Λ(1520) → Λγ radiative-decay width

The radiative decay Λ(1520) → Λγ was recorded in the exclusive reaction p + N → Λ(1520)K ⁺ + N at the SPHINX facility. The branching ratio for this decay and the corresponding partial width were found to be, respectively, Br[Λ(1520) → Λγ] = (1.02 ± 0.21) × 10^?2 and Γ[Λ(1520) → Λγ] = 159 ± 35 keV (the quoted errors are purely statistical, the systematic errors being within 15%).     

Compton-effect on π−-meson

The reaction π^? A→Aπ^? γ at 40 GeV/c was studied on “Sigma” spectrometer on six different nuclear targets in the region of four-momentum transfer |t|<0.05 (GeV/c)². A phenomenon of elastic scattering of pions on the nuclear Coulomb field photons was observed, its total and differential cross sections were measured. The cross section of Compton effect on π^?-meson was measured.     

Electrophysical properties of MIS structures with nanodimensional β-cyclodextrin Langmuir-Blodgett films

Mixed cyclodextrin-phenanthrene monolayers at the water-air interface are studied. The formation conditions for Langmuir-Blodgett films on single-crystalline substrates are found. Aluminum/Langmuir-Blodgett film/single-crystal n-Si structures are obtained, and their properties are investigated by taking current-voltage and lux-ampere characteristics. The deposition conditions of the Langmuir-Blodgett film and its thickness are shown to influence the electrophysical and photoelectric properties of the heterostructures.     

Immobilization of carborane derivatives on Ni/Fe nanotubes for BNCT

The most important limitation for boron neutron capture therapy of cancer is the selective accumulation of boron compounds in tumor tissues in significant quantities. In this paper, we describe the possibility to use magnetic Ni/Fe nanotubes as carriers for boron delivery. Carborane derivatives containing 10 and 21 boron atoms per molecule were immobilized on Ni/Fe nanotubes by covalent and ionic interactions. Magnetic properties of NTs were investigated by Mössbauer spectroscopy. Structure, element, chemical composition, and morphology of obtained magnetic nanotubes were studied by XRD, SEM-EDA, and FTIR spectroscopy. Results indicate success immobilization of carborane derivatives on Ni/Fe nanotubes and great potential to use them as carriers for boron neutron cancer therapy of cancer.

Searches for rare and forbidden neutral decays of η mesons at the GAMS-4π facility

Searches for rare and forbidden neutral decays of η mesons are performed at the GAMS-4π facility. A charge-exchange reaction at an initial momentum of 32.5 GeV/c was used as a source of 3.7 × 10⁶ η mesons. The following upper limits are established at a 90% confidence level: Br(η → 3γ) < 1.6 × 10^?4, Br(η → 4γ) < 2.8 × 10^?4, Br(η → π⁰π⁰) < 3.5 × 10^?4, Br(η → π⁰π⁰γ) < 1.7 × 10^?3, Br(η → π⁰π⁰γγ) < 4.0 × 10^?3, Br(η → 3π⁰γ) < 2.4 × 10^?4, and Br(η → 4π⁰) < 2.0 × 10^?5.

q-Distributions on boxed plane partitions

We introduce elliptic weights of boxed plane partitions and prove that they give rise to a generalization of MacMahon’s product formula for the number of plane partitions in a box. We then focus on the most general positive degenerations of these weights that are related to orthogonal polynomials; they form three 2-D families. For distributions from these families, we prove two types of results. First, we construct explicit Markov chains that preserve these distributions. In particular, this leads to a relatively simple exact sampling algorithm. Second, we consider a limit when all dimensions of the box grow and plane partitions become large and prove that the local correlations converge to those of ergodic translation invariant Gibbs measures. For fixed proportions of the box, the slopes of the limiting Gibbs measures (that can also be viewed as slopes of tangent planes to the hypothetical limit shape) are encoded by a single quadratic polynomial.     

The A-dependence of J/ψ-particle inclusive distributions

The differential cross sections $\text{d}\text{σ}\text{d}\text{x}$ and $\text{d}\text{σ}\text{d}\text{p}{}_{\mathrm{t}}{}^2$ of inclusive J/ψ production by 43 GeV/c π^? off Be, Cu and W nuclei have been measured. Fitting $\text{d}\text{σ}\text{d}\text{p}{}_{\mathrm{t}}{}^2\text{～ A}{}^{\mathrm{\alpha }}\text{(p}{}_{\mathrm{t}}{}^2\text{)}$ we observed the increase of α with p_t².     

Combination of gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and mass spectral deconvolution for structural elucidation of an unusual C29-steroid detected in a complex sedimentary matrix

A complex sedimentary sample from the Monterey Formation (CA, USA) has been submitted to GC-MS analysis followed by mass spectral deconvolution using Automated Mass Spectral Deconvolution and Identification System (AMDIS). Adjusting the parameters of the software allowed for the extraction of the spectrum of an unusual steroidal hydrocarbon coeluting with the major compound of the chromatogram. Following a careful interpretation of the "extracted" mass spectrum, the structure of the unknown has been postulated to be the 4,14-dimethylcholestane (DMC). Possible origins of this rare steroid are briefly discussed. Thus, application of AMDIS appears to be particularly suitable for the GC-MS analysis of natural complex mixtures characterized by a high number of analytes present in low amounts.
