data are presented that were obtained by studying the multifragmentation of ¹⁹⁷Au, ²⁰⁹Bi, ²³⁸U, and ²⁴³Am nuclei in a coherent bremsstrahlung-photon beam with an endpoint energy of 4.1 GeV from the Erevan Synchrotron. For the first time, four or more fragments are observed. For all the nuclei studied here, the respective production cross sections are about (1–3)×10^?3 of the total inelastic photon-nucleus cross section. The fragment yields are isotropic.     

Pseudoclassical Foldy-Wouthuysen transformation and canonical quantization of (D=2n)-dimensional relativistic particle with spin in an external electromagnetic field

The canonical quantization of a (D=2n)-dimensional Dirac particle with spin in an arbitrary external electromagnetic field is performed in a gauge that makes it possible to describe simultaneously particles and antiparticles (both massive and massiess) already at the classical level. A pseudoclassical Foldy-Wouthuysen transformation is used to find the canonical (Newton-Wigner) coordinates. The connection between this quantization scheme and Blount's picture describing the behavior of a Dirac particle in an external electromagnetic field is discussed.Erevan Physics Institute.
