Iron catalyzed CN bond formation

Diversely functionalized nitrogen-containing heteroaromatic building blocks, fine chemicals and active pharmaceutical or agrochemical ingredients are conveniently prepared via CN bond formation as the key step. Since beginning of the last decade, there has been a flurry of intense research in forging CN bonds using iron catalysts due to their low cost, high natural abundance and non-toxic nature. The present review offers an overview of CN bond forming reactions involving aryl, allyl, propargyl and unactivated alkyl electrophilic substrates with nitrogen nucleophiles via the regular cross coupling reactions catalyzed by iron. In the miscellaneous section, a set of novel transformations facilitated by iron are included as well.     

Lewis acid-mediated unprecedented ring-opening rearrangement of 2-aryl-N-tosylazetidines to enantiopure (E)-allylamines

A highly efficient strategy for Cu(OTf)2-mediated ring-opening of 2-aryl-N-tosylazetidines in polar and coordinating solvents followed by an unprecedented rearrangement to substituted achiral and chiral (E)-allylamines (ee >99%) is reported. The methodology has been applied for the synthesis of gamma-unsaturated-beta-amino acids. A plausible mechanism for the rearrangement is also described.     

Synthetic route to chiral tetrahydroquinoxalines via ring-opening of activated aziridines

A highly regio- and stereoselective route for the synthesis of racemic and nonracemic tetrahydroquinoxalines via the S(N)2-type ring-opening of activated aziridines with 2-bromoanilines followed by the Pd-catalyzed intramolecular C-N bond formation is described.     

TPGS-750-M: a second-generation amphiphile for metal-catalyzed cross-couplings in water at room temperature

An environmentally benign surfactant (TPGS-750-M), a diester composed of racemic α-tocopherol, MPEG-750, and succinic acid, has been designed and readily prepared as an effective nanomicelle-forming species for general use in metal-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions in water. Several "name" reactions, including Heck, Suzuki-Miyaura, Sonogashira, and Negishi-like couplings, have been studied using this technology, as have aminations, C-H activations, and olefin metathesis reactions. Physical data in the form of DLS and cryo-TEM measurements suggest that particle size and shape are key elements in achieving high levels of conversion and, hence, good isolated yields of products. This new amphiphile will soon be commercially available.     

Spectroscopic evidence of keto-enol tautomerism in deliquesced malonic acid particles

Scanning transmission X-ray microscopy combined with near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy (STXM/NEXAFS) and optical microscopy coupled with Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (micro-FTIR) have been applied to observe hygroscopic growth and chemical changes in malonic acid particles deposited on substrates. The extent of the hygroscopic growth of particles has been quantified in terms of the corresponding water-to-solute ratios (WSR) based on STXM/NEXAFS and micro-FTIR data sets. WSR values derived separately from two applied methods displayed a remarkable agreement with previous data reported in the literature. Comparison of NEXAFS and FTIR spectra acquired at different relative humidity (RH) shows efficient keto-enol tautomerization of malonic acid, with the enol form dominating at higher RH. The keto-enol equilibrium constants were calculated using relevant peak intensities in the carbon and oxygen K-edge NEXAFS spectra as a function of RH. We report strong dependence of the equilibrium constant on RH, with measured values of 0.18 ± 0.03, 1.11 ± 0.14, and 2.33 ± 0.37 corresponding to 2, 50, and 90% RH, respectively. Enols are important intermediates in aldol condensation reactions pertaining to formation and atmospheric aging of secondary organic aerosol (SOA). The present knowledge assumes that constituents of atmospheric deliquesced particles undergo aqueous chemistry with kinetic and equilibrium constants analogous to reactions in bulk solutions, which would estimate absolute dominance of the keto form of carboxylic acids. For instance, the keto-enol equilibrium constant of malonic acid in diluted aqueous solution is <10(-4). Our results suggest that in deliquesced micrometer-size particles, carboxylic acids may exist in predominantly enol forms that need to be explicitly considered in atmospheric aerosol chemistry.     

Synthesis and photophysical properties of tetraphenylethylene-based conjugated dendrimers with triphenylamine core

Two new conjugated dendrimers bearing a tetraphenylethylene moiety as dendrons and triphenylamine as a core have been synthesized through a convergent synthetic strategy using threefold Heck/threefold Sonogashira coupling reaction. These dendrimers showed excellent solubility in common organic solvents and emit light in the blue and violet regions.     

Synthesis of isoquinolines through the coupling of Fischer carbene complexes with o-alkynylpyridine carbonyl derivatives

The reaction of Fischer carbene complex with o-alkynylpyridine carbonyl derivatives has been investigated. This involves the generation of furo[3,4-c]pyridine as transient intermediates through the coupling of o-alkynylpyridine carbonyl derivatives with carbene complex and subsequent Diels–Alder trapping with suitable dienophiles resulted in the formation of isoquinoline derivatives and the entire sequence can be run in one pot. When an olefinic tether was present, intramolecular Diels–Alder cycloaddition occurred followed by ring opening to yield tricyclic alcohols.     

Stabilization of Classical [B2H5]−: Structure and Bonding of [(Cp*Ta)2(B2H5)(μ‐H)L2] (Cp*=η5‐C5Me5; L=SCH2S)

The room‐temperature reaction of [Cp*TaCl₄] with LiBH₄?THF followed by addition of S₂CPPh₃ results in pentahydridodiborate species [(Cp*Ta)₂(μ,η²:η²‐B₂H₅)(μ‐H)(κ²,μ‐S₂CH₂)₂] ( 1 ), a classical [B₂H₅]^? ion stabilized by the binuclear tantalum template. Theoretical studies and bonding analysis established that the unusual stability of [B₂H₅]^? in 1 is mainly due to the stabilization of sp²‐B center by electron donation from tantalum. Reactions to replace the hydrogens attached to the diborane moiety in 1 with a 2 e {M(CO)₄} fragment (M=Mo or W) resulted in simple adducts, [{(Cp*Ta)(CH₂S₂)}₂(B₂H₅)(H){M(CO)₃}] ( 6 : M=Mo and 7 : M=W), that retained the diborane(5) unit.     

Noncommutative effects of charged black hole on holographic superconductors

In this paper, we analytically investigate the noncommutative effects of a charged black hole on holographic superconductors in the probe limit. The effects of charge of the black hole is investigated in our study. Employing the Sturm–Liouville eigenvalue method, the relation between the critical temperature and charge density is analytically investigated. The condensation operator is then computed. It is observed that condensate gets harder to form for large values of charge of the black hole.     

A New Group Decision-Making Technique under Picture Fuzzy Soft Expert Information

As an extension of intuitionistic fuzzy sets, the theory of picture fuzzy sets not only deals with the degrees of rejection and acceptance but also considers the degree of refusal during a decision-making process; therefore, by incorporating this competency of picture fuzzy sets, the goal of this study is to propose a novel hybrid model called picture fuzzy soft expert sets by combining picture fuzzy sets with soft expert sets for dealing with uncertainties in different real-world group decision-making problems. The proposed hybrid model is a more generalized form of intuitionistic fuzzy soft expert sets. Some novel desirable properties of the proposed model, namely, subset, equality, complement, union and intersection, are investigated together with their corresponding examples. Two well-known operations AND and OR are also studied for the developed model. Further, a decision-making method supporting by an algorithmic format under the proposed approach is presented. Moreover, an illustrative application is provided for its better demonstration, which is subjected to the selection of a suitable company of virtual reality devices. Finally, a comparison of the initiated method is explored with some existing models, including intuitionistic fuzzy soft expert sets.
