The field of radiation emission from electron beams is reviewed with special reference to work related to free-electron lasers. Different schemes of interaction in periodic structures, electromagnetic slow-wave structures, and in transverse confining force are distinguished. Various effects and devices such as traveling wave amplifiers, Smith-Purcell radiators, Cerenkov and bremsstrahlung-free electron lasers, cyclotron resonance masers, coherent bremsstrahlung and channeling radiation are discussed and the differences and relations among them are explained. A simple comprehensive model is developed to describe electron-beam interaction with an electromagnetic wave in periodic electromagnetic structures. The model is general enough to describe both collective and single-electron modes of interaction and quantum mechanical, classical and Fermi degenerate regimes. Simplified expressions are developed for the gain by stimulated emission of radiation and for gain conditions of the Smith-Purcell-Cerenkov type free-electron lasers under conditions of very thin electron beams and infinite interaction length. We construct a conformally invariant vector bundle connection such that its equation of parallel transport is a first order system that gives a prolongation of the conformal Killing equation on differential forms. Parallel sections of this connection are related bijectively to solutions of the conformal Killing equation. We construct other conformally invariant connections, also giving prolongations of the conformal Killing equation, that bijectively relate solutions of the conformal Killing equation on k-forms to a twisting of the conformal Killing equation on (k?)-forms for various integers ?. These tools are used to develop a helicity raising and lowering construction in the general setting and on conformally Einstein manifolds.  相似文献

A complex matrix A = [aij] has been called conjugate-Toeplitz if aij = ci?1(ai?j), where c( ) denotes conjugation. A necessary and sufficient condition is derived for a matrix H to have a conjugate-Toeplitz inverse. The elements of H are generated from the coefficients of certain polynomials. The result is simplified either when H is to have a Toeplitz inverse, or when H is banded and is to have a conjugate-Toeplitz inverse. Each of these consequences of the main theorem is a different generalization of a previous result on banded matrices having a Toeplitz inverse.  相似文献

On pseudo-Riemannian manifolds of even dimension , with everywhere vanishing (Fefferman-Graham) obstruction tensor, we construct a complex of conformally invariant differential operators. The complex controls the infinitesimal deformations of obstruction-flat structures, and, in the case of Riemannian signature the complex is elliptic.

By a uniform and simple Weyl invariant coupling of scale and matter fields, we construct theories that unify massless, massive, and partially massless excitations. Masses are related to tractor Weyl weights, and Breitenlohner–Freedman stability bounds in anti de Sitter amount to reality of these weights. The method relies on tractor calculus – mathematical machinery allowing Weyl invariance to be kept manifest at all stages. The equivalence between tractor and higher spin systems with arbitrary spins and masses is also considered.  相似文献

Radiative emission from the magnetic moments of the spins of an electron beam has never been observed directly, because it is fundamentally much weaker than the electric charge emission. We show that the detectivity of spin-flip and combined spin-flip-cyclotron-resonance-emission radiation can be substantially enhanced by operating with ultrashort spin-polarized electron beam bunches under conditions of superradiant (coherent) emission. The proposed superradiant spin-flip radiative emission scheme can be used for noninvasive diagnostics of polarized electron or positron beams. Such beams are of relevance in important scattering experiments off nucleons in nuclear physics and off magnetic targets in condensed matter physics.  相似文献
