Electron correlations at the fractional quantum Hall edge

This paper reviews tunnel spectroscopy of fractional quantum Hall edges using cleaved-edge overgrown devices. Beginning with an intuitive introduction to various experimental and theoretical aspects, the device structure is reviewed, and the experimental result of a continuum of power-law tunneling exponents is revisited. The unanticipated behavior of the exponent with fractional filling factor is described, and all subsequent theoretical explanations for these results are laid out for comparison. Finally, we propose new directions for experimentally resolving the remaining questions.     

Heterostructures overgrown on GaAs corner substrates

By choosing suitable crystal facets we are able to epitaxially overgrow a precleaved corner-substrate. We are using GaAs (1 1 0)-like facets and growth conditions such that no accumulation or depletion of deposited material near the corner is observed, avoiding morphological changes at the corner during the growth process. So we achieve high-quality layer growth across the corner. With this technique we demonstrate a new type of quantum confinement structure consisting of a GaAs/AlGaAs heterostructure overgrown on top of this precleaved corner-substrate.     

Unexpected formation of 10-iodo- and 10-chlorocamphor under halosulfonylation conditions,and convenient routes to 10-chloro- and 10-bromocamphor

The generation of camphor-10-sulfonyl iodide in situ under halosulfonylation conditions or exposure of camphor-10-sulfonyl chloride to copper(II) chloride under Asscher–Vofsi conditions leads unexpectedly to the formation of 10-iodocamphor or 10-chlorocamphor, respectively. Additionally, convenient syntheses of 10-bromocamphor and 10-chlorocamphor have been achieved by extension of a previously reported methodology.     

Galois representations on holomorphic differentials

Using the same methods as in [S2] and [S3] we derive the Brauer trees for the cyclic pblocks for G₂(2^k),G₂(3^k) and the noncyclic pblocks for these groups, where p ≠ 2,3. The results are analogous to those obtained for G₂(q), where q is not divisible by 2 or 3. These results were first announced in [Sl].     

A new approach to heterofunctionalized dendrimers: a versatile triallyl chloride core

A reactive triallyl chloride moiety was prepared as a suitable core for aliphatic polyether dendrons. In addition to allowing access to fourth generation dendrimers, this core contains three alkene functionalities that can be modified after dendrimer formation and used for further dendritic growth.     

Exclusive production of heavy mesons in photon-photon collisions: The double scattering mechanism

We present two mechanisms which can compete with constituent interchange in the exclusive production at wide angle of heavy mesons in photon-photon collisions. We show that they have the same energy behaviour as constituent interchange, and that their amplitudes are free from large logarithms. We exploit this to calculate the double-scattering diagrams numerically. We find that while constituent interchange dominates at 90°, double scattering becomes dominant for angles less than about 45°.
